AFK Penalty in Private Matches

Why is the afk penalty being applied to players in private matches? The leaver penalty doesn't apply so why should the afk penalty? In a private match things are different than a public match and therefore shouldn't be subjected to the same penalties and such. The people in your group don't care if something comes up and you gotta afk it real quick.

Please take away the afk penalty for private matches. It should function the same as the leaver penalty.

    Yeah, we were seeing how well we could duo CSE and at the end of the event the other players got hit with AFK penalties. They were kind enough to fill in the match so we could start it and then stayed to watch but why should they be hit with AFK penalty. its a private match. like the OP says its not subjected to leaver penalty. looks like cryptic broke something yet again.

    AFK penalties in private matches? That's wrong. :(


    If you are AFK in a private match, there is a 99.9% chance that person is genuinely AFK.

    Because it treats the private match the same in if a player is afk and possibly attempting to leech or cause grief for the others, than it will penalize them accordingly. It's not like private groups weren't causing grief at times similar to public ones.

    As far as I know, the AFK penalty is specified per map, not per type of play. This causes people to get the penalty, private or pug.

    Exactly, it will penalize public or private if it assumes they are afk.

    No one is disputing that the system in place affects private matches. What we are saying is that it shouldn't affect private matches in the same way that the leaver penalty doesn't affect private matches. There can't have been serious problems with premade leeches because normally if someone leeched the whole match (without reason) and that you didn't know then you ignore them and get them kicked from whatever channel you picked them up in. Pug leeches are exponentially more prominent than premades.

    I thought when they added the AFK penalty that they said they wouldn't add it for private queues. :confused:

    Private match should not have the penalty. We use them for training new players and often one of the team is watching them and not doing anything but giving them advice. You cannot be fighting and able to see everything they do at the same time and they could also be in watch what we do mode and not helping.

    Yeah, I hope that the afk penalty being added to private games was a mere oversight on Cryptic's part since they're big on releasing untested features/content and now that this thread has been made that they will correct this issue.

    I agree, but I never said it was perfect.

    The team leader should be able to decide whether or not to apply the AFK penalty to their match. When creating the instance, simply check/uncheck a box for "afk penalty." You would have it on for semi-random PESTF teams but off for fleet training actions, etc.
