Upgrade Older Ships

Hi everyone, my first post on these forums (I think).

I imagine this subject has been brought up before, but I was wondering if the devs had any plans to implement a system whereby I can upgrade older ships so that they're a match for T5 ships?

The system could be initiated in numerous ways; duty officer missions, fleet only duty officer missions when starbases are at a certain tier, a new reputation project, or maybe a Memory Alpha research project. The basic gist would be for a dilithium cost I can add extra hull points, weapon slots, device slots, etc. This way you could refit your ship through playing in game, or if you want to accelerate the process you can buy zen and exchange it. Some things like shield strength should be based more on the shield emitters and warp core you install since it's the warp core providing the power to the advanced (or not) shields and has little to do with the actual hull of the ship.

The reason I'd like to see this system is because the first day I started playing the game I bought the original Constitution class in the C-Store. I used that ship as long as I could before it became impossible to keep playing with it. I think it's strange to say the Constitution couldn't be modified to match T5 ships since the exterior hull of a ship shouldn't have any bearing on the internals. The entire contents of a Defiant class ship could fit inside the saucer of a Constitution so why, in a universe where ships only a few decades older than the one I want to fly are still in common use (Excelsior), can I not fly a Constitution hull with advanced innards?

Since I've paid for this ship, I'd kind of like to use it, and there are plenty of ways to put a system in place that calls for in game effort or zen store purchases.

Anyway, like I said, I'm sure this has been brought up before, so maybe people already know if this is something being considered?

Thanks!

There are several reasons Cryptics devs don'T want us to upgrade older ships.
One of those reasons is that CBS reportedly said "no" to it.
Another reason is that Cryptic couldn't sell us new and more powerful ships all the time. Let's face it most people don't care about the ship they fly, the only thing the look at are the stats. The more powerful the better, even if it looks like a hill of TRIBBLE.

I have suggested myself a system that would work with C-Store tokens but it got almost no reaction here on the forum. To be honest i think for someone wanting to play a Star Trek game STO is the wrong game (i'd be if there where an alternative).

Do not expect this for t4 ships, however it is my understanding that this will be the plan for t6 ships when the level cap is increased. Instead of buying t6 ship they will be crafted from t5 ships as to not make them obsolete.
Note: I do not represent PWE/Cryptic in this matter and all plans are subject to change, I this is merely my understanding from interviews heard in the past. As for the idea of a t5 Connie, that is a horse that has been beaten to death on sto since launch, CBS has said no every time and it will not happen.

Thanks for the replies guys. That's sad to hear about no T5 Connies. I wonder why CBS is so against it.

Ah well, here's hoping something changes in the future.

    Seeya star-side.
