So, I had been talking with some guys about this tonight and thought I'd open this up to the RP community.
The idea is to open more locations to Roleplay in by getting a catalog of Fleet Stabases/Holdings that their fleets are willing to open up to the public for RP. This way we can possibly create a map to share with all of these locations. Each fleet could have an channel available for requesting invites to their Starbase/Fleet Holding.
The idea is to make this very public so its easy for people to find.
While having not RP'd in STO much myself, I've been curious about trying it out more. My concern for the use of the Fleet Starbase in inter-fleet roleplay is the continuity issue of all Fleet Starbases looking exactly identical - and being in the same location. While identical starbases in different locations is entirely plausible, it's challenging at best to see the tactical sense in having dozens or hundreds of full-sized starbases clustered around the space of a single system. Perhaps I'm looking with a very limited perspective on the matter; do you have any suggestions?
Forget the possibility of PvP, for so much has become pay-to-win, never to be balanced. Forget the promise of exploration and research, for in the grim dark future of Star Trek Online there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting publishers.
Even though game wise its in eta eridani, Roleplayers can actually change the location to wherever they want for their stories. Once Transwarp to the starbase is unlocked its almost complately forgotten that the entry is in Eta Eridani. Also with fleet starbases you have to be invited to if your not a member, just like an interior. So you instantly transwarp there.
I could see this happening, if a Roleplay Fleet hosts their Starbase as a HUB.
But I'm guessing it would be tiresome of members to invite other roleplayers whom aren't members of the fleet. So Cryptic would have to invent some kind of "fleet friend list", where those who are on it can enter without an invitation. That way you don't get Riff Raff invading your Starbase and disrupting the roleplaying if it was a true open zone.
As for other open zones, unless Cryptic designates one instance for roleplayers, afraid the best way is for you to use the Foundry to make small (up to 5 player) private instances to avoid unwanted interference. Aside from the limited population, at least you don't have to worry about the Zone chat. :P
