I was doing a great deal of thinking today about STO and what it stands for..So I went to Youtube to try and find a video of what I felt was truth..This is what I found..Please feel free to give your comments on this..but no nasty trolling ..it would demean the whole meaning of what Gene Roddenberry was trying to impart to us ..

After watching that, it sort of feels like this game shames the name Star Trek.

I feel that what happened to Gene was very sad and horrible.

I do feel bad for his wife though considering some of the things he did to her. In the end, Star Trek was just a series designed to feed Gene his family.

If you want to be a purist, only the first season and a half of TOS, TMP, and the first season of TNG were Roddenberry's Trek, the rest were written and produced by others.

But in the same lines, STO does follow in the footfalls of Roddenberry in terms of how much he was centered on the almighty dollar.

Yeah, I kinda have expect him to have had one of those Japanese cat statues where the cat is holding a giant coin. (it's supposed to bring you good luck financially)

    Gene was like Zefram Cochrane.

Riker and a lot of other characters in the show went on and on about how Zefram was this great visionary. Then when Riker actually talked to him, Cochrane explained that he developed warp drive because he wanted money.

Gene was a writer who had a good storyline about science fiction that while pushing boundaries and helping break stereotypes was still about making money.
    Leonard Nimoy, Spock.....:(

Even still, he did believe we could be better than we are.

?Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. [?] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.?
    ― Gene Roddenberry

This is my favorite quote. I love the game and how it captured the diversity and it would be nice to see people honor the differences in the way of trek. I get so disappointed with the raging and flaming in the forums sometimes, it would be so nice to see it more Trek... and less MMO smashdown.... you didn't see spock start showing how superior Vulcans were becauset they stopped feeling, or Kirk meet a stranger by telling them to do anything with a body part involved. *sigh* I agree.. this game is good and the players are there, we just need to show more numbers of the true Roddenberry vision.
