Greetings, Captains! You're listening to Episode 151 of Priority One Podcast, the premier Star Trek Online podcast! This episode was recorded live on TrekRadio.net on Thursday, November 21st, 2013 and published for download on Monday, November 25th at PriorityOnePodcast.com!
Back from his time on Rura Penthe, James joins Tony, Elijah and Elliot this week for a four-host extravaganza as we put our thinking caps on and Trek Out the economics of Star Trek and how we can apply that to Star Trek Online. Although not much has been officially published on Star Trek Online since the launch of Season 8, that doesn't mean we won't be talking about the latest content or community buzz about the game! We discuss the Crew System in STO and how it can be revamped, the state of the STO Gateway and the latest patch notes to hit Holodeck. Next, we talk with our old friend, Simon Ludgate about the impact and effect of the new ARC launcher. In this week?s Community Spotlight, ChivarlyBean returns with a new Foundry Review! And of course as always, we?ll open hailing frequencies and see what?s incoming from YOU, our listeners.

Kill it. OR
IMHO, if there was just one DOFF, a "Project Manager" doff that you can slot that can either
1) heals the crew,
2) Resist hurting the crew
3) increase what the crew fixes
4) etc
What features would you like to see in an STO Companion mobile app? Let your imagination run wild in the comments section below!
At the very least, doff assignments. That is coming for S8 according to what we were told. Since it was never retracted I can assume that it is there.
I am sure Cryptic has an idea of what they would like but we are not sure what that is.
This makes me concerned about crafting, right now aside from the Dilithium "tax", there really isn't anything really worthy to craft, and sell on the exchange. So a new Crafting System would have to have a set of items that are unique and interesting enough to equip on your ship.
Ship Crew: Never really paid attention, wouldn't miss it if it was removed. But if they were to revamp it, I like the idea of it working along with the DOFF System. Though I don't think people would enjoy losing DOFFs either permanently or temporary though an injury, especially if it's a DOFF they use frequently. However, perhaps a secondary DOFF system that's specifically for crew?
BTW, you briefly mentioned about going back to Starbases to resupply your crew complement. I recall for a short time they experimented with that in Beta, and it ended up being not popular. Because it got annoying having to go back to Starbase after every fight.
Honestly, I'm not that fond of most of the ideas of the crewmen level in relation to the DOFF system. Except though the cap of DOFFs you can have in relation to your ship. In other words, each ship having their own mass of DOFFs.
That though comes with the problem of what the people that bought DOFF caps from the C-store. Which can be solved by simply applying the purchases to a pool of DOFFs that haven't been assigned to a ship. A DOFF reserve, in other words.

If you're at half resolution on your system, then it's time to upgrade, or realize that STO wasn't meant for your 1st gen dual core, and integrated graphics. I wish sales people would ask, "what do you plan on doing with the system?" Instead of saying, "Oh yeah, this will handle most games," leaving out the fact it will at 4 fps. It's the first thing I ask before building a system for someone, "Do you plan to game with this system?"
Lastly, is the privacy issue. People, don't be fooled into thinking that your private info isn't already out there. Any information, private or otherwise, that Arc could potentially gather, Cryptic, as well as the entire internet, already has on file. The fact that you're playing this game already tells me your info is already waaaaay out there.

these where ideas I posted in the controls section of the forums a month or so ago but it never got any interest so I never followed up on it. However seeing as it pertained to the Priority One Podcast question I decided to do this today
http://joshuahstoideas.webs.com/
True, at the same time though this is when all is said and done, a game. Compromises I'm sure had to be made. That and I do believe there were plans for the crew to play a bigger role in the game than they do now, but what that was has more than likely been lost over time.
There are a few things I would do to the crew system.
1) Remove subsystem repair from the skill tree and tie it directly to the crew with full crew being equivalent to a full 9 in subsystem repair.
2) I would make tac team, sci team and eng team scalable based on crew rate. When My crew is dead who is wondering the hulls to clear boarding parties? Zombulans?
3) I believe there should be an efficiency boosts to all boff abilities. Sure the computer can run itself but it lacks the intuition of a person behind the controls.
4) I would also give sci ships a passive bonus to crew death resists and recovery. Surely a medical healing sci ship should have the crew and the expertise to keep people alive.
As far as the gateway is concerned. I would like to be able to manage doffs and rep systems from it. Access to bank and exchange systems would be nice but I feel the gateway is on the back burner. When you look at the icons for the gear they have been using the improper quality icons for a while. That does not seem like a hard fix.
But what about functionality that can be used during gameplay?
What if - for instance - you're in the Dyson Battlezone? Instead of having to go back/forth on your minimap, you have your phone (or tablet) by your side indicating where you are (in real time)... and what zones are in your control?? In other words, a LIVE minimap (like it is in game) -- only, on a second screen?
What else would you like to see on a STO Companion App?... ... Let me ask this... What is Picard (or Kirk) imputing into the I/O panel on the captain's chair?... What if your tablet or smartphone was that I/O panel?
What you said reminds me of the many times they said they were going to make a DOFF system app. Too bad they dropped the ball, would be handy for the new reputation system turn-in.
I really don't think we need a Tablet for a minimap. If you have to take the time to look down and off to the side to see the information on the tablet, then you have the time to hit M and take a quick glance at the in-game map.
Don't get me wrong, having tablets display information while in a game is great. Fighter Sim enthusiasts, many use Tablets like a third screen for showing data for radar or HSI displays, that are normally hard to read or off-screen. But such a thing just isn't useful in STO.
The only thing I could think of that would be good if there was something like Bridge Commander or the old Academy games, where you needed constant information on damage reports while in command of your ship without having to get distracted while in combat.
