Hello,
Been playing sto for a few years now and i have been watching how the sto wikipages always say on upcoming content:
Poker (dependent on developer free-time; very unlikely in short term as of July 2012.
I think now if ever would be the time to find the time to do it. This game could really use such fun "social boosting activity". Ever since reputation was introduced i have seen that peope on fleets start to do missions alone (on pugs)- and this has totally killed many fleets chat and team play on fleet. MMO shouldnt be about single player mode, But ofc if a player chooses to do it, fine By me. I could talk much more about this problem but i believe you all know what im talking about without spilling it all out in here now.
So, please add the poker to sto asap, it would be so cool to have a break on all rep,fighting and such stuff on sto. There already is a poker table on your ships messhall. But i was thinking that why not add it to our starbases?
Imagine to see on your fleets event calender "Fleet friday night poker tournament" or as in tng " Officer poker night" (bring beer)
Enough sayed...add it please!

Yes please - a most enthusiastic YES.
I'd love to join my boffs for poker - or better yet convince a few fleeties to meet up on DS9 or our own starbase for a game or two.
Even better yet get an invite from teh Admiral on ESD for a game or two.
And while I'm thinking about it....
Meet up with the heroes and villains of Sar Trek on Veterans only starbase hiden in that sweet pocket Universe in orbit near ESD.
Reality Check Time:
Likely the online gaming IP from CBS does not include the rights to online poker. CBS has already licensed it to a legitimate gambling house.
Maybe after 1001 far more important things are done. For now, I say sticky this to the last spot on the "to do" list.

I agree with you, there are lots of things to be done in sto. I just thought it would be a nice idea to have poker or perhaps some other minigame in sto that would bring fleet mates around the same table.

Yes, it would be fun. But will it happen any time soon? No.
Besides, I'd be more up to play a few games of Tongo at Quark's. Or a PvP Dabo, in which the profits are the total bets made by players.
Poker? Like said before, difficult licensing and not the most important issue to the game.

How many of you would spend dil and/or zen to get a poker minigame added to your ship.
I feel Cryptic is missing out on revenue since many of us would love to do far more customization and additions to our ship interiors. Also, the idea that leaving the interior as something only pretty to look at with little interactive or tangible value is a short sighted attempted to make us go to starbases and "be social".
No one is going to interact more or less with other players just because I have to beam down to a doctor to get healed. I have one on the ship..but he's left as an incompetent shlub who only makes hypos and shrugs at your internal bleeding
The ship was a home to chars on star trek. It should be on sto and I bet there's an unexploited market for cryptic as well in this regard.

Then let's add a game that both was in Star Trek, and isn't found in every casino, online casino, game site, and frat house on the gorram planet.

the reason I pick a social zone such as the captains table over the fleet starbase is I would not wish to restrict gameplay to be between fleet members only.
also to avoid the no gambling rule that has been touted as the reason for the lack of poker it should held with a 24hr cooldown from the start of each game and be for a set number of non value gaming chips at the start of the game with the quantity reset each time you play.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Cryptic does listnen to its players and wants to make sto better. Even if it sometimes doesnt feel that way. I think its hard to judge on what this game needs or doesnt. All we (players) can do is to give ideas to Cryptic and talk about it, the rest is up to them.
Still 0.5% chance of seeing more mini games (pve, pvp) is good. Its just telling that its not totally hopless.

Be a nice reason to visit your crew lounge/mess hall and stimulate the use of ship invites other than "I have this ship/bridge and you don't - haha!". All of the FED lounges seem to have a 'teasing' table by an observation window that would be perfect for it, but nothing set up. The KDF seem to have plenty of room at the mess hall too. I think it would be amazing! - You could bet fleet credits. Maybe have a 10,000 Fleet Credit cap or something to keep it reasonable. As far as gambling restrictions go - you can already bet latinum on Dabo, so I don't see what the big deal would be.
I can see this being a problem for lockbox ships as most of them just have a bridge but meh - I would use those ships for PvP or PvE anyway and happily switch to a more 'social' one to play poker.

Yes, exactly! But what comes to bets, i think there should be plenty options for it, as dilithium, marks, fleet credits, energy credits etc.
And i would like to see different games at different locations.
Perhaps Drozana would have its own special game including dabo.
Quark could use a new game to his bar aswell. Perhaps something holodeck related. (drinking games for Klinks etc) lols
Dilithium mine holdings would have its own mining competition game...who mines the most in given time. :eek:
As i see it, possibilityes are endless.
Then there is the side of me that thinks its pointless because you can play poker anywhere.... so why bother? And yes I know it has been in the shows.
But I will stick with yes for poker, but I don't care if the add it next week....month...year or 3 years from now.
