Other than grinding for the reputation, what use is The Sphere stuff?

thedoctorblueboxthedoctorbluebox Member Posts: 749 Arc User
I just got to thinking. I've got so many grinds currently going (nukara/fleet stuff, not to mention omega and romulus rep on other characters not done) that what are my priorities now when I login to STO? And the priority is not going to be The Sphere Dyson Reputation right now. I have many other reputations and things not yet complete on all my other characters. I haven't caught up to needing to do the Dyson reputation right now.

So that got me thinking, what else is the The Sphere useful for? I came to the conclusion the only thing it is really good for is grinding the Dyson Ruputation system. Yes, some storyline will unlock with the dyson rep, and DOFFs, but mainly it's all about getting dyson marks and commedations for grinding the rep system.

So, when I login to STO now, I won't be playing the Dyson stuff for quite a while, cause I got other rep and things to do.

It seems Season 8 The Sphere is really just all about grinding a new reputation and grinding a new fleet holding. /shrug What else is there to do with it?

What use is the Tau Dewa system aside from grinding the Romulan reputation?

What use is Nukara aside from grinding the Nukara reputation?

Every new addition to the game that comes with a reputation system is going to exist solely for that reason.

Subjective fun. Having something other than queues to do at max level for what is actually pretty decent gear is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Also, I quite enjoyed the storyline tease for the first reputation tier.. looking forward to the rest of it.

The purpose of a game is of course to have fun. However, I do not personally enjoy "grinding"(aka, doing the same thing over and over again). Therefore, the foundry is what I enjoy the most, since you get rewards(dilithium) but it isnt a grind.

Well I'm still hoping for another 4 featured episodes. And we don't know yet where the Dyson sphere will take us storywise. Season 8 does not end with its launch. I'm sure there will be some additions on the way to the next season.

Galaxy pack, TNG bundle *cough cough* :D

I also think that many players thought season 8 would be another expansion like LoR and are now disappointed.

I have a novel Idea for you and everyone else...

It's called "Fun" you should try it! But be careful, it is quite addicting and might even lead to happiness!

    To get serious...
I don't play that stuff because some Meter isn't full... I play that stuff because it's friggin entertaining!
I LOVE to galavant through the City in the Ground Battlezone and doing all that stuff, that I accumulate Marks and Dil (and subsequent filling of Rep Meters) isn't the target of all that, that is just something that happens on the way to Funcity in Hilariousania!

Sounds like you have been reading some of my posts. rofl...

Outside of using the rep, fleet, embassy, mines, and spire gear for grinding, the reality is that they cannot be used for anything else. You cannot use them to: obtain a new level, obtain a new title, and save the day.

You can use them in PvP and Foundry missions; however, those game features do not allow you to achieve any character progression. When the PvP reputation system comes out, the reality is that its only a prestige thing. Nothing more.

And have you looked at the Fleet Spire holdings???? Everyone in my fleet are drooling over those Tac consoles, which requires Dyson Sphere resources to reach the proper Spire Tier level to unlock the vendor...

So most of the response is, Season 8 should be played to have fun. But what if I don't find grinding fun? Then what good is Season 8?

If you don't enjoy it, don't play it.

Stick to what you enjoy playing instead.

Its a massive area with tons of diffferent missions that feels nothing like the grind of the other reps. You could spend two weeks in there and never repeat a mission. But sadly the forum enjoys playing the same stfs over and over and over and over again! Oh and dont forget collecting samples on new romulas! So lame. Cryptic made the grind way less grindy and everyone still complains. I gained over 500 marks in literally an hour and a half last night. Not to mention the new way the rep system works with the commendations allows you to get 5 of them for 350 marks meaning you could not do any dyson sphere stuff for 5 days and still be moving your rep up. Very sad to see them expand the game and make the areas persitant with actual random ecounters and people not even give it a chance.

Then you havent played it at all. Doesnt feel even close to the other grinds. What is a grind is playing the same borg stfs over and over and over again. THAT is a grind. In the contested zone all kinds of things are going on, including Voth incursions that happen in different areas with different numbers of enemies. All the other rep systems were unreal grinds yet this one is not.

Your guide to how to talk to devs is AMAZING. If even half of mmo forum users read that forums would be a much better place and the devs would prolly take them as a more credible place to gain insight on their playerbase.

    Great job

It's only a grind if you don't think of it as having fun but as "Where is my Loot?"...

As I said, I LOVE playing the Ground Battle Zone... for me it's not a grind... it's a bunch of people having fun ripping that damn V-Rex apart :D
Hiding from those Swarmers, trying to get to the next enemy and show them that Starfleet is more than Vermin!

You need to let yourself get involved in it... if you just look at it from above... yes then stick to what you were doing before.

But how will they know how we feel if we're not demanding they be fired for pointing out Abraham Lincoln In Space is canon and maybe people are taking things a bit to seriously?

    Yeah, I love Archabbadon's list. :D

I have to say that the only thing I'm even somewhat disappointed in is the story here, and even that isn't all that bad.

Wow, the pro-Cryptic drones are out in full force today. The truth of the matter is that all this "new" content is pointless and is designed to simply keep you in a loop for a long as possible before Cryptic decide to sap you for more money. Thats really all it is. The Sphere set is just not worth the effort or the amount of dilithium that you have to spend.

Everything in this game has become so much more expensive and tyrannical since Cryptic realized that there are players that would rather surrender all their cash rather then question or heaven's forbid actually stand up for themselves AGAINST Cryptic and the corruption of Star Trek.

Lets be honest here, how many people wanted f****** dinosaurs. Nobody and if you say you did you are effectively deluding yourself. Cryptic does not give players what they want, they give players what they need to feed their addiction and therefore keep you still while they sap more money from you in this pointless spiral.

So those of you that still have your common sense and have not been infected by Cryptic's nanites for repetitive grind yet. Run! Run away from this game before Cryptic assimilates you and turns you into a boring Fleet farmer and part of the Chinese Empire.

As Picard said "You may encounter people who have already been assimilated, don't hesitate to fire... believe me you will be doing them a favor"

Problem is, in any MMO they have areas in a play zone focusing on one or more aspects specifically related to said zone. When this game launched, people complained there wasn't enough content and you could do everything in a few days. Now that they've added enough so that players who want everything have multiple avenues, and more then one way to achieve stuff in game, that's a problem?
