Dev Question: Old Reps Revamp

This is a question directed at the devs, so until one of the team visits with an answer, let's try to keep the speculation and "I wonder, too" posts to a minimum.

Since the response to the revised Dyson reputation system has been basically nothing but positive to the point that a few people have gone to the trouble of growing a third arm so they can give it three thumbs up, I ask: "If Cryptic is going to stick to its promise of revamping the old systems based on this kind of positive feedback, and assuming this feedback remains consistently positive, how long should we expect that process to take? When will your 'feedback analysis' period conclude and, assuming you get the go-ahead, will the changes be released all at once or one reputation block at a time?"

I am by no means expecting a direct answer with a clearly laid out timetable and a specific date or date or anything, but having some kind of answer is... probably better than just wondering for several months.

I would be satisfied with with a "Maybe another month of feedback collection and... I don't really know how long it would take to revamp systems or how we'd release them. I'd have to ask one of the (appropriate department) staff. Stay tuned to GNN and release notes for more details as they become available."

Basically, whatever you guys over at Cryptic can tell us would be great, even if you can't say much.

After the Anniversary event at the earliest. The devs are focused on the Winter event, then the anniversary event so something as extensive as the reputation revamp will take time. They have to add daily missions, create rep boxes, and alter various stats and then make sure it is all working properly before we get a hold of it.

I agree the new system is way better and the revamp should happen as soon as possible.

Why not, you save time, recourses and marks.

Time I have, resources in this game are abundant, marks I can agree with but really, the Rep system is a better crafting model than the current crafting system in game. That and I don't want to blow through tier's so fast it's as if they are not even there, on the same token not everyone is obsessed with Mk XII only, I don't like the idea of having to wait till tier 5 to complete a set just to find out I'm no interested in how it plays. I use Mk X gear as a test set to know whether or not it works well with my play style. Granted it makes little sense to use multiple large amounts of marks/resources to get different levels of the same set but a small tweak can remedy this issue as compared to completely demolishing what we have.

You can always go on Tribble and try out the sets for free. Currently all the items for the Nukara Reputation and Dyson Reputation are available. With the Dyson Reputation at Drozana and the Nukara Reputation at DS9.

Your sentiment on this issue appears to be in the extreme minority, but it is important for the Devs to know this isn't a one sided issue. A month long wait is still too long for most of us, but thank you for voicing your concern.

This is a valid criticism and one I share. Hopefully this could be fixed to your satisfaction by simply allowing players to view all the content of a store before unlocking the ability to buy the items. That would work for me, anyway.
Hopefully that feature will be added some day. (Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, Devs!)

Now I know it can be really tempting for everybody to chime in and start a discussion about the merits of the current system and the new "prototype" model they've setup for the Dyson Sphere, but that would be better done in separate thread. In fact... let me go do that.

I implore the community to keep this thread as sparse as possible until a Dev shows up and really gives us something to talk, celebrate, wildly speculate, or throw tantrums about.

what extensive revamp? You take the dyson rep, change the names to "romulan" and Omega, and NUkara and you post it, 30 days, tops....

Only after they feel that enough players have ground out t5 reps on a couple alts using the double rep xp they got with their main which is most likely t5 in most if not all reps by now anyways.
Personally just finished off t5 in Omega/Nuk/Rom on 4 toons and workin t5 Dyson on 3.
Im not rollin another alt for an "easier" grind that Ive done 4 other times.
I really dont get how people can have 20+ toons AND play them all....

Simple... some are just for DOffing :) With several mule toons, you can gather quite a sizeable amount of not only Dilithium, but other things as well. (EC's, BOffs, crafting materials, contraband, various loot items, etc.)

Of course, I don't run all my toons through the reputation grinder... only the ones I have the most fun playing.

I'm guessing Cryptic might be hesitant to change the old rep to the new requirements of just EC, XP and marks as some people will have already stockpiled the other ingredients needed to progress the rep.

I propose that the choice of whether to use the old style rep projects or the new Dyson style rep projects falls to the player.

This could be accomplished with a short, low requirement rep project tied to just that rep track.

EG - you have stockpiled everything for the Omega rep on character A, but want to use Dyson style rep for their Romulan rep, you run a Romulan Rep project that makes all following Romulan rep projects follow the Dyson rep formula and carry on with the Omega as normal.

I was concerned with the new rep being too easy but i really like the dyson rep and actually came on the forums to find out if the were going ahead with the revamp and when the would occur.

I have completed all the reps on 2/11 toons and am dreading the uphill climb for the remainder, even with the xp boost. i know i dont need to do all on each but it feels incomplete otherwise, but certainly would like the traits and abilities that come with them all.

the new rep system is faster and less resource intensive. the amount of time and resources would certainly discourage a silver player with a 10mil ec cap to be able to buy all the commodities and consumables required to advance each day.
