i have the star cruiser you can get for free when you reach lvl 40 and i want to buy the fleet version of it. shouldn't it cost 1 fleet ship module instead of 4 because i have the base version ?

Only if you paid Zen for the original; free or token ships don't count
EG: your Free Star cruiser doesn't count as you acquired it with a token, not Zen.
A ship acquired with a 600-day veteran token doesn't count, even though the ships are otherwise zen-store ships, as you acquired it with a token not zen.
Basically, the discounts only apply to ships where you have laid out a zen outlay on the original, reducing the fleet version to a single module to reflect that you already paid out in zen once

    Extra tip:

Get another ship. Sadly, the Starcruiser sucks.

While I will not claim it's the best ship in terms of game play value, I don't think it's that bad. Star Cruisers are support ships to me - meant to slug it out and provide healing support in teams. The only time I'm ever really in trouble with mine is if I get into a PUG with too many similar ships, and we can't make enough DPS together. Plus, I've kitbashed mine into a design I really like, and that alone is worth it to me.

On the other hand the fleet version... is expensive for what it does; 2000 zen worth of fleet modules (or the equivalent amount of EC to get them from the exchange) is pretty steep, and that much zen will likely also get you a C-store cruiser (or close to one) with better performance. I'd advise having a good look round before deciding once you hit level 50.

to the one saying to get a new ship, well i am not golden member, lifer or something else and my dil goes to the rep to get all the thingies and i am poor in rl so i can't get a new ship anytime soon except the free ones and to tell you the truth i like this ship very much, it has all the cruiser commands can tank even the plasma borg torpedoes that do insane damage, it turns pretty well it's at 14 it's turn rate, it's only downside is the tactical side but it can do enough damage to not be carried by other players and the last i have been flying it for months even though i am lvl 50 and i love it's design, i see so many players flying the galaxy even though it is worse and you have to pay for it but still you pay because you like it(personally i don't).

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the Star Cruiser per se.
I used one two years ago, because they have really, really neat design options.

And if you have fun with it, OP, go with it!

Buuuut... the ship is not competetive. It's a rather adequate support vessel, maybe, but on the damage side, it's just... meh. And this game gets more and more being about doing damage.
I can't even imagine to field one of those against the tankier Voth ships.
I blast them in mere seconds with my engineering Scimitar, my tactical Ar'kif or my tactical Fleet Assault Cruiser, but I guess i would have to shoot minutes if I still would use my old Star Cruiser (which got an honor spot in my shipyard, waiting for a Cryptic overhaul...).

Nonetheless, OP... this is about your fun and your fun only.
The Cruiser Commands at least made the Star Cruiser a bit more useful then a few weeks ago. :)
    That's a start.

The Star Cruiser was designed to be a Science oriented tanking Cruiser. There are very few ships capable of tanking on the same level as the Star Cruiser. Now, for PvE where tanking isn't required, it's possible to be competitive by running Plasma or Romulan Plasma Beam Arrays and the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array. In order to deal a decent amount of damage in the Star Cruiser, slot two plasma infusers in the tactical slots, 4 +Pla Emitter Arrays in the science slots, and place the zero-point energy conduit in a engineering slot for the two piece bonus with the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array. That will bring the Star Cruiser to effectively a 4.5 Tactical console slot ship.

Similarly, the Star Cruiser may be brought up to a 3 Tactical console slot ship via an antiproton build and the 2 piece Sphere of Influence set.

A Star Cruiser is a star cruiser, size doesnt mean power, its supossed a star cruiser its designed to do support tasks and to be mostly a tank, and it is more a colonial ship than anything else, but its not a good ship if you want damage, or tactical oriented skills, or to make roles of escort, for example. I could have about 3 or 4 of em xD , but i will not use em. A heavy scort is far better ship than the star cruiser for me , anyways. Science builds or engineering builds will benefit more from a star cruiser, but still, there are out there a lot of ships better than the star cruiser.

And it is a shame, because star cruisers look very nice, but more than that...

i didn't say that the say is competitive or mops the floor with the rotten corpses of the enemies but it is a good tank and can do some decent damage, i never compared it to a schimitar or avenger both of them are different types of ships, as for the voth, yes they are tanky especially the ship you fight at the end of the storming the spire but all the others i can manage pretty well even if it takes a little more to kill them but the damage the voth do is laughable, i am more concerned with the borg and their ridiculous crits but even then i can take a punch or two, yes sometime in the future i will buy a new cruiser to do more damage but for the moment if i were to choose between the sc the corvette and the obelisk i would choose the sc with close second the obelisk, i don't like the corvette at all and the escorts in general.

To get the fleet star cruiser you're going to need four fleet modules.

500 zen or a few million on the exchange.

Not particulary difficult to raise those amounts in game for free if you're dedicated to it.

    Wouldn't take too long either.

Thing is, if you're looking at a fleet star cruiser you obviously have access to at least a tier 2 shipyard.

With a little luck maybe a tier 3.

check out the other cruiser options before you buy the star cruiser.

It's an ok boat, but there are better, especially at tier 3.

I'd choose the support cruiser over the star cruiser any day of the week, and for an extra fleet module theres the advanced heavy.

    Good luck

Lol, I still have fun with the Fleet Excelsior. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.....

But as one guy said, if you like a particular ship, go for it, and have fun. In team events, as long as you're trying, not just goofing off, or purposely sabotaging things, who cares? If anyone says anything spiteful, just ignore what they say, and keep on trucking.

I second this opinion. The Fleet Support Cruiser has an Ensign Tac and a Lt. Uni and 3 tac console slots as opposed to 2, and it has great tanking ability with the right build without sacrificing too much fire power. If you have access to a tier V shipyard, the Fleet Assault Crusier is a beast.

How about a Mirror Assault Cruiser from the exchange starting at (as of the time of this post) 120,000 ec.

Looks just like the Star Cruiser

That will get you little different BOFF seating, 3 Tac consoles slots and the mirror skin for not quite so much currency.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers!

    :)

Ummm, actually, my Fed Eng (1st character), used one of those for months. Got lucky and a nice guy gave it to me, along with a couple of consoles, and a few Mk XI rare weapons, and a Mk XI VR weapon (Tetryon I think, at that time is what I ran).

Fun ship, and it wasn't hard to set it up for survival.

That's funny you should tell that story. I read this thread last night (Christmas Eve) and was thinking how much fun it would be to send a M.A.C. off to the OP so he'd find it in his mail for Christmas, but alas didn't know his mail address. :(

Foiled my chance to play Santa.. :(:(

I would suggest getting one/some Mirror Universe ships off the exchange. They are very affordable. Ranging from 40k-200k EC. While not any higher level than your Star Cruiser, they will let you get some variety of ship type/mission for virtually nothing
