"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Oh, man, what a question. Oooold school gamer here going back to playing a new invention called Pong at my uncle's wedding when I was about 7 or 8. Then Atari, then arcade mall rat for more than a decade.

Board games: maybe Avalon Hill's Civilization (no relation to Sid Meier's) and Rail Baron (view the very well done computer equivalent made by fans here.)

my old Atari 2600: Activision's Space Shuttle. More simulator than game, the creator found a way to trick the hardware into acting like it had twice the processing power than it really had. (No I don't remember how that was done).

The old-school, vector graphics, coin-op arcades: Battlezone

      Early non-vector graphics arcade: Gyruss

      80s arcade: Dragon's Lair

      Early 90s arcade: X-men

PC: probably Sid Meier's Civilization series, and Freelancer.

X-Wing. This and T.I.E. Fighter were the only decent titles LucasArts ever released.
T.I.E. Fighter. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Galaxy from the Empire's viewpoint.
MechWarrior IV. Including all of the Expansions. First time I ever played online against others.
MechCommander. Great game. Great storyline. Great missions.
MechCommander II. Great game engine. It has an Editor! :D My first foray into UGC.
Command and Conquer. Generals and Zero Hour. Making maps with these never gets old.
SFCI & II, with all of the expansions.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
