Avenger Battlecruiser - Engineer or Tactical

Hi, I've just purchased an Avenger Battlecruiser - in fact it is the ship that bought me back to this game after a year or two (maybe 3) away.

I have a Engineer and Tactical character who is better suited for that ship?

I've tried both, and I say Engineer.

There arent really enough slots for Tac BO abilities, and a commander engineer lends itself to all kinds of EPtX/DEM goodness, especially if you have Miracle Worker and Rotate Shield Frequency to fall back on without using BO slots.

I also say the turn rate doesn't really lend itself to effectively using cannons. My ruling is that the Avenger wants to be an Eng DEM/FAW boat.

Everytime I come back to this game I'm even more of a noob than before...

EPtx = Emergency Power to ____, where x = shields, weapons, engines, structural integrity, etc, depending on whether you're more interested in dealing or eating damage.

DEM = Directed Energy Modulation. Gives a chance at scaled shield penetration damage from your beams and cannons.

^^Those two are engineering BO abilities.

FAW = Fire at Will. A tactical BO ability.




Another bonus for an Eng flying an Avenger is that your Engineer Admiral should be able to train your Eng bridge officer in some of those abilities.
