Hi folks,

I'm nearing completing my tier 4 Dyson Rep so wondering which is the better ability to get: Active Hull hardening ( 0 to 75% resistance rating) or Tactical advantage (0 to 15% target resistance debuffing starting 50% health).

    It depends, more hull hardening the better. Or using the Tact Debuff with your bonuses to do more damage.

    Me, I like the hull protection, cause I have enough power amps to give moderate damage, plus my crits come but so often.

    It all depends on your career path on the character you are playing...

    On my Tactical I generally select Offensive "powers" as they help with the deal more damage against large heavy bosses/ships.

    Again it all depends on your character path...

    The choice is rather simple to figure out

    1. Do you have any resistance consoles slotted and tend to die often?
    No=damage
    Yes = defense

    2. Do you never die and lack dps?
    No=defense
    Yes=damage

    4. Do you have any resistance, do a lot of dps and never die?
    No=resistance
    Yes=damage
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

    I don't think the 0-15 resistance debuff is worth it because it only starts when the target is already at 50% hull - meaning it's already close enough to death anyway.

    After some testing, I've noticed that the 0-75 resistance buff doesn't offer much in the way of resistance even when you're at half hull (seems to be 5-10%). This leads me to believe that the resist buff possibly works like armor consoles in that it has a stacking penalty.

    yes...I've heard of diminishing returns. If you already have lots of hull resistance you get less of a benefit while you get more of a benefit if you do not have much resistance.

    I'm still no where decided which to choose. I run a tactical cruiser. I already dish out lots of damage and have a pretty high critical chance. Not sure how much more tactical advantage will add. However, extra hull resistance will be nice as I've sacrificed some of my tanking abilities for the extra offensive power. However, I like to know how much you gain in actually hull resistance. How much do you gain if you have no armor consoles at 100%, 75%, 50% hull, 10%?

    Wonder if anyone tested it yet.

    I play only PvE. I have a pretty tough A2B Excel. In Elite STFs I get about 14k DPS and "never" die. Any other PvE content gets ROTFLStomped.

    The exception being the new Voth ships. They tend to bypass my shields and have various powers that eat me up pretty good. I still don't die so much that I'd call it "common", but saying I die "uncommonly" would fit.

    After some thought, I went for Active Hull Hardening at Dyson T4. There are Diminishing Returns on the power. I've got one Enhanced Neutronium Alloy Mk XII [+Turn], and with the new Passive, I go from a standing resistance of ~30% to just ~60% when I'm down to ~10% Health.

    Seems to be helping. I'm dying less. I'd say vs. the Voth it only happens "rarely" now. I'm satisfied with the results.

    You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

    Thanks Havelock,

    Your information is very useful. 30% to 60% resistance is pretty good. I run a ship similar to you...A2B Fleet Assault cruiser. I almost rarely die in pve as well. So I was thinking I'd get more bang for the buck with the 'advanced tactical"...however I pvp at times and do not want a build solely for pve. Your information has me leaning more for the Hull resistance.

    If anyone else has their experiences to share, please let us know.
