Clancy has always been an inspiration, and his devotion to realism and detail is something I've always tried to emulate with my writing.
I'm gonna miss him.

I've been a big fan of Tom Clancy since I was a kid and first read The Hunt For Red October. He's been a big influence on my Foundry missions. He will be missed.
I always liked his earlier works best, as I think his writing lost some passion later on--but then I always suspected (and I figure interviewers were too tactful to ask) that it grieved him so much to have almost predicted 9-11 in Debt of Honor that it impacted his writing. One cannot blame a man for that. And it most certainly speaks to the caliber of research and deduction he could do, that he was able to point out that sort of vulnerability before anyone else did. ("Echelon" also sounds an awful lot like what we actually found out about the NSA.)
He will be missed.

I can't say I ever read any of his stuff, and I'll admit, the genre he wrote for never appealed that much to me to begin with. Be even I can't deny that he was the one who defined that genre, and had a pretty big literary impact on a lot of people.
The Cardinal of the Kremlin, was the first book I read from him.I loved much of his work.
Rest in peace, thanks for your contributions to my imagination.
I wonder what this will mean for the Jack Ryan movie series. I understand they were planning to reboot it. I suppose it could play out like James Bond, where the movies take on a life of their own separate from the books. But I also remember Clancy's predecessor, Alstair MacLean, who wrote some really great action and spy novels, some of which ended up as movies, and whose work was largely forgotten after his death.
Well damn. Red Storm Rising was one of my favorite books evah.
Red Storm Rising and The Hunt for Red October were very good. Since the OP Center series he lost my interest though.
RIP
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Tom Clancy's writing, especially Net Force Explorers, got me into writing as a hobby and heavily influenced my early mini-fics. I'd be renaming the Yamato's cloaking device as the Silent Drive in his memory if I could.
Sail on, old man. You'll be missed.

Was a big fan of his books. Hunt for Red October, Red Storm Rising, Sum of All Fears (goodness did the movie alter it), Clear and Present Danger, Without Remorse, Rainbow Six (which spawned the awesome R6, Rogue Spear, Raven Shield games until the early 2000s).
