Would it be possible to have an option where engaging a torpedo tactical ability temporarily suspends auto-firing of torpedoes and waits for the user to manually trigger a launch?
Basically, I have 2 torpedo tubes. One I want firing every moment it can and the other I want to only fire on High Yield mode. Currently it's clumsy to achieve that because firing priority is not well defined in the game plus you'd have to watch your weapon display like a hawk to slip in the tactical ability at the right moment.
When you have the auto-fire option turned on in the option menu, you right click on the weapons in the weapon panel to set them to Auto-Fire. When they have a green border around the weapon icon, it means Auto-Fire is on. If you don't want it to fire, just right-click again to remove the green border and to turn off Auto-Fire.
So all you have to do is right-click on all weapons but your torpedoes. Then set the hotkey you want to fire only torpedoes, and presto.
What I think the OP wants is to be able to leave autofire on, but have an "interrupt" to the autofire mode kick in whenever High Yield is selected, so that the player won't have to manually deselect autofire mode before every use of High Yield and then manually re-activate it afterward.
No, the way I read it, is he has 2 torp launchers. One, he's fine with auto firing. It's the second he wants to be "launch on demand" only. However, not sure that would work well, with HYx, as it would just end up being used on the first torp to launch, so I think he'd end up needing to exclude both from autofiring, unless one's stern, and one's fore.

Exactly. I want to leave my torpedo on auto fire normally, but have auto firing temporarily suspended when I trigger a torpedo tactical ability so that I can choose which tube to apply the ability to.
I guess one way that this could be done is to give firing definitions that we can put on our tray. So in other words in addition to have "Photon torpedo" which fires a specific weapon, and "High Yield" which applies to the next torpedo fired, we would also have a "High Yield: Photon torpedo" ability that ties an ability directly and literally to a specific launcher. So when you press that ability, there is no way for other launchers to grab the ability.
