Captains can now choose to remove the "U.S.S.", "I.K.S" or "R.R.W." prefix from all lockbox ships.

Additionally, Klingon captains may now choose "O.S.S." for Orion ships (Orion Syndicate Ship), "G.H.S." for Gorn ships (Gorn Hegemony Ship) or "N.F.V." for Nausicaan ships (Nausicaan Free Vessel).
Captains can also choose to remove the prefix from Orion and Nausicaan ships.

One of the coolest things I've read in the patch notes in a long time. Thanks, Cryptic, for showing us you still pay attention to detail once in a while!

I'm serious. I think this is awesome.

I agree entirely. I can finally GET RID of that USS prefix that bothered me so much. Of course, I am well aware that I do have to manually type "HMS Victorious" and "HMS Uplifter" into the name box. But at least I FINALLY get to have HMS ships! Thank you! :D

Interesting, I could theoretically now give all or most of my ships the DNT as their prefix

DNT standing for "Dreadnaught" (a guild i ran in SWG). it always amuses me that STO uses the European spelling of that word with the O vs the American with the A

I was gleeful about this change, too~

I'm looking forward to using G.H.S. for my Gorn General's ships, and taking the U.S.S. off of my Galor.

Now if only they would toss the artificial 16 character limit from the ship rename window, we could have some interesting names.

And yes, the limit is only in the rename window, not the game itself. When creating a new toon, you can give your first ship a long name name in the character creator and it works fine.

Star Trek in general has used the spelling "dreadnought" over the years. Most likely in reference to the vessel HMS Dreadnought.

I welcome that many players wanted and now can get rid of the U.S.S. prefix on their weird alien lockbox ships :)

Because we are talking about ships, the dreadnought class named after H.M.S. Dreadnought ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Dreadnought_%281906%29)
And with European you mean Engelishe..

I understand that. There is also this ship too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dreadnaught_%28YT-34%29

I have a feeling that ships name may be a very subtle joke.

I've been waiting for my Orion to be able to give her Orion ships a non-I.K.S. registry for ages. It's only a matter of time till the Klingon Empire is renamed "Thakolarivaj," after all.

I'll still be keeping the U.S.S. and I.S.S. Registry on my timeships. Still, this was a good idea.

Now just add this for the faction ships as a cstore item and everything will be fine and dandy. We are 1 step closer to moving away from being startrek and being spacegame. Not that that's a bad thing mind you.

Ummm.... The U.S.N. classified the Iowa and New York class as "dreadnoughts battleships". It's not a european thing, it's just misspelled/wrong meaning<interpretation>.

Think of the Orion Syndicate like Afgan warlords except the Orion Sydicate has charm, a love of women, better leadership, a fashion sense born from a BDSM themed stripclub, and really cool space ships. Afgan warlords are what happens when criminals become a corrupt government, with the help of an imperal power.

Well I can't change my Wells Time Ship from USS so either it's not included or it's bugged.

I think it's not included because it is technically a federation ship, hence must still have the prefix.

U.S.S. is still the proper prefix.
You may be thinking of the registry number prefix NCV.
