Nothing, they are just pushing this out to the public attenction because in about 2-4 weeks they're going to switch to a new lock box. Or it might be longer, I can't remember the usual time lapse is, but I figure that the soonest would be 10/17; I suspect that's going to be the new Featured Episode personally.

the presentation and the screen shots of the tool tips is a great way to be informative about everything in the lock box. though im surprised there wasn't a bit more info about the 2 elachi ships!
Thank you Soooo much for the "Exciting update"... that lobi crystals are now bound to the account, not character!:D We asked for this, and you listened...this really warms my heart, and I mean that sincerely.
After not signing into the system for a few weeks, I decided to join everyone this past weekend. I noticed several alarming things: (1) the items within the exchange are being depleted, (2) the game population has hit a slight decline, (3) only a tiny population is using the PvP queues, and (4) many of the ground stfs are barely being used. Space stfs went from a flowing to sporadic population.
When it comes to the exchange being depleted, I noticed it while trying to level a new science officer. Many rare and very rare items can no longer be found. Instead of shifting through several pages, searching for a particular item, many items fill up around two pages. If you happen to find a nice rare or very rare item, you will notice they are way-way overpriced. People are selling low to mid level items for over one-million ec.
Since I view these issues as a game stopper, I decided to temporarily uninstall "Star Trek: Online". I am going to hold off until next March. I am anxious to see what the next season has to offer.
I hope and pray that Cryptic will solve some of the game's issues.

You are probably correct.
Have they released any details about the next one?

DEWM?
Let me point out that (3) has been true forever and (4) is almost certainly because everyone is doing CC for the event. (2) is probably true between all content releases, and (1) is just ridiculous - to which items are you referring? Because a lot of the ones I look at have as many as ever.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
My thought exaclty as well. Thought it would still take some time till ship over saturation is reached.
Come on cryptic. Its time for customizable ship interiors. You just know there are lots of ppl wanting to pay for the "2409 decor - assimilated version"

I am wondering if the decline is due to people going back to school.

We have enough outsides, give insides please.
Did Cryptic change the pace of the releases, or was there a drastic decline in sales?
If they really wanted them to sell, they'd remove the proc immunity from the elachi weapons.
Yes, they'd be silly powerfull, but think of the scramble to aquire [acc]x3 versions.

I've noticed a dramatic slowdown in the announcements of people getting elachi escorts from boxes. Personally, any keys that I get are used to open Dominion boxes that I squirreled away. The elachi box just didn't interest me. So it's possible that sales have dropped off.

EXCITING UPDATE! As of September 26, 2013, Lobi Crystals are now account bound and can now be traded between all characters on an existing account through the account bank!

Convenient timing on setting Lobi to be Account Bound after you run several Lobi Store specials to get players to spend orphaned Lobi. It's this kind of nonsense, intentional or not, which convinces players like myself that we shouldn't spend our money on STO.
They are very nice. I been saving all them on my Romulan for later opening. First to get all the Dominion ones I saved up. Every time I get closer to buying a lot of keys. A new ship or outfit comes out. And there went my zen for that.

I agree. I feel more confident about what I am getting now. And account bound Lobi crystals helps.

I want to agree, but I think they have also looked at numbers and realized that they stand to make even more through lock boxes by not having had our Lobi segregated as much. Now they will have people vying for larger purchases and more lock box opening as combining Lobi amounts among characters, allows some players to get those shuttle and ship items now... with only a few more lock box openings.

I typically run one of these blogs several weeks after a Lock Box launches (started with the Tholian, and I accidentally forgot the Dominion):
