Just wondering what it would look like. Destroyers with drones and standard and giant carriers are here in the real world and, admittedly, I've not heard of a battleship that uses fliers. Even the SCE books show that the engineers wanted the agility of the escort classes while still knowing they were going to be crowded on board just to have space for things like worker bees.
Still, I have to wonder: What would a cruiser carrier be like in this new STO with all the cruiser commands and all that?
And whether or not we'd ever see engineer love in cruiser carrier form...
See the KDF side for the Orion Corsair-class flight-deck cruiser. That's what it would look like.

Since we only have one other Flight Deck Cruiser in the game to reference, though, that makes me kinda worried. Doesn't the Orion FDC kinda suck? I never see anyone flying it. Ever...
I fly it and no it doesn't suck. They're one of the best cruisers in the game.
They a mix of carrier and cruiser, and the Fleet Corsair has good science ability as well.
The Cruiser half gives you Attract Fire and Modulate Shield Frequency to boost tankiness and the carrier gives hangar bay adds flexiblity. For a non battle cruiser it has a descent turn rate. It has a faster impulse rate then other cruisers, .17 vs. the regular cruiser speed of .15.
Good mix of science and enigeering boffs. 8 weapon slots, 4 device slots. Its a very flexible ship.
I imagine the Voth Bastion Flight Deck Cruiser will be much the same.
Real world wise, the russians, masters of war that they were, made a combo battleship carrier. It's called the admiral kruschev or something.
STO wise, there are 3 flight deck cruisers in game. Dacoit, Corsair, and Marauder. They're some of the best looking ships in game. I understand they handle well, too. IF CRYPTIC WERE TO EVER MAKE A FLEET DACOIT, I WOULD SHOW MY GRATITUDE BY PAYING ZEN FOR THE LOW TIER VARIANT AND THE ONE MODULE NEEDED FOR THE FLEET VARIANT, HINT, HINT, ANY LURKING DEVS
The voth lockbox ship will also be a flight deck cruiser. Pretty stoked about that.
In my opinion, escort carriers shouldn't exist, and I hope we don't get any more. A pilot's worst nightmare would be launching and landing on a ship in the dogfight alongside it. It's just poor tactics. What if your wingman crashes into the mothership? What if the mothership blows up and you're all stranded at the blown up borg time vortex until the next federation patrol comes in to blow it all up again?
Escorts should be gunships. Fighters should ideally be a science only thing, launched from large full carriers who stay back and use them as dps, buffing them and microing them as an alternative approach to the caster/healer role scis play now. See the atrox with it's dual hangar bays and twin LTC slots for pre-power creep correct carrier design.
The existence of flight deck cruisers is somewhat forgivable I guess. They can broadside from arm's length and probably operate a small hangar bay. I'm on the fence about that.
With a lockbox ship, like the forth-coming Voth ship, it's usually 15% more hull and shields compared to a C-Store ship or around 5% more compared to a Fleet ship. Unless they decide to mess with other numbers, like make it faster turning (which they have done in the past), in which case the hull and shields might be at a lower percentage higher compared to C-Store/Fleet.

Just as an FYI, if the Dacoit is anything except a tier 5 ship from the C-store, you won't get a discount on the Fleet Ship Modules. They'd need to make a tier 5 retrofit version in the C-store for you to get a discount.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Aw, sad. All the more money they stand to make off listening to me as a customer, I guess.
makes more sense for Starfleet to send waves of armed probes rather than manned fighters to their doom
That already happens. Haven't you heard of the Emergency Holographic Fighter Pilot? No one actually flies those fighters, that's why you can still launch them even when everyone on your ship is dead.

Admiral Kuznetsov, his* sister ship is the Chinese carrier Liaoning.
The reason for the conventional armament was so the Soviets could bypass the Montreux Convention and sail their Carriers in and out of the Black Sea (they were built in Ukraine). The convention basically said no aircraft carriers could transit the Bosphorus so the Soviets made a ship they could claim was a Capital Ship and not an Aircraft Carrier under the treaty (the classifications were considered different)... they could just put planes on it if they wanted to later.

My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug.
Cryptic should finally just give all the kids their beloved Battlestars so they can go on and make real Star Trek ships for a change.
Seriously this whole need for Carriers in a star trek game goes beyond me.

lol. still seems like a waste of space. All those controls interfaces projectors and just the space needed for the "pilot".
Skip the middle man and place the ai in direct control. The ships computer could control a whole wing with communications at the speed of light.

Low tier != Fleet Variant price reduction, hint hint.

a drone bay on an escort or destroyer makes more sense from that standpoint as well. since the drones require less space/crew to operate.
