I'd like to see the Nebula being able to use the Venture-Type skin. That would basically be the 25th century Nebula
I don't think it would make sense for the Sovereign to get a "little sister" as the Miranda and Nebula were derivates of the heaviest ship to date. If any, a new Nebula should be assembled from the Odyssey in that regard.
The Miranda is hardly a "derivative", of any modern ship, as the Miranda pre-dates the new ships. More accurately, certain newer ships would be derivative of the Miranda.

My apologies, I'm not a native speaker which means that I sometimes fail to spell out what I meant correctly.
"as the Miranda and Nebula were derivates of the heaviest ship of their date/time." should fit better. The Miranda was a derivative (again, my apologies. Same reason. It's "Derivat" for me) of the Constitution Class, Starfleet's heaviest ship of that period (the Excelsior's prototype wasn't ready, yet). The Nebula derived from the Galaxy Class, at least from a out-of-universe perspective since they used parts of a Galaxy at first, although that close bond acctually wasn't intented (they wanted the two ships only to share the same aesthetic design but not actual parts like the saucer). But canon is what makes it on the screen
That's why I think a "new" Nebula should be made of Oddyssey parts. The Chevron, a small secondary hull and nacelles. It would fit it's role as the Galaxy's successor.

The quote says derivative of the heaviest ship to date. It can easily be taken as read that "to date" is meant to be the times of their construction. The heaviest ship to date in when the Miranda was constructed was the Constitution, so it looked quite like a constitution sans engineering hull and its parts rearranged. The heaviest ship at the time the Nebula was introduced was the Galaxy class, so it looks quite like a galaxy sans neck but with its parts rearranged.
Pedantics aside, a Sovereign styled variant (like the pictures posted previously) or an Odyssey styled variant would be very cool. (Especially if the Odyssey variant could keep its Aquarius destroyer).
Sadly, the Sovereign variant would be unlikely to be used as it was put together by Legacy users. Even though it uses no new designs, only rearranging of ship parts and an addition of a Nebula style sensor/weapons pod.
Personally, while I hope that they do use these ideas, I really would rather they not be science ships. I'd rather just go into the ship appearance editor in game and select an option that rearranges the Sovvy's parts.

Well, when he said "to date", I took it, as "to date", meaning now, not when it was designed.
And for the poster above the quoted post, ok, that time your thought came clear.

@capnshadow27: Ugh It is a matter of taste and nobody can judge that, but the... thing just looks hideous It's a Defiant, enarged, the bridge module cut off and for some reason an Intrepids saucer frankensteind between them. I don't see the beauty of it
The Oberth-ed Excelsior isn't one of my favourite designs, but I can kinda see it work. I mean the TMP-era Oberth class has to be upgraded at one point, if not purely of age. As the Excelsiors slowly got phased out after mostly doing transportation duty I can see some getting a refit like this.

It looks like either a Defiant rear ended an Intrepid while they were too close to the sun... Or a Defiant and an Intrepid had a secret incestuous affair that resulted in a deformed love child.

when i was playing legacy i put quite a few player made ships into it, one of my favorites looked like a nebula counterpart, the Kelvin class was the name that the creator came out with
there is not much difference between the sovereign and the Kelvin, but i still liked it, and i always thought it was the next logical step in the neb's evolution.
Really cool looking although I'd imagine that a STO take would work in a second deflector.
I would love to see something similar to Starfleet Command's Akula Class, or its refit. They're kind of similar to the Kelvin, which is a cool ship, but the Kelvin seems kind of unbalanced to me with the big secondary hull on top.
Part of why I suggest doing it with the Intrepid is because I haven't seen people bash that one as much aside from the Yeager class which we've been told probably will never come to STO. So Cryptic would have fewer conflicts on rights with other games.
Quick and dirty with MSpaint, here is a concept that I tossed together last night. Side view is atrocious even by my own standards. It's just an idea.
One thing I played with (scanner isn't hooked up at the moment) is the primary section placement being based on where the bridge is on the Defiant. So you end up with a double decker feel.
Then maybe extend the nacelles down some for safety reasons.
But there are aspects I like. I feel like the saucer would almost benefit from being less contoured and the deflector needs to be shifted down to the primary hull. No extra nacelles.
I would like to see a science vessel that takes this the next step forward by using a Sovereign style saucer and nacelles with struts and hull that take cues from the Sovereign. There have been fan designs to do this but there's enough leeway in how the artists do this that Cryptic could do their own.
Interesting idea. I'd like to see a Venture-skinned Nebula over this, but why not have both?
I personally don't care for single-nacelle designs (or any odd-numbered nacelles - I prefer they come in pairs), but I wouldn't ragequit if they put one in-game.
What if you took the design sensibilities of the Defiant and amped those up until you had a large cruiser with Defiant inspired contours and shapes? Maybe the bridge on top becomes a full saucer, the angles get more streamlined, the nacelles get to get pushed out to the side more on struts. More escape pods along the hull.
I think in some ways, the Avenger fits this bill. It doesn't exactly take contours or shapes from the Defiant, but to me it has a similar "vibe." Ugly and mean-looking (I mean that as a compliment to both ships).
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
