Fleet Holding Consolidation

Recently I have been thinking over the way that Fleets are gaining holdings, first we gained a Starbase near the Klingon/Fed Boarder, then an Embassy on New Romulus and a Mine near DS9 and now a Spire on a sphere. In short all our fleet holdings have been scattered all over the place.

Each location has its own interior and/or exterior which we have worked diligently to upgrade which is exciting but with all these disparate places the fleet has become less and less a hub fro our members. In fact its become a rare occasion when I see members of my little fleet at anything other than the Starbase DOff Store. This emptiness of the fleet holdings is only going to increase as more new locations are added as time passes.

To me this feels like the concept behind a fleet being a central location of its members to meet is being lost. Starbases should be about bringing people together,

What I would like to see for future holdings is to get away from these new and spread out facilities and instead take advantage of the fact that a Starbase is a massive construction with (at the highest tiers) nearly a hundred floors.

For example, say we the next season involves meeting a new species and setting up interactions between the existing factions and this new one. Rather than a fleet have to go to a planet and build a Embassy like holding, how abut instead we open up a new deck in the Starbase a free-trade/bazaar/zocalo/promenade level which can be populated with all sorts of people and in turn be upgraded with stores and vanity projects as normal.

Next update is all about discovering some uber-advanced-long-lost-tech? How about a new Engineering or Science deck? Specialized laboratories and holodecks for running simulations, astrometric arrays for exploration expansions.

I can think of tons of "rooms" and decks that could be added to a starbase so that you did not keep spreading out the holdings further and further. Similarly you could add to the appearance of the various satellite holdings near a starbase for new constructions and it should not significantly impact on those PvE Queued Maps that use the fleets system.

I also think that this sort of consolidation would have benefits for the smaller fleets that are struggling to keep up with the spread of project locations. While I am proud of the progress my own Fleet has made as each new holding has appeared it has gotten more and more difficult to get our members to even bother looking at the older holdings. Once they have what they want they move on to the new eye-candy.

Returning to "upgrade" the starbase over and over would provide that impetus to those who have forgotten about it, theirs nothing like seeing the half-built hull of a Starbase to remind a player to check out what projects need contribution.

In short, let us add more of a DS9 feel to our starbase, make it the central location that a fleet operates out of and one that they return to.

That sounds about right and i do agree with you putting holding close to the location that certain players already have for their transwarp then whats the point on having them if were having the fleet bases to get there and plus i like the idea of having more decks and functionality but i did heard they would do that at first with the holodeck but i guess not.

Now also on a Note in STO wiki they sayd they would have territory controls for starbases well they should do it soon since almost all fleet are all the same stats right now that they are all even that means it would be pointless to do that. I am sorry if this was off subject but just wanted to say it.

Anyway i support your idea and wish they would do more for our fleet base then adding stuff farther away.

That sounds like an excellent idea.

i dont know why the mine has an upper level thats used for nothing, and half the consoles in the embassy are unused. i do hope that future holdings will somehow utilise what we already have rather than introducing yet another cavernous location with a couple consoles/vendors.

+ 1 to that idea. To be honest making new maps only to put there 1-2 NPC and one console is waste of resources. Cryptic stop putting new located holdings, finish what we have already and make it fully usable. This game have too much unused location like Andoria.

And let us stay in! Each time I log out from my fleet starbase, I end up in sector space or Sol system! What is the point of a star base that you cant stay?

I agree they need to add a more logistical format to the holdings and give filler. Now, the thing i would like to see is what I originally thought the thread was suggesting, consoiidating and tracking the amount of provisions and whatnot in holdings on the fleet UI screen. I would love to just click a tab and see how many of each provision in each spot has been bought AND BY WHOM!!!! to track players vs contributions. This would help the "stealing" issues we see in larger fleets and some others that have overdone permissions.

As for your idea, I have to say ... it would make sense to have an area for the logistical standpoint of maintaning contact with an outpost of our holding. That is what they are, advanced outposts in the front line thick of where the action is... that is why they are scattered. In a war torn climate you can't rally the wagons and create a stronghold when the resources are across the river and you are all huddled in the cave. it doesn't make sense to be able to get, gain, build and garnish with embellishments to claim a flag in the name of the fleet. THAT is why it is scattered. The supply chain would be great to see.. let us use consoles to interact with requisition requests and designate a fleet level membership to administrate over that interaction with a yes/no and then allow resubmission on why.

This would lessen the drama between misunderstandings and lost messages of what is required. it would make sense to have a Rules/Orientation console to which each member could read on what is acceptable and click "i agree" like we do to play the game and talk here. It would also be useful for fleet to fleet reporting of times available, problems in play, abuse, and whatnot that we ticket in here.. a console could be used to track conduct and reports and numbers of tickets on players that got complaints against them. This would help in promotion/demotion and removal in the holding number of players.

To be fair, It needs a Management/Command P.A.D.D. on our admiral's office desk for those that are allowed. We should click the tab and see in one screen, current projects and status, overall contributions of members with a slide down filter for each vs all , a veiw screen to see upcoming specials and past specials that were achieved and those that were missed that could be caught up with the next go around of featured project reruns. This would make provisioning and building more seamless. On the screen, announcements could be made without a fleet mail sent. Who wants 2 or 3 mails of the same thing if they have alts in fleet? This would elimate that with a tab on the UI. Also, a Bridge Officer Trainer on base, and a Trader for commodities reduction like warp coils, would be helpful.

A shuttle button from fleet starbase and holding and back on each via mini-transwarp would work to fix the "everything everywhere" blues so you can get to it all from the command center. Also, a console in the coommand center would help to requisition fleet ships, cores, shields, consoles, weapons, shields and buffs and etc. It would make sense that you put a request in from the console that says what you can get... and just like in starfleet they grant you commission of yada... so would the fleet and you go to the site with said commission token.. this would track holdings easier.

Yes, pain in the TRIBBLE for the one day a fleet power players... but a fleet person could be on hand to just autoclick approve and be done. I think they could also use an honest veiwscreen like we saw on the Tal Shiar listening post caommand in the mission where we saw the NPC pull up all the information at a console with a picture of what it looked like. This could help for things like fleet projects progress.. and status and announcements regarding upgrades.. future additions.. and whatnot.. for the devs to drop on a statement in the console slot to keep all informed without need of the forum. This would be exponentially helpful to leaders that are overworked, stressed and have little time to fish the forum for a patch note that changes a holding.

I agree with the concept of slowing down with the acquisitions of holdings. I disagree with the idea of not having them spread out.

Every holding comes with a transwarp conduit than means all you have to do is finish the conduit. The Fleet mine holdings does not have one because you can earn a DS9 transwarp ability by doing it missions. I hope I am correct on that.

I maybe a little old fashion but Star Trek was about exploration not how fast I can get something or somewhere.
