How effective is the avenger console?

Reading the description it talks about high kinetic damage. Is it really effective or is more a sales pitch? Most consoles from ships get over shadowed by normal consoles in the long run. Is the Avengers worth using? Have not seen much discussion about its console.

It's a fun toy, but that's about all.

The Quantum one can get to very good level of damage, especially if you tac buff it, but it is still kinetic damage. Quantum consoles also affect it.

The Chroniton one is great for having an extra slow once in awhile. Chroniton consoles and other damage boosts also affect this one.

Tachyon one is a pretty decent shield stripper, though it can't be affected by anything.

It isn't gonna make or break your build whether you do or don't have it. Use it if you wish.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Yes, it can only be used on the two Avengers.
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug. :D

so far it's the only ship specific console i have kept. mainly for the tachyon armament on the big boss fights with ELEVANTYBILLION shield strength

it's still just a toy though it does not need it

As has already been said, its mostly a toy.

If it was an actual torpedo, and not a console (stupidest thing I've ever seen honestly) then it'd be much much better, but as a console its generally a waste.

flow caps should provide a bonus to the tachyon beams, since they are designed to drain shields, and flow caps improve all drain abilities and procs.

If it was a actual Torpedo it would be like the Bio-neural Warhead in that it would take a weapon slot which is IMO worse then a Console slot. Only way for it to not be considered a toy is to reduce cooldown to 1 min. Or leave it as is and be part of a set with nice bonuses.

The console is a 2 minute cooldown attack. As someone mentioned, with buffs, it can do quite a bit of damage. Torpedo abilities don't seem to do anything. Same drawbacks and benefits as all torpedo damage. However, this console has a minimum range to fire like the Bio-Neural Warhead. If you want the attack to fire the extra shots, you have to fire at a long range.

Which, if you think about it and the nature of the Avenger being a Cannon-based cruiser, i.e. engaging at short ranges, the console is dumb by design.

Also, if the original target is destroyed before the torps get to it, they just sit motionless in space and do not switch to another valid target like other targetable projectiles would.

You also have only a LtCdr and Ens TAC station, so your TAC options are limited if you want to stuff other torpedoes and have High Yield / Torp Spread in the mix.

Probably better off skipping this console entirely. Unless you want to use the Avenger as a Torpedo Boat :D

Thanks for the infor, but hard numbers, guys. How much have you seen it hit for unbuffed, and how much when buffed? I can guesstimate how much it hits on shields based on that.

With Attack Pattern Alpha on, and 2 Quantum Consoles, the values on the tray shoot the damage up to 18k.

Damage seen so far ranged from a low of 4K to a crit high of 28K. Keep in mind when fired at range, they do anywhere from .8K to 2K bonus damage on the way in. For the moment PvE doesn't seem to target it them early.

I'm not entirely sold yet, but it's a fun effect, looks cool and is devastating against targets that sit there screaming 'hit me'.

In terms of replacing a tac console - no it's not of value. But a sci or engineering console, sure.

I bought the c-store AND fleet version for a Engineer running a plasma build originally on a tactical odyssey. Added 1 DHC forward, and dropped 2 romulan arrays for turrets at the rear. Minor changes to skill to accommodate CSV1

    The new build:

Reman XII Set; Elite Core, weapons cap

Front 2x Romulan DBM, 1x DHC, 1x Rom exp array, Rom Plasma torp
Rear 2x Turrets, 1x Cutting Beam

Assim Module, ZPM, Leech, Enhanced Neutronium (turn)
Enhanced Emitter (9.6% plasma boost), VATA Quantum module
    4x Plasma

DEM build, with Dulmar; FAW3 and CSV1 (instead of a second FAW)

Play is more escort like, forward firing from range. I went from an 8.5K dps average with the Odyssey to 11.9 (only 4 tests so far). Shield performance was on par or better than the Odyssey, although Maneuverability substantially better - not unlike the Chel.

The tachyon version gives -15% shield resistance each, so if both hit you get -30% shield resistance. The blast is AOE so it's really useful when enemy ships are in a gravity well. I would imagine if they would have kept the EPtE with spheres the chronoton version would have been great for STFs.

In pvp the tachyon version is probably the best one. I was in a team with three Avengers, and when all our tachyon torpedoes hit, shields just melted.

acctually this is wrong they well retarget another foe i have seen it do it with mine they even track cloaked ships if u already fired before it cloaks seen it done in the khitomer STF with the assimilated scimitar.

Hmm... There is potential there once you chuck more buffs on.

    Is the torpedo targetable?

    Yes, it is targetable.

A friend of mine launched the quantum VATA at a Breen patrol. One of the frigates had the brilliant plan to tractor one of the VATA.

    Hilarity ensued.

Saw something weird happen with the retargeting thing during a Khit Elite run. I fired quantum VATA at the second transformer but it exploded before the main projectiles hit. They then proceeded to sit still for about fifteen seconds spitting torps at the gate before (I'm guessing) figuring out that they were supposed to fly into it themselves.

lol i seen some weird stuff last night i was helping a friend do the last rommy mission where u fight selas ship at the end i fired my V.A.T.A at her but it ended and the torps somehow retargeted the iconian ship in the cutscene i was scratching my head at that lol.

I got a 35k crit with the quantum one. It's not useless, though the micro-torps it fires along the way are very weak. They'll chase a fast opponent a good long way, spitting out lots of torps.

Ultimately I've unequipped mine, because the 2km minimum range and 90-degree arc are incompatible with my point-blank broadside playstyle.

The console is a slot waster. For a serious build, you'll find more useful consoles to put in the slot it wastes.

I'll agree for a serious build its a waste, but I really like it. I set my Avenger up with all energy weapons and use the console as my only torp. Thinking with 2 piece Adapted set (Deflector & Engine) and 2 piece Temporal Warfare (Tachyon & Chroniton DBB), a flat torp buff and chroniton projectile buff can be very mean.

does the VATA console 'come with' the fleet version or do we have to buy the c-store one to get it?

    no problem :)

as for the console, I like it as its useful for a SINGLE target when on quantum mode, seeing as it shoots micro quantum torps (which ive seen do a least 1k - 2k damage (sorry no logs) and with a single target that is 2 torps every second flying at the target, then the huge 10k blast (as i tend to shoot a facing down, disable them with boarding party (2 or 3), or the are VM)....

the tachyon is pretty good for a big shield hit, as least from my testing....haven't really used the chroniton mode much, so cant really say anything on that.

I sort of wish it was a 2 min CD instead of 3 min......idk why the devs think 3 mins is good lol
