I'm not trying to be apocalyptic about the game, every mmo comes to an end at some point (bar WoW), I was just thinking about how an mmo I put extensive resources into, Age of Empires Online, had begun to tumble downhill about 2 weeks after launch, and it's been announced officially that the final remaining servers will be permanently shut down on July 1, 2014, and of course there are always people online to commemorate the end: End of City of Heroes I just wanted to poll the community as to what everyone thinks will be the "final gathering place" in a few years when the servers come down. Everyone from all factions to DS9? Each faction to their respective homeworlds or ESD and Qo'NoS? Drozana (for the wild ones)? I'll personally be perusing over my ships up in Qo'NoS orbit

[EDIT]: mmo got autocorrected. my bad; smartphone post :/

I think Quarks would be good just to drink the end away with Morn.

these kinds of decisions could happen today, tomorrow or 16 years from now. the only reason wow has outlived the other games is that it listens to its customers because a lot i read show blizzard listens to feedback and with content on the mill everytime, it is not likely to be ending for a long while yet. however STO could last as long as long as some of the internal department is shook up and peoples comments are more accepted then a design choice from elsewhere. people asked for more stuff on the delta quadrant and the team come up with some half baked idea that voth are war mongers with an insatiable desire to fight for the omega particles with no regards as to why. if there were to be content on the delta quadrant, add a few sectors from jumping through the gateway (much like the transwarp connections to GO) then place planets down with some random content. at least it is something to work off before building upto the omega particle hunt with a more populated delta quadrant space area and a good storyline as soon as you come through the gateway.... im going on. back to the point.

if it does happen i would likely be elsewhere after doing my bit.

I couldn't agree more, actually. Probably remove my armor and shields and run laps up to the top floor to jump down to the point of no remaining health, in retaliation against the loads of money I've put into this game--only to have the devs shirk us because the game either doesn't get enough hype, they're lazy as hell, or geko hates Star Trek and has no business managing any part of this game--or all three.

Drozana has more room than Quarks, and having the lights go out seems rather appropriate there.

Still rather than toasting my life away, or even lying down in the pub with a bag over my head (which really won't help), I'd rather go out on a ground fight planetside somewhere with seemingly limitless evil hordes storming through an Iconian gate. And I don't know about you guys, but I've always wanted to slay a space dragon. ;)

I don't see why they would fully pull the plug. Even if they where to stop all updates and story lines, and leave the game as is. The players would still have the foundry, and a host of stuff to do. Social players would still thrive too, the universe in the game is fine as is i think should Cryptic get tired of it and wanna walk away. at most if they where to decide to abandon it, a minor repair team for bugs would all that would be necessary, other then that, I think they covered all their bases for an independent game.

But I would ask, in the future (I know Cryptic has me on a bad kitty list but still..) should they decide to walk away, to leave the game to the players, give more abilities to customization for character creator and Foundry creation tools. (All options if possible)

...hmm, imagine a 4 foot tall toon with a Gorn head, a lions tail, Andorian antennas and human ears :O

or a Jem'Hadar Attack ship with BoP wings and cannons, then a Nebula class pod on top

    full customization ...(happiness) =^.^=

There have been rumors from Deep Space Exploration fellows, that something might exist out there.

I'm a gonna take over OPS in DS9 and I'm a gonna power up the thrusters and take it for a joy ride into Klingon space, get at least 75% over the Klingon and FED alcohol limit to fly a ship, hijack a Bird of Prey from the Qu'nos ship yards after releasing Tribble and moar Tribbles, head for Earth while burning out the warp nacelle's, tailgate Miranda's, do a fender bender job on ESD, crash into the Golden Gate bridge, get out and toast mashmelons on the flaming wreckage and ride George and Gracey off into the sunset.

Oh, hang on I did that yesterday..........ok, I'm gonna.........

At least you have your priorities strait. :D

With the direction and decisions they've been making I'll be ditching it when Star Citizen comes out, if not sooner.

LOR proved once and for all what was feared with season 6, Cryptic no longer has any interest in feedback from the players. Season 8 and the mockery that were the content polls has proven that while the art department is fully capable, the decision makers have lost all touch with the players.

Often times a single misstep can decide the fate of a game and Cryptic is rapidly approaching making too many mistakes to ever recover.

Games like Freelancer still have a large, solid following after ten years and long after the official servers went dark. STO isn't an infant anymore, and if it's going to last then Cryptic needs a massive shakeup from the top down and if it's not done much sooner rather than later The lights will go out a lot sooner.

It's not "doom" it's cold hard truth without the sugary candy coating.

I would probably be taking my ship at on one last patrol. That way when when it comes to an end, my char, ship and crew would be on an eternal patrol in deep space.

Going out in a blaze of glory in hive onslaught, better to die a warrior's death just before the server goes.

If you guys can run STO without your cheap TRIBBLE Computers crashing what the Hell makes you think you will be able to run star citizen?

I can't understand how you certain faithless dogs can even compare star citizen to sto. Star Citizen basically looks like Galaxy on Fire 2 with interior/ground content.

Eh, I think Star Citizen looks alright, but I think that everyone's expectations are a little too high. :D

didn't know freelancer is still going! its been 3 years since i last played single player. may get around it now i know there is online servers. time for a cardamine smuggling operation from that hackers base near that jump gate leading to manhatten space and onto new manhatten or from junkers to new berlin. make a quick easy killing.
