Does it make you mad that you have so many skillpoints, just lying ythere since you are not allowed to use them? Why give so many points when one cant use them?

Anyways, what happened to old tree system with nice specialusations and much more to tinker with?

I am guessing you mean Expertise and not Skill points.

Skill Points are what is used on your own Captain for all of the various Space and Ground Skills.

Expertise is what is used for your Bridge Officers skills.

CXP is what is gained when doing Duty Officer Missions and those raise their applicable tiers for Diplomacy, Trade, Recruitment, etc.

If you are asking about Expertise, there is a very large cap. These points are used for all kinds of things in the game.

You can retrain a Boff and use Expertise to raise their level in the newly trained skill.

You can buy/acquire a new Boff and use the Expertise to fully train them.

Expertise is used in Fleet Projects.

Expertise is used in Rep Projects.

And yes, at some point, you will either cap it, or find a use for all the accumulated points.

I would really like to see Cryptic implement a bonus earn based on excess Expertise, just like they have done with extra CXP that can be used to earn Fleet Marks.

Maybe offer a way to earn extra un-refined Dilithium, or use it, in high amounts, to purchase items from vendors.

No, i meant Skill points. The stuff that i use to raise my own skills like weapons, Flow capacitor and so on..

Im not sure if there is cap but rather it is system that forces me to spend some to groundd where i dont really feel the need for all the point i have to add there.

Im actually interested more of what happened to old skill tree now? There was much more options in the old.

the thing with skill points is when you max out a toon to lvl 50, your skill points become expertise.

these expertise points as they now become are used for training boff skills and used in starbase projects.

the skill tree was changed with season 5 so that it didn't matter which profession you were you could fly any ship, instead of being restricted to class i.e sci flying sci ships/engi's in cruisers/tac's in escorts.

But any class could fly any ship from the launch? I dont remember that well was there different tree for every career but now, it seems that only ship makes you different in space?

I mean Science captain has different skill set of their own but then again, this was true from beginning. And if Sci captain takes Eng ship its all the same as before as i see it. You still can only use boffs allowed by ship. Then you have your own skill set. Class/career should totally be different from each other but is this true with this system?

With old skill set, i remember using cruiser in one tier and escort in another, they worked well and were effective. I was science captain and only science ship gives you ability to use science boffs wit cpost of tac and eng.

I mean, is it not the meaning behind different ship types that they are made for certain type of captains?

I just cant wrap my mind around this, how this differs from old tree other than having less options and some general skills instead?

they changed the system so that there were no longer certain skills, like all the energy types were seperate, and so were the different torp types if i recall. they changed it becasue they found most people werent speccing in other than some of the lower tier stuff since the rest were expensive, and everyone was putting skill points into space and neglecting ground. so they split it so that its like 75% space skills, and 25% ground.

being they didnt really increase the number of skill points to use in the system, they lumped all the energy skills and torp skills together and instead gave you the specialization and such that give bonus accuracy/crit hit/crit damage.

also, under the old system, you had to basically put points into the different ship types if you wanted to get the most out of them, so instead they just did general skills that affect all your ships.

Not counting my million or so extra expertise, I have over 300,000 unspent skill points -- even though I've maxed out both space and ground. Explain that one. :P

    Ah that's what you meant.

It's not rewarding you anything. It's just too much effort to program the game to *not* show you what you would have been getting normally in the reward window. If just because of some nebulous plans to raise the level cap in the future.
