Advanced Romulan Drone or Elite Scorpion Fighter?

Greetings!

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I didn't see it in the forum list for the past few pages.

I've got a Scimitar-class warbird and, after completing the Crystalline Entity big bonus, I was considering using the Dilithium to purchase the Advanced Romulan Drone ships from the Dil store. However, since I'm going to be going to Tier 5 Romulan with her, I was wondering if it would be better to just be patient and wait until I can simply grab a Elite Scorpion Fighters hangar instead.

Basically, which one does its job better?

Any advice would be most appreciated! Thanks for your time!

(Just to add, I do not, and probably never will, have access to get Elite Romulan Drone ships, so they aren't really an option.)

Save for elite scorps. Best non speciality pets. Behind the JHAS hangar pet and fairly comparable to recluse widows
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

Go for the Advanced Drone Ships...they're cheaper, easier, and much sturdier. You can get them now instead of waiting to finish your Romulan rep.

    Hmm.

I'll probably do calculations for how long it'll take me to get to Rank 5 Rommie. If it's long enough, I suppose investing in the Advanced Drone ships might be a decent idea for the time being.

    Thanks for the replies, guys!

    That depends.
There is a channel called: NoP Public Service
You can join that channel and ask for an invite to a t5 science starbase and buy your pets. (of course there is chance nobody is online or has time to invite you so you might have to wait/try a few times) All you need is the provisioning from your fleet and enough fleet credits/dilithium.

They have a thread here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=876281 with more info, if you are interested.

Besides that I would go with the drone ships. Even if they are only the advanced ones. They do nice dmg, look cool and are quite tanky.

As good as the Elite Scorpions are for PVE, since the Scimitar has only 1 hangar, you're not fielding too much Scorpions and their Plasma HYT. The firepower from a few fighters in STO means nothing. The firepower of 2 full hangars worth firing at something is a different matter.

Because of the lack of sufficient numbers single hangars field fighters with, IMO, you are better off with Advanced or Elite Romulan Drones for your Scimitar.

    - They are unique to only the Scimitar.
    - They are jam packed with firepower and abilities.
    - They few you do field at any given time are tough, and have the previous characteristics to go along with this.
    - They last longer, stay alive longer, and with more experience, they perform even better. Most esp. so if you have the "Wing Commander" trait.

It's very easy to get them from channels like NoP Public Service. They completely outclass the worthless "Advanced" TRIBBLE at merely a slight increase in cost. If you line them up side by side, there is simply no reason to ever pick that Advanced garbage, they are completely outclassed. So get the real deal! Boycott sham-poo! Demand the real poo!

I like the advanced drones but sometimes they can just be annoying. Like in Mirror Invasion, they just aggro everything with their FAW, which, depending on the team can be ok or a total disaster.

I think if they made a hanger fighter that had [Immune to Warp Core Breeches] or [listens to recall command when crystal is about to TRIBBLE/cube is about to explode] ability it would be worth about 3 of the other abilities the drones have.

    Huh...

This NoP Public service deal is pretty cool, but, alas, my fleet has no provisions. Very small group that basically is just made up of myself and friends.

So, yeah, my choice is pretty much between Elite Scorpions (from Rommie Tier 5 Rep) or Advanced Drones (if I can figure out how the hell to actually BUY them, even though the Dil store is refusing to allow it)...

Getting provisions is quite possible for a small fleet. You only need T1 in science and you can start the project (to get pets or shields). You can also get other cool fleet stuff, like cores and consoles if you push the right thing to t1 and run a provisions project. t1 should be doable in time. Only as a side note, something to consider for the future.

As for the dil store: You find the pets in the special items tab.
Store -> Special items and Boxes -> Special items
The are not in the Hangar tab because that would be too easy.

If you found them and still can't buy them it is probably a bug. I remember there were some problems at the release.

Oh! You only need Tier 1 science? Well, that's a little more doable then. Still take a while for a very small group to get Tier 1 science, but that's way easier than I thought it would be.

Thanks for the heads up! Maybe I should consider that instead then.

As a thankless post, the only thing that is locked to fleets, are the shipyards for fleet ships.
Everything else just needs T1 to unlock the provisioning projects , then with all the provisions your fleet has, you can visit other fleets shops to get higher level equipment, which uses your own provisions to buy them from others ...

Currently that is the case for all provisioned items in fleets, with the exception to non-provisioned unlock project items :

Special Outfit (oddyssee, bortas, senate robes)
    Duty Officer Project unlock
    Fleet Ships

So if u can get the provisions in a reasonable amount of time .... go for the elite variant from a friendly fleet ..
These cost 100k Fleet credits + 45k dilithium.

I've actually been working toward that ever since it was mentioned above by the previous posts. My Science provisions in the tiny fleet I'm in are almost done, so I'll have everything I need for elites within the day.

Then it's just a matter of finding the fleet after that. heh

Once more, thanks to everyone who posted here. I'd have had no clue if the whole 'provisions through another fleet starbase' deal wasn't mentioned. Now I'm just hoping nothing goes wrong and I'll be able to get my Elite stuff.

So, thanks all! It's quite appreciated!
