The Lyrical Trek Discussion Thread

If you watched the L.C. entry for LC#50, than you know that is where I made my debut in the L.C. and I do have one in the works for Q interacting with the head canon that is slowly being turned into a fanfic.

And that brings us to this thread. I am opening this thread both to discuss ideas and sometimes to come to get help with sticking points that come up from the Star Trek Online players who frequent these forums.

If you don't watch the Literary Challenges, than you might not know what I am talking about.

So if that is the case, than I will answer the question.

What exactly is Lyrical Trek?

Lyrical Trek started as my own personal head canon where my STO Fed Captain and his crew of Bridge Bunnies (Yes...I have an improbable Female Bridge Officer staff...) end up going into another Dimension via a rather strong Interphasic Rift. The other Dimension is the Universe where the story of Mahou Shoujo (Magical Girl) Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS takes place and they join the Lost Property Riot Force 6 in their adventures.

This later evolved to include my Klingon and Romulan Captains and the first showing of this head canon was in LC #50 with the prologue. The reception was good and people pointed out issues that I have since corrected.

As of now, I would like to cover events up to Episode 7 of Strikers ("Hotel Augusta") before I post to Fanfiction.net and link the story here for you all to read and critique.

Of course there are issues to be had when writinging any sort of Star Trek Crossover fanfiction involving magic, especially Magic-based Anime.

One of the biggest issues any can have is how to resolve two so completely different approaches to reality? Star Trek grounds itself in Physics while the Lyrical Nanoha setting is grounded in Magic Tech. This will be something that is slowly resolved both through research into Physics of all varieties as well as input from you, the readers and fans of Star Trek to figure out how to explain Magic in a Scientific way that Starfleet Officers could understand. I have so far contended that Magic creates Exotic and Virtual Particle Traces as a byproduct of it's use while bearing similarities to what the Q do.

A related issue is how would the Time-Space Administration Bureau react to Starfleet, the Klingon Empire, and Romulan Republic when they have never really met actual aliens. (Keep in mind, Midchilda and the TSAB is run by Humans from another Dimension.) Why hasn't the Star Trek universe got on their radar with the sheer number of Dimensional and Temporal Shenanigans that happen on a regular basis. How would a Type V Interdimensional Civilization with a paranoia of Science and uses Magic like it is Science react to a Type II that uses Science like Starfleet does?

A third issue that came up after the posting of the prologue is what are the pros and the cons in regards to both Star Trek Warp Drives and Magic-powered Transdimensional Drives? I have so far figured out Transdimensionals MAY be faster for in-dimension travel by leaving the Dimension and popping up somewhere else similar to how the Iconians and Elachi seem to get around. But beyond that, there is so little go on regarding the properties of the latter while the former is very well know and documented. This is something that has perplexed me greatly in writing this.

A fourth issue I am having is how to explain Midchilda's sky from an Astrophysics perspective. At most, I count like 6 planetary or lunar bodies visible and close enough to show atmospheres. Mentioned in series though is that Midchilda has two moons. I actually sent this question in to the Hayden Planetarium and waiting on a response back still to figure out how Midchilda stays habitable beyond the "IT'S MAGIC!" answer...which is an answer I really do not want to use as it strikes me as being lazy.

Beyond that, I hope I can bring a comprehensive story with this that has the respect of all who read it. Yes, I am aware sometimes Crossovers are written without thinking to the Physics of the Universes interacting clashing. This is something I hope to avoid with this fanfic.

So anyways, I would like to close out by asking for a request. You have plenty of time Artists but I would like someone to do up a Poster for the first entry, Lyrical Trek: StrikerS as the cover art for it to be put up on the avatar for Fanfiction.net and base it around the first OP for StrikerS. That opening is the Secret Ambitions Opening. I am hoping someone can help me and if you want to take pics of my crew for your drawing, I will try to help out with that as much as I can. (I can't draw my way out of Grethor.) Also, feel free to field questions and while I will try to not spoil what I am doing...I will drop hints as to the directions I am taking.

So, posting an update for you all and replying in my own thread to ask a question.

Would anyone be interested in me posting the chapters up in Ten Forward in their own thread for you all to discuss and edit using this thread for final drafting on FF.net? I can't get in the game (like some others) and figured to give the forums some reading material between playing around in game while I can not get in. ^_^

So yeah, let me know what you think of that idea.

EDIT: I am working through Episode 3 right now so I after I re-read and fix up Episodes 1 and 2 of the First Contact Arc (Ends at Episode 7 "Hotel Augusta" of the StrikerS Anime), I could have the first three episodes up tonight potentially.

Sorry for getting this to you so late, but I'd definitely like to see those chapters if you have them available.

From what I've seen on the LCs, this looks to be a very good story, and I definitely would like to see the full story. :D
