Confession time! I barely play my KDF Engineer. I've hit 50 mostly through Doffing and didn't even bother to get the Chell Grett warship last time like I did on 2 Fed alts. I spent my Vice Admiral ship token on a Kar'Fi, and the only KDF C-store ships I have are the Tier 4 ships they were handing out for free a few months ago.
BUT! With the Plesh Brek incoming, and future improvements to Raiders, along with my beginning to hit the upper ceilings of progression on my Fed main (and further along on my Romulan alt), I think I'm ready to start spending on the KDF (see? It works!).
SO! I need recommendations for a Raider. I've already burned my free T5 ship on a Vo'quv, and as above, I picked up a Kar'Fi, so that's two carriers, alongside my Veteran Ship and a Kamarag I fly as a beam boat. I own a Ning'tao because Quad Cannons look cool. I plan to also buy a Scourge for the Plasmonic Leech and that one ship with Subspace Jump (flanking!), so I should be OK for having recommended gimmicks.
NOW! It's high-end Raider time! Should I burn some Dil on a Hegh'ta? Go to the Fleet Store for a Ho'sus? Or is the B'rel the only serious choice (which I'm not looking especially forward to because I don't really like its classic looks)?
That's sort of a given until the Raider buffs get put into effect for KDF ships, but I'd like to get into an actual Empire-faction raider, with the cloak and the universal consoles, etc...

Get the Ning'Tao lvl20 BoP (for the quad cannons) OR the Ch'tang lvl30 BoP (for the subspace jump), then get the Fleet Norgh.
With the quad cannons an the fact that you're an Eng means you shouldn't have issues mantaining a costant dmg dealing.
With the subspace jump you can more easly get behind your target, thus allowing to better use the future raider update when it comes to the KDF BoPs.
Get both, and i have no idea what that?d become, but i think that there's a motive if both consoles are available on BoPs....
Fleet Hohsus is the best. Why bother with a "raider" that doesn't even cloak, that Plesh Brek is a death trap.
Brel is only if you want the iconic look, enhanced battle cloak wont help much as you need to decloak to fire energy weapons and all projectile builds don't work good anymore.
Don't feel bad, I don't play my KDF engineer either.
Anyways, I know you said you don't like the look but the B'rel is what I'd argue to be the most solid choice. Mostly for the Enhanced Battle Cloak of it.
Having a fully uni set-up, and being able to do almost anything from cloak is a very VERY nice thing to have and lets you do things you wouldn't be capable of doing in other ships.
You could fly it as a sci-spammer, launching out nasty, icky sci stuff like GWs, or DOFFed VMs, PSWs, Scrambles, etc.
You could torp boat it up in the torpedo/mine flavor of your choice (I recommend transphasics)
You could play a cloaked healer. Get the Obelisk Warp Core from Sphere of Influence, run with 135 Aux and equip as many SIF and Emitter Array consoles and other gear to get as much healing as you can. For extra super-happy-fun-time trolling, take a big, slow friend to Ker'rat (a Bortas works REALLY well) and just keep on tossing them heals and watch the 'frustrat-o-meter rise'. :P
You could also run it like the more 'classic' alpha striker, buffing up and wanting whittle everything down. It's a good 'trainer' ship in that regard you could say, and if it's a strategy you like and get good at, you could eventually look at the fleet Hoh'sus or fleet Norgh as a dedicated ship for it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Gravity well space magic + transphasics is still viable.

Except t'varo does it better and the fleet ship is available with tier SB.

For what it's worth, the T'varo is Romulan-exclusive, so since I'm looking for a Klingon ship, the B'rel is my only option for a torp bomber.
Assuming that the new KDF ship (which I will also assume is a raider) is delayed indefinitely (seems to be the implication from the gripers that normally run this board), I guess I'll go for a Hegh'ta. That way I can spend Dil and not Zen.
If you are wanting to play with the new stuff then I would advise waiting until the new stuff is actually released. If you want to buy something right now to get the feel of a BOP, use whatever you have the currency for, since it will all change or none of it will.
I've been hearing interesting things about the fleet Norgh, which intrigues me since I love the Ningtao skin. How does the fleet Norgh compare to the fleet Brel and hosus?
Also, I was under the impression that most thought the fleet hosus to be weak sauce. Has that changed recently? And what about the vanilla heghtah?
Sorry about all the questions, it's just that I'm looking for a good excuse to spend money on the KDF and raiders seem like a fun way to that

The Ho'Sus not really is a weak sauce, but it's almost comparable to the acquarius.
The Norgh tends to be a improved version of the Hegh'tah, but not much more about it that i can tell. Unfortunately i never got around a Fleet-issue BoP to tell exactly.

The fleet Norgh is squishier than most BoPs, and still only has 9 consoles despite being a fleet ship.
HOWEVER, it does have the unique honor of having two Lt. Cmdr universal slots, instead of 2 Lt level ones, which also gives it the full 12 BOFF powers like most ships in the game, unlike other BoPs which have 11.
So you have:
Cmdr uni
Lt. cmdr uni
Lt. cmdr uni
Lt. uni
Which has a LOT of possibilities behind it. A Lt. Cmdr slot might not seem like much, but there's lots of choices, and offers combinations no other ship can depending on what you want.
Anywho, your basic Hegh'ta, you cannot go wrong with it if that is all you want. It's not a bad choice at all, if you are simply wishing to use a BoP. The Hegh'ta also has the 2nd most hull of all BoPs. Only the three fleet level BoPs (B'rel, Norgh, Hoh'sus) beat it in hull, but just by a little bit. The Hegh'ta has no fleet version though.
I recommend the B'rel, because not only are the stats EXTREMELY close to the Hegh'ta (the Hegh'ta is a bit more tough, while the B'rel is more nimble), the B'rel offers unique features and strategies due to the Enhanced Battle Cloak (some of which I mentioned in my previous post on your thread here).
Dunno who you were talking to that said the fleet Hoh'sus was 'weak sauce', but that is a hard hitting little bugger. It's the only BoP in the game to have 4 tac consoles (to compare the fleet Norgh keeps a 3/3/3 and the Fleet B'rel gets the...questionable addition of an engineering console), which means lots of ouchies on your opponent. It is squishy at the fleet level, barely having more hull than the basic Hegh'ta, but it can really really hurt.
If you really are wanting a bit more of a simpler break down...
Hegh'ta: Go for it as a good 'starter' BoP if you really want it. It will never let you down as long as you are willing to work with it.
Fleet Hoh'sus: Since the fleet system has been released, this is one of two primary alpha striker ships due to having the 4 tac consoles.
Fleet Norgh: The other more alpha striker ship, which squishy like the fleet Hoh'sus, but it offers you a unique experience with the full 12 BOFF slots, including those two Lt. cmdr slots
B'rel: You can run a 'classic' alpha striker much like other normal BoPs, but the unique feature of the EBC, offers very different possibilities depending on how you want to make them work.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

I own Hoh'sus, I own Norgh. I like the Norgh better-and that's on a Tac captain. YMMV, but the breakdown comes out as how you intend to do your damaging work.
Also own the B'rel. That one only felt good on my sci, for some odd, strange reason.
But...
if you're not going to spend zen or fleet credits plus zen, there's very little you can do wrong going with a Hegh'ta right from L40 onward. It's a versatile ship, the Haj skin looks good on it, and it's a solid, if somewhat dated, ride with a wealth of build advice out there to get the most from it.
One reason it felt good is that it was designed for science officers
Pretty much same I use Norgh Tact, Hoh'sus Eng, and B'rel Sci.
Only gripe I have with the hoh'sus and with a lot of fleet ships is they don't give us much or any customization at all with fleet ships. So if something is as ugly and just a gawd awful eyesore like the hoh'sus its you get better tactical if you can deal with the way it looks like the enemy can't hit it because already so full of holes lol.
