I recently rolled my first KDF char, a Lethean engineer named Brokosh, and was wondering if anyone had any input on what ship to eventually get and how to build it.
On my Fed main I run a Fleet Avenger beamboat with aux2batt (current build under USS Andraste in my sig), and I'd like to get something that flies similarly (been eying the Fleet Tor'Kaht). I'm willing to experiment though.

Normally I would suggest BoPs to get a good KDF feel for the strengths and weakness of the faction first.
Since you are playing an Engineer possibly Battle Cruisers, Carriers and Raptors instead.
Wish the KDF had leathean ships to choose from as well.
I currently have three engineers on the KDF side and enjoy flying around in a Qin Raptor, a Kar'fi and a Fleet Kamaragh.
Of those three the Karmaragh is actually my favourite since it has the awesome combination of firepower (I put a Tac in the uni slot) and maneuverability and...just doesn't die.;)
Ehm, if you want a lt cmdr tac on an A2B-able cruiser, you're looking at the Tor'kath (high turn, suboptimal for A2B), the Bortasqu (low turn, but flexible layout) or one of the lockbox/lobi ships (Galor, Monbosh, D'Kora), I think. Contrary to what you'd expect there's not a lot of KDF Battlecruisers with lt cmdr tac slots.
Or, if EC's are not an issue, the Temporal Destroyer, that could be made to work as a beam boat on steroids, I suppose.
Other than these, you're mostly choosing between Assault Cruiser and Star Cruiser layouts, but with better turn rate.

It's not bad, but not overly impressive either - it's just a regular Star Cruiser with a hangar bay, but missing 2 of 4 cruiser commands (including the weapon energy one). I suppose elite Scorpions would help, though.
Yeah, I've noticed the engi-tac options are a bit lacking in the KDF lineup.
I'm liking the Bort Command Cruiser. Another one I've looked at is the Fleet Peghqu'. Definitely a ship more organized around direct attack than I'm used to, but I'm thinking an engi in the LCDR slot and tac in the Ens slot running TT1. EDIT: Never mind, that's the veteran ship. Can't get that one.

Mirror Vo'quv. The eng heaviness makes it a lot like a Fed cruiser for the basics, but with a sci punch and pets besides. Then you can spend your lvl40 token on a BoP and get the best of both.
If you want something similar to the Avenger, then the Tor'Kaht is basically what you're looking for, similar turn and hull, slight difference in loadout and BOFF seating.
If you are interested in exploring other optiona.... Fleet K't'inga is a pure engi cruiser with 4/3 engi BOFFs and a base turn-rate of 11--if there's a way to make offensive engi work, its with that ship. Fleet Kamarag is extremely flexible, and very tanky, with a base turn-rate of 10, just an awesome ship. Mirror Vo'Quv can be setup like a battleship and flown very aggressively, but it only has 2 tac consoles and 6 weapon mounts so its hard to get a lot of damage from it, so you're better off going for a bortas or bortasqu`if you want a big slow ship. KDF also has the flight-deck cruisers which are very unique to the faction, and are very good ships for engi focus, dont overlook those.
There are also a couple of escort-like ships that are very interesting too, namely the Fleet Scourge and the Fleet Somraw, which are very similar but slight differences. Somraw has an integrated cloak and 2/1 engi seating, Scourge has slightly faster turning and 2/1 sci seating.
Mirror Vo'Quv is a solidly performing cruiser with pets. I have the Vor'cha Retrofit and the Mirror Vor'cha as well. Both are set up as light A2B beamboats. Don't have enough Boff slots in the right spot to make them full on A2B beamboats. I also have a Mirror Qin which was gifted to me a very long time ago. It is a pretty good ship in PvE. The Kamarag is a lot of fun to fly as well because it's like a k'T'Inga on steroids.
My Lethean Sci toon also flies a Mirror Vor'cha. What can I say? The Vor'cha was my very favorite ship in SFC III and my opinion of it here has been heavily influenced by my experience there. So far, none of the Vor'chas have ever let me down in any part of the game.

my KDF eng uses a Fleet Voquv, Karfi, Fleet Corsair, and Bortasqu most, any of those are good choices. If you want a more maneuverable battle cruiser you could try the Neghvar or Vorcha or their fleet upgrades.

In terms of less obvious choices:
You could also try an A2B build on the mirror VoQuv: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mirror_Universe_Vo%27Quv_Carrier
You might also want to look at the fleet Kamarag, for potential for 1 tac ensign and 2x lt tac: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Kamarag_Battlecruiser_Retrofit

Dead link. Thread was deleted. So it looks like we're not supposed to talk about it yet.
Looks like.
Anyway, to OP, based on new info uncovered today, do not buy any KDF ship just yet.
