A challenge to the Player Community in STO: Holiday Gifting

raventomoeraventomoe Member Posts: 723 Arc User
I was pondering this the last few days and figured to maybe voice this idea.

With it being the Holiday season time...I was thinking why not give stuff to players we know or random players? I don't mean cheap stuff we get in drops. I am talking hard-to-find/acquire items like Aegis Sets, purple crafted equipment, Lock Box ships (and not just Mirror Universe but also the special ships), Etc.

So I challenge the community during the next 21 days to start finding players in their Fleets or out in their travels and drop them something special, like a Wells to a low-leveled Science Captain. I can tell you that it will make their day!

Already done this once to some random passerby in the wonderland.
Changing my toon to look like Santa made me feel in a giving mood.

This is a good idea. I'm always poor as dirt (in terms of ec) in game with nothing valuable to give, but I support the idea. :)
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

A lot has happened since the Bible ... LOL

As much as I like your idea, few will accept ... their hard earned cash would be spent on other meaning in many minds: WASTED!

Besides, I allow Rank 2 people in my fleet access to the fleet store.

Plus I occasionally get some 50k weapons for newb players.
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

Anyone giving away a Wells for nothing needs their head examined.

An examination i'd be more than happy to perform if someone gave me a Wells for free :P I've got the Korath uniform, but not the ship, which makes me sad.

It's not much, but i'm giving away my excess Winter Commodities to fellow fleet members to help them get what they want. I've already gotten two fleeties Winter weapons, pre-patch.

It's a nice thought OP, but most people will be far too self-absorbed to think about giving away something as big as a Wells. Most i've seen people do is give away Winter food because hey, you only need one for a winter tribble.

I wouldn't mind one for my new Joined Trill Sci Cap on the Fed side to be honest and I am not really expecting much anyways on that score.

This thread makes me wish there was a way to buy items in the Zen store for our friends. I mean directly, have a buy as gift button. For now if we want to get out friends something in the Zen store we have to buy a card and send them the code.

I gave a friend 12 mil EC so he could buy up all the bells and beads he needed to get a full winter set of clothing. Does that count?

Another game I played has this.

It created more problems than it solved once people realized they could get others banned by gifting them an item, waiting until the other got it, then cancelling payment. Giftee finds themselves in possession of an item and told their account is locked until item is paid for.

I was more or less replying to the comment. I am not expecting anything to myself but I know that others would love something awesome in their mailboxes/cargo bays.

I spent my whole EC stash the other day on someone who had been struggling to get the temporal science class to complete his collection.

And this is the kind of thing I want to see more of being mentioned! Spread the challenge I put forth in the game and let's see if we can give it forward.

Why stop doing it after this season? So far i`m helping out my fleeties on a regular basis, by giving em EC (useless most of the time),lobi stuff, lockbox ships, including the rare ones etc. Okay, so far i`ve only given away to my fleeties, but hey, i like the idea of spreading the joy around. Good idea to enlarge it to giving stuff away to non-fleeties.
After all, how much do you need to be happy?

Karma`s more powerful then any AP weapon and it can`t get nerfed :P

    Ho ho ho...Mary go round...at warpspeed :)
