So I hit 800 Lobi on the last day of the FE rerun event. Now to decide what to do with it. I've been looking at the different Lobi store ships, to see if I might want to buy one. However, given the investment, I'm curious how the various Lobi ships perform and could not find another thread on it.
I have quite a few toons, so the actual build is less important (I will likely have a toon that could fit), although I prefer escorts and science vessels to cruisers. My current view on it is this:
* My science character already has the Temporal Warfare lobi set and a Nukara/Tetryon build, so might match either the Moebius or the Recluse.
* Both my sci and my tac are progressing quickly on the Dyson track, which might be good for the Palisade.
* Carriers are not really my cup of tea, which might rule out the JH Dreadnought, the Tholian Recluse and the Advanced Obelisk.
* I find the Tal Shiar Battle Cruiser very ugly, so that's off the list for sure.
* I do not own any of the lock box ships, so no console set bonuses to consider.
There is always still the option of selling or trading the lobi ship for one of the lock box ships, so I?m looking for opinions. Thanx in advance!
The advice that caught my eye there was that you can buy all the ships on exchange for EC, but the consoles and gear you mostly can't. So it might be better to farm EC, buy the ship you like, use the lobi for upgrades.
The other option was buy the one selling for the most on exchange, sell it, then use the EC to buy the one you want and pocket any difference (if it is big enough to matter, of course).
As for which ship, I have no real guidance. The Monbosh, Moebius, Recluse, TS Adapted Destroyer, JH Escort Carrier, all come highly recommended (as does the Adv. Obelisk but you sorta crossed that off). You should probably note down the primary stats of each of those on a sheet of paper, and start eliminating ships based on BOff layout, console layout, low hull, attached console, turn rate - whatever might be a dealbreaker for you.
That process would apply even if you go for the buy-ship-with-EC, gear with Lobi option - so the effort is well spent either way.
I only look at Lobi ships to fill gaps in the faction lineup, since Lobi is way more scarce than either Fleet Credits or Dilithium. The Monbosh is a nice 10-turn battlecruiser that compares well to the KDF Tor'Kaht and the Fed Avenger, and fills a hole in the Romulan lineup. The Jem'Hadar Dread is a nice tactical carrier counterpart to the Kar'Fi that can work for either Fed or Romulans. That's it for me, the rest of the "fill" ships I have penciled in are from lockboxes, things like the Korath as a KDF sci vessel from the temporal box, or the Jem'Hadar Escort Carrier as a KDF HEC. If I didnt have a need for any of the Lobi ships, I would sell it and buy one of the others.

I hadn't considered this yet, but that's a very good point. My current EC goal (a very long-term goal) is either the D'Kora or the Galor, and the former would likely benefit if I saved my Lobi for the Ferengi set items, and who knows what the box after the Voth one will bring. Barring that, I already have the Temporal Warfare set, so an EC-bought Moebius would be much more efficient.
So, no purchase today. And if my long-term goal gets to long, I can always sell a Lobi ship later (once the current overflow of Lobi from the event is gone) put the EC in the piggy bank for a bigger prize.
Its quite interesting that you discarded the two most powerful lobi ships right from the start, namely the Recluse (the most underestimated ship in sto) and the JHDC.
But as mentioned in another post, you can buy lobi-ships with EC, and useful consoles with Lobi, which would make more snece.
Well, I am on the fence with the Recluse, because I do like the look and sound of it. I believe it was Scotty who, in one of the novels, said of a new ship: "You've got to like her, or else you won't fight for her." Hence also my quick disregarding of the Tal Shiar and to lesser extent Jem'Hadar ships.
I've seen a few YouTube lets-plays where the Recluse takes a stupendous amount of beating without blinking, and the engineer/science hybrid would match my science character's current build well (currently flying a fleet star cruiser, the aforementioned Nukara/Tetryon build). Experience however, has tought me that I don't handle carriers very well. I don't want to risk spending a lot of resources on a ship that'll end up in dock.
Im nearly in the same position. I finally reached the 800 Lobi-mark and now I cant decide which ship I should buy for my science character. On the plus side: I narrowed the decision down to the recluse or the TS adapted battlecruiser. But still....I cant decide
Actually im in a Vesta and Im pretty happy with it. But more toys cant hurt and since Im limited in terms of money anyway, selling it isnt an option.
I second the above: get something that is very different from your faction. For example I use the recluse because as a rom, I can't get a faction 2 bay carrier and did not like the (at that time) only sci ship available.
Getting something nearly identical to what you already have ... only makes sense if you are very much a max/min player, and in that case, you would not have asked.

PS
Sorry for my english
The recluse is amazing. With the cmdr universal you can set up a bunch of builds, and OP frigate pets more than make up for the 6 weapon weakness. The TS seems to be just a sidegrade to the already very nice vesta.
