It's not that special. I am sure there are people who are great with fabrication kits and can work wonders that I don't, but from what I do know...it's not a big deal.
On the ground, most PvE enemies will one-shot, or nearly one-shot your stuff anyways (especially Borg) even with the trait, even then, the damaging ones don't do enough to be worthwhile, and the non-damaging ones usually die really quick still. Or at least that is what I've seen quite a bit, other results may vary. PvP-wise, most people will just ignore them or easily kill them, leaving you without any protection and then coming after you right now.
Again, there are probably people who do better with them than I do. But from what I've seen, it just isn't worth it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Nah mimey is right, can't say it made any difference to my engineer to be honest. Borg one shot most of the time, I did say during testing the resistance needs to be higher but it fell on ears or it was considered "too powerful" as a suggestion.
Meh engineers get 2 great specific space traits and the self regen trait is pretty cheap off the exchange.

Well darn... I kind of figured that would be the case looking at it but you never really know what those numbers mean until you test it for real.
I personally find the trait to be not all that bad. It's not stunningly good, though it can be helpful during PvE by letting one focus on things other than constantly placing down turrets and such. I'd suggest it if you use those types of kits a lot, but otherwise, the slot is probably best used for something else.
You really need to have multiple fabrications getting put out for it to matter in the slightest. The trouble is that that fabrications are too fragile to begin with, and the healing offered by the trait is nowhere NEAR enough to offset almost any level of incoming damage, making the trait substantially ineffective. Put its value at about a +5% effective HP for fabrications (kinda) and you'll be in the right ballpark for it. Most of the time, if a fabrication draws fire, it only takes a few hits to make it destruct, and since the trait is a heal over time mechanic that pretty much defeats the purpose.
Now, if the Nanomolecular Architect made fabrications NOT DETONATE when they're destroyed, that would make it USEFUL!
Along with the 3 Purple Doffs, Explosives Expert, Fabrication Specialist, and Armory Officer.
Makes a huge difference when you have 3 Turrets, 3 Mortars and 3 Support Drones. Drop a Medical Generator on them and Boom goes the Dynamite.
It doesn't count for much but you get a second Eng to drop a Shield Generator on them too and they do dirty things.
Especailly if you combine all that with the Romulan Embassy Mk XII Fabrication Specialist, that Turret Mk IV with the Plasma Flamethrower really helps keep those pesky borg back.
Noone wants to play mine trap with me anymore because of it. When i have all my stuff down and i get addle-brained from the salt vampires i kill everyone, players, colonists all of them.
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!
I am Il Shadow and i approve these Shennanigans!

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.
Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.
