I'm guessing this is an in-joke by the developers.

The redshirts are basically cannon fodder and die instantly, just like in TOS.
And they are redshirts, not TNG era security (gold).

I personally find it very amusing.

If you use security officer doffs, you can call down quite a few of them. Send in the redshirt army. 5 tacs on a team using this simultaneously and calling down 4-5 each gets a bit nuts.

Try that out in Mine Trap.

3 or more tacs constantly TI'ing each other and activating Security Team over and over is most amusing.

20 or more guys running around killing stuff, especially if those tacs have a good amount of DOFFs.

My question about the Security Team is how do you get "DIFFERENT SECURITY TEAM?" I see them beam down Federation Combat Suits & The EV Suits. Anybody?

They beam down in EV suits whenever you're in a location that requires one, otherwise they would just die. If you see security team, or the shard of possibilities used on say, Nukara, all the escorts will have an EV suit on.
Any other time they just wear their redshirts.
