Jem Drednaut - What Polaron?

Hi there, I wanted to transfer from phaser to polaron for my JHDC Beamboat, in order to match my fighters :D

However, I'm not sure what type to use.

Fleet - Quite alot of dilithium and FM, but easily doable after a few stints in the ground zone.

Phased Polaron - They are canon, and they have the phaser proc, which is one of my favorites. However, They cost way up into the millions, for a purple XII

Protonic Polaron - I have a large supply of these, both blue and purple, and some more would be easy enough to get hold of. Also, they will look and sound the same as my Experimental proton weapon :D

Any suggestions?

Also, as a secondary question -

From the lobi hunt, i managed to get about 220. Do i get the Jem set upgrade, or one of the crit boosting console, for my beam overload focused tac officer? If the latter, Which is the best choice?

Thanks all.

Wouldn't get Phased just for the heck of it, given the prices and rarity, except maybe for a sci ship. If you've got the Protonic in stock and wouldn't have to buy more, may as well (I wouldn't spend till on them without a very good reason however). Fleet will of course give you the best damage but as you say, dil and FC costs. Or you could just hit the Exchange, since regular Polaron weapons are relatively cheap there.

Phased only really worthwhile for PvP, IMO.

I'd mix Protonic Polarons with good mods and regular Exchange Mk XII purples (also with good mods).

As far as the Jem'Hadar Mk XII space upgrade, it brings the shields up to a little bit over Mk XI MACO capacity, the engines get increased weapons power setting (+5 regardless of power level), and the deflector gains extra stealth detection while getting normal buffs to Mk XII stats. The two-piece bonus has a higher damage boost to Polaron. Three set has increased shield drain on the Anti-proton sweep. The only real downside is that the deflector isn't very tank oriented, so, I usually just use a Positron with [Shds][SIF] with the Jem shields and engines on my JHDC instead, as the buff-strip chance isn't very useful in PvE and the AP sweep isn't worth the lack of tank.

If you go for a Lobi console, I'd go for the Bioneural Infusion Circuits, CritD in excess of what a Spire Vulnerability Exploiter Tac console adds, and more Hull HP than what a [+HullHP] Dil Mine Eng console can give (almost double for each of those). Plus, Subspace Decompiler, though that typically won't be much use on a JHDC. The Hull HP might be enough to make it worthwhile to run three-piece Jem'Hadar, though you'd lack shield strength/heal boost you'd get with a Positron.

I got the Mk xii Jem'Hadar set upgrade for mine and I did not regret it. That dmg boost is great and the items themselves are pretty good.

Since ive already made a cameo appearance in this thread via your sig (lol), i figured id chime in.

Used the Mk 12 jem set with regular polarons on my kdf engineer for months. Still would if it wasnt for my current love affair with romulan plasma.

you cant go wrong with a full purple people eater set. Add a Harpeng torpedo for additional pretty purple goodness.

In addition don't drop the console it comes with its good when dealing with bigger ships and stuff and the Jem'Hadar fighters are actually better than most people think as I used an advanced set and they did great.

fleet - safe choice i therms of damage.
phased - bite the bullet and buy them, they are probably the best.
protonic - weakest choice, additional proc is very very weak.

Yeah, i keep it slotted, as it's always fun to knock out a system every now and then! And Yeah, i have Elite Jem Fighters (Because they are exclusive), and Elite Peregrines (I know scorpions are better for torpedo damage, but they look cooler imo). There aint no way in hell i'll ever be able to afford a bug ship for the pets, and even if i got one by luck i'd sell it and get a D'kora and a Timeship!

I was planning to just have the Deflectors and Engines slotted, as i wanted to use the Dyson shield for the visuals it gives. Also, is the difference (In terms of the damage boost set bonus) worth the 200 lobi cost?

Haha - It just sums up how i felt about the millions of "Omg y u add dinosaurs" threads we got at s8 launch :D

And interesting, i hadn't considered the Harpeng. Would it be best to put it on the front or the back? Or both?

Depends on how much you like extra DPS, the buff to Polaron is at least on par with the Obelisk set running Antiproton. You could mount a [AMP] Warp core to push damage higher yet, giving it a positive edge over Obelisk.

Do you just want to match them visually? Regular polaron will be the most similar visually.

There are some slight visual differences in some (all?) of the others.

I'd upgrade the Jemmy set or one of the following: Bank the Lobis in hope of another free go round and get next year's killer shiny ship or turn Lobi into ec and buy the luxury item of choice, for Feds the Leech.

You can make 500k EC a day doing the foundry farm missions, 3-4 weeks of 15 mins a day and you can buy a leech, or spend $10 on 2 liberated borg or 3 idic tribbles etc and sell them on the exchange, the jemmy set is a nontransferable lobi only item. A klingon borg costs 500 zen and sells for 8-9m EC, two of those buys a leech with a few million to spare, idic tribbles are 300 zen and get over 6m, there are many other zen to ec trades with the value of each varying all the time.

When I put phased-polarons on my sci ship a few months ago and only the turrets were really expensive. In STFs the phaser and polaron procs do nothing to some borg structures and are pretty irrelevant to probes that don't fire back.

On the exchange you see weapons at high prices but they often don't sell, I've looted multiple mk12 purple dhcs, beam arrays and mines, gone to the exchange listed at just below the market price and it never sold. Rep and fleet gear is making that stuff irrelevant, eventually the people that horded exchange gear will get the message.
