The Sphere is boring really. The "missions" are just a chore to do, if they can be called missions at all. It's really just a series of, "Report to this location at once!" missions. The assingments you can do in the allied zone are a joke. Would Kirk or Picard be caught dead realigning supply crates? NO! People aren't hooked in the Allied Zone so they either don't go on to the Conteseted Zone o they don't stay once they report to the area and go straight to the Battlezone.
Why is this team play only? Where are the story missions? Those cutscenes for each reputation tier really don't cut it. What do you say to the guy? Why aren't there attached missions like on New Rom?
It's like Voyager really. Lot's of promise, but little action. This kind of thing is what led to the old trek this game is based on dying off and led to the advent of the new films being big dumb action pieces without a coherent story behind them.
There needs to be stuff that can be enjoyed when played alonee, ie; Story missions. So far all The Sphere is is runnig around doing chores. This would be fine if we had a better reason than Omega Particles bad!
Critting on certain assignments heavily implies that the aliens that created the Dyson Sphere are the same aliens that are in the Schism episode from TNG. Massive experiment that goes wrong forces a ton of aliens into subspace.
Not sure what you mean by team play only. Never had to team up to do Allied Space content or Battlefield content.
I kind of disagree with OP. On the one hand if you did this day in and day out then I can see how it might get boring. But the zone does break up the routine a bit. Of course I won't touch the ground map (laser tag dino) with a 10-foot pole.
In general Season 8 is meh.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
I'm agree, it is far dull. Same story again, we need to collect new consoles, sets, etc. Nothing more, but a job to do. But the question is : what for??? When I will have all items, the only prize is the grinding will be easier.
And the whole area is strange, large and empty. I cannot feel deep contact with the series. On my point of view, this is the worst season.
I will have or already have Voth,Borg,Nukara,Romulan, Breen etc items. My banks are full (I bought all expansion already) with unused sets.
The only positive point I can say is the sponsorship.
I am extremely disappointed with this dyson sphere. I was expecting story driven missions. Not go here and just kill, kill, kill, kill, kill......etc. I am totally sick of grinding for every little thing. So i agree op too dull. Season 8 is full of meh.
As I said in other threads... the Sphere has a single layer of story. No instanced side-quests, no unlockable additional missions or progressions.
NewRom by contrast was a single planet, that unfolded a complete story as you progressed. You did your daily poodle-harvest, tagged the Jumbo Romulan Mollusks and so forth so on... and were rewarded with elaborate cutscenes, additional missions and so on so forth.
The sphere, for all that it's an ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM-sized volume... has but a single layer of missions. And they are the EXACT SAME MISSIONS every hour, every day. I can almost write a script to drive my mouse-pointer and keyboard. Go here, click this three times, shoot a dozen swarmers and call it complete. Do this ten times, get your commendation token.
The ground-zone is a little better, the dynamics change depending on who is with you... but in the end it's the exact same thing every time. Turn everything blue, shoot three giant T-rex, get tokens.
Of the two, NewRom was the better of the two adventure-zones. Better execution, better story and more stuff to do, period the end.
What it looks like to me... the Devs spent all their time and resources in building this huge expansive visually impressive world and forgot to populate it. Like many things this company does, The Sphere seems half-finished.
I would say we got less than half a season this time. The FE was top-notch, but the actual season itself lacks repeatability -- which is CRITICAL for a grind-MMO.
Here's hoping Winter Wonderland somehow makes up for the shortcomings of this season in a big way.

This is what your unused ships and Bridge Officers are for. It is a lot easier to find a set if it is on a specific ship or Bridge Officer than if it is tossed in the bank. The only equipment that should be in the bank is stuff you don't want to bind to your character and stuff you want to keep, but don't have room for it elsewhere. Of course, pets and data sample should be in the bank, but they are not equipment.
The ground and space contested zones are fun because they are dynamic, never know if it will be quick and easy or everyone in the instance has less than 1/100th of a clue. It is good to be able to roll in and get marks, dilithium and tokens without queueing up once or standing in one spot calling out "LFT FED/KDF Epohh tag". Just roll in and grab a mission then off and running to either capture towers in space or capture points on the ground. Also unlike Nukara prime the onlyy thing you have to worry about from ninja's is command credits and those are optional missions, where nukara you get people talking to the NPC's you save and get credit for them, grab the machines before you can, and get the kill for the loot pill making you take far longer in the zone.
Over all for how to generate marks and dilithium the sphere is by far the best one so far.
As for an adventure zone, New Romulus is far far better. Not everything is combat related theres bits of story here and there. you can mess about just for fun. hunt for exploration accolades, and generaly have a chance to relax. Syson has the combat done quite good but in the allied side there is a huge ground no combat game void that new Rom and even Nimbus had filled. Where are the ground exploration accolades just for figuring out a jump maze? Or going off to some spot there doesnt seem to be a reason to? Where are the scan this X number of times without combat sciency stuff to do? a 4 room 2 hallway base and another single room 3 hall base for non combat ground is not the same.

I think it's dull as well, despite the exciting visuals that were leading up to its release. But I don't know if I'm just tiring of this game and need to give it a rest for a while, or if there is genuinely something wrong with the way this update has been implemented. Certainly Sphere of Influence blew me away with how good it was, it's just a pity the actual update itself didn't excite me.
I suspect that the daily stats Cryptic must analyse every week are telling a different story, or making it very clear that Season 8 isn't as popular as they hoped.
We don't have to play the sphere, we can wait for the next major update or the next seasonal event to reignite our interest. There's certainly more to come, we know that.
Battlezone alone is fine not even my tac has problems there. My engi and scis just sleepwalk through it. But its fun nonetheless.
In regards to ghe contested zone well its the same as all the other space stuff: much to easy and repetative. I had great war like feeling the first few times but then it got boring again.
Could someone pls explain to cryptic mission designers that content that it meant to be repeated over and over again needs some random elements to it?
And pls can we get an elite version of the sphere?
I couldnt care less how many ppl are so bad at this game that even normal stfs are a challange to them - i want harder content. And pls a lot of it with all the recent power creep sonce lor its been really bad and i am by far not doing the most dmg
FedEx missions - pick up medical specialists - kill a lot of the potential of the Sphere.
There are not many truly dynamic events, especially in the Allied Zone. So the daily quests become rather boring indeed. The potential of the Space Adventure Zone has not yet been fully realized, but at least the ground part works better than the previous adventure zones, like Romulus.
I hope we see more exciting space adventure zones in future, this time truly in space. Ground might be nice for a change but funnily even the way larger than usual zone feels like a shoebox due to the visible ground and the easy to reach max ceiling.

And then? If you want to test the experience get a T4 or even T3 ship, deck it out with MK VIII whites and keep it that way for a week of playtime. You will find out that it still is all about combat and even more combat that bores you :P

He will have not a clue to clue upon with what you just suggested.
Nothing like nerfing yourself to get the challenge you want huh? but MK VIII whites??? No thats still OP by itself. One must not have a BOFF assigned to the stations and if they do have one they must be recruits only and never promoted or skill points added. trained in an ensign skill? yeah why not, but no points added to the skill and not promoted.
Want a challenge? make a challenge instead. But be prepared to be bored regardless.

Yeah I'll be honest the first day or two I checked out the sphere and the structure itself and the capturing points on the ground is impressive but beyond that I got hired real quick. No story driven missions just cut scenes when completing a new rep tier. If they claim they bit off more than they could chew with this season then their team is sorely much smaller than they have boasted lately, no offense cryptic.
But yeah haven't touched the game in two weeks and guess what? I've lost 5 pounds since then bc I'm not sitting on my butt all day playing star trek! I actually feel healthier and better than I have in a long time and honestly I suggest everyone who can, go try it! Its nice trying to have more of an active social life than spending my nights and days inside depressed and playing out my fantasies in video games for a change!
I have to agree. The lack of "story" content make this the least impressive season since they started. I'm hoping Season 9 is stronger. The gameplay is fun, but the story element (which is why I'm playing a Trek game, btw...) is completely lacking.
"I'm bored" is the easiest and most common statement one can possibly make in any MMO.
It's not constructive, offers nothing much (besides maybe a lazy "FIX IT" post) to propose how it ought to be changed, but it certainly gets other people to agree with you in a head-nodding hypnotic wave of negativity.

Battlezone is a lot of fun if you're with a team. I definitely wouldn't want to do it solo, though.
