ok wondered what people were thinking about on the avenger class ship model. I would like to also propose a new type of ship building for STO-perfect world to think about.
I would like to have ship modification allow us to mold our ships kinda puzzle like with sliding scales (left, right, up and down, as well as anywhere from scaling sizes + or - in size) from all ships. instead of having all akira class ships on one model, and another tactical on another. why not allow ship models to be solely based on builds like have the ability to mix and then scale parts (sorta like second life which I am not endorsing but I have seen the scaling and sorts you can modify models and items on there) from all escort ships, or cruisers or science ships. allow your players to further make Star trek ships their own and personalize their ships and not just their captains. I mean I am not saying allow escort ships to have cruiser parts by any means because that would be mixing classes so to speak. also not suggesting make available newer ship models til they have at least seen 6mths of game play. because I know the ship model developers work their butts off on researching, datamining to make models work and smooth out details on the program.
I hope a lot of people will comment on whether or not this is a sound way we would like to see STO progress without it compromising the actual game ... and the extra options i think are great due to mainly it does get tiring to see 3 -4 ships just like yours. opening the option to include and modify multiple things overall more options makes for FUN
It's not possible because of the limits of the engine and how the game renders the space avatar. Your avatar is a central point on the screen, and the various pieces of the ship are assigned locations based off that central point. 20 unit forward, 10 up for the saucer, etc. So, when you select, say, a Sovereign class saucer, and the Regent Class hull, the came renders these pieces and then mashes them together. These two variants fit together, so it is all good. But if you try to have upright pylons (like the Constitution) , and then underside nacelles (Like the Miranda), the nacelles will just float underneath the ship with nothing supporting them.
Not only that, but all ship designs have to be passed by CBS, I believe. Can someone cite this
Also, Kit bashing is bad, and it should make you feel bad for wanting it. (j/k)
Live on Earth. Work in Space. Play with Dragons. Join the best add on to STO, the Neverwinter holodeck program! Only 14 GPL a month.
Nice trolling. Especially given that your logic is flawed since the Regent is longer than the Sovereign model and uses the Sovereign skin.
And Kitbashing is bad? No duh since that ship is a Kitbash in itself of Regent, Odyssey, Chimera, and Armitage (they said Akira ). I rather have a new skin that was a classic looking Federation ship that wasn't built out of legos.

It's not a kitbash. None of the parts that make up the Avenger are actual parts from other starships. Ergo, it's not a kitbash.
It was inspired by elements of the ships that you mentioned, as stated by the developers themselves (though I'd like to point out that the dev blog didn't actually mention either the Regent or the Chimera).

Really wish it could use the Regent of Sovereign skins.
