Character Faction impact on char type

I am by no means a noob, but this question has been nagging at me for a while. No one in my fleet has an answer and I can find nothing on the Forum about it. I think this is an excellent question for the Academy page as it will help new and experienced players create new toons...

So I ask you, what if any impact does a characters faction have on the type of character created?
(e.g. If we go by Star Trek cannon... Klingon faction are a warrior race and therefore be excellent Tactical Officers but not so great in Science or Engineering).

Thanks for any imput!

At the moment? Little, except for (non-lockbox) ship choice.

Starfleet has something for everyone, particularly including C-Store purchases. If there's a layout you want, Starfleet is almost guaranteed to have it. Unlike the other two, most of the Starfleet ships that aren't Tac-focused lack the ability to mount dual cannons.

In the KDF, Science captains may feel constrained to the massive Vo'quv or the fragile Bird-of-Prey without going to the C-Store or using a "cross-class" ship, but the KDF has a substantial array of powerful battle cruisers that more Eng-focused players feel right at home in. Without as much attention as Starfleet or as many new ships as the Romulans, any Tactical players that don't care for either the BoP (nimble and extremely versatile, but easily the most fragile ships in the game) or the powerhouse battle cruisers have only a few choices left.

The Romulan Republic is more constrained, like the KDF, except rather than having a wide variety of battle cruisers, the warbirds are very strongly dominated by Tac-heavy seating, even with the C-Store. The only Science-heavy Romulan ship is the Ha'nom, and the Eng-based D'deridex and Ha'apax are very slow to turn uncloaked.

In terms of ground equipment, there is no difference between the factions except the order in which you unlock the STF sets, Romulans obviously using the STF sets of their sponsor faction.

Traits-wise, Humans and Klingons are actually quite similar (and Caitians/Ferasans are just blue/red counterparts of each other), while Romulans/Remans have extra traits focused around the abilities of their Warbirds. Klingons do lack the Humans' Leadership trait, which offers a marginally useful bonus to defenses in space, but in return they have innate superiority in dealing damage on the ground.

Speaking of characters, and not to attempt to hijack your thread (think of it as a free bump), wasn't there a character profile stored on the website where you could edit your bio and such outside the game? Is this no longer available? Did it go away when Cryptic turned the accounts over to PWE?

That is the Gateway. Here is some info. The link does not work however.

Each species have their own traits. Klingons are warriors indeed. They got their special traits which makes them better in melee. Read species descriptions to know more about each.
