So the new Tactical Romulan Warbird gets a hanger added to it totally out of the blue - like wham slap a hanger on that escort.
So I figure why not at least add 1 hanger to all ships and those that have a hanger get bumped up to 2 hangers - seems reasonable?
I really am going to need someone to detail just how to use a carrier well as I still have no idea.
And since the game is going full carrier's online it better be quick!!
We have a new FE coming soon that will award a carrier - perhaps the next C-store ship for season 8 will be like a super carrier with like 4 hanger bays - spawning like a whole fleet.
Or I know - why not just have a ship so big that it launches 2 full sized T5 starships as pets?? That would be cool!!
You can call the game whatever you want. Everyone else does.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

We already have those...bops, the jhas pet and the Tholians have one as well all 3 have like 30K hull with more tac abilities than a lot of the ship's we actually fly lol

I am serious though - like I feel left out or something because I don't have a ship with a hanger - like I'm a old man who has not gotten a cell phone yet and I still use a typewriter.
Are carriers the new way of the game and I am just like the old folk left behind?

Look on the bright side: when the new Mission comes out you won't be able to say that any more.

Did you not pay attention to my post? They didn't give it one like that it wasn't q very good ship and the hangar was added to balance it out.
Yes I saw that - it just seems like most ships these days are getting hangers - what is so amazing about hangers? I don't know how to use one - don't know if I want one - it's scary!!
P.S. Was a carrier ever shown on TV or in a movie - just seems kind of battlestar Galactica to me?

The Kazon had a Predator Class that was supposedly a Carrier. The Akira Class Fed shp was also supposed to have hangers to launch fighters. We also have to assume that the Peregrines got to the Battle of DS9 somehow.
As far as the game being too BSG, you have to take STO for what it is: a game slightly based on Trek. I stopped thinking of STO as being consistent or logical when the Excelsior was released in August of 2010 and was the best Tac Cruiser in the game for years.

The ship got the hangar cause noone would buy it as it was quite lackluster.
I don't really see it being lacklustre. Perhaps if people hadn't compared it to Fleet ships it wouldn't appear that way?
Strictly speaking I think a great many starships should have a hangar pet or two. Most of the cruisers would qualify especially. Something like the Intrepid launching a Delta Flyer for example. It's one way to revamp the Galaxy IMO, and if ships like the Vesta can launch Danube runabouts then so should my Sovvie-refit.

I am still waiting to fly the Tactical Cube... Hardcore Regen, Inviso Death Torps, can shoot in any direction, shield dissapator, super tachyon beams, hit points in the millions, you get the idea.

Don't tempt them, they might actually do that if it would sell.

EDIT I'm not seriously suggesting this btw.
thats ubsurd thats like saying dont compare it to the BAR the bar has been set and it is named fleet ships (and some c store ships) all others just end up with you in tears
Well one could consider adding a hanger to the rom escort is a balance against the JHEC and fed fleet escort carrier. The kitty carrier on fed side just needs some balance tweeks to be competitive against KDF carriers.
As for flipping out about getting more carriers... the vast majority of ships actualy have a hanger bay or 3 and should in theory be able to launch some form of support craft from shuttle with built in boarding party to repair craft. We already have the consumeable fighters from The vault and thats what all ships with a shuttle bay should get a stack of consumeables and a slot to put them in. just more variety in them.

And yes it does seem like an after thought this hanger business. Then again the new design is boring and as generic as hell. I could design better and I'm not kidding either.
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo...
Technically a lot of the ships shuttle bays are really the size of the hanger bays on these new ships - the Galaxy had some huge ones - yet it does not have a hanger
I don't think canon matters anymore as we never saw a carrier in action in on screen - so technically any ship could act in the way these new "hangers" do.
I think the Fed HEC - was the only true "carrier" like ship describe in canon with launching fighters out the front and returning in the rear.
So really they could add a "hanger" to all ships.
The Scimitar should definitely have 2 hangers - the thing is as big as a planet - no good reason not to have 2 hangers.
Don't go all balance on me - when was balance a "good reason":D Just saying!
This is only the second ship Romulans have gotten with a hangar, and their first one lighter than a dreadnought. That's somewhat less than "hangars on every ship in the game holy pet spam, Batman!"
There's a FE coming out to bridge the storyline from the tier 4/5 New Romulus missions to season 8's events, official ETA is "late September" giving them pretty narrow window. Reward is a full carrier from, "an ancient mysterious race that uses subspace technology and may have connections to the Iconians."
Can we just add Hangers to ALL ships and call this "Carriers Online"?
Since i hate Carriers and Escorts equally, just adding Hangars on all ships would just speed up the inevitable. So why not, let's do it so we can go on and finally introduce something more typical for a Star Trek game.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--"
- (TNG) Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie
If a ship is a be launch a shuttle, theoretically it could have a hanger no?
Cruisers and Sci's could have a hangar. Escorts are too small to support them (i think). Could give cruisers and Sci's a decent damage boost. There are parsings of pets doing 5k of the total dps.

wel......
the difference between seeing it on screen and supposed to is a big difference..
the creators of sto, never invisioned carrier type ships in the creation of trek, (as we never saw it..)..
the guy at ILm designed the akira to be a carrier, but cbs and paramount and the powers to be rejected that.. and even had the forward hanger bay reskinned to not look like a hanger..
khazon, well thats all i have to say on that one.. (and once again, never saw it in action.. i mean i guess if were playing the assumption game, we could call the niagra, or the new orleans a carrier while were at it.. (which they were clearly not)
and.... perrigrine fighters have warp capabilities.. infact.. every single time i saw one on screen, they were usually bigger than a runabout..
while right now, i am flying an akira class, and using the hangar bays.. (not cause i like it, but cause im sick of getting complaints in stf's and what not that im somehow lacking in dps cause i chose not to use it..) but i felt the carrier system is not needed.. it causes balance issues, headaches, and is taking up all sorts of develpments time..
but alas, some of you are correct in saying that this game is less and less a star trek game, and more cryptics interpretation of star trek.. which is a shame, and why most "star trek" fans have left.. im not saying all, but im involved in a bunch of fan clubs numbering hundreds to thousands, and almost all of the peeps i know from them, dont play anymore.. most of the posts i see in those websites about sto are not friendly towards the game..
the only, and i repeat, the only reason i play, is because i ignore the game itself, and try to do my own thing most of the time.. pretending that cryptic's TRIBBLE doesnt exist, and i ignore most of the player base.. that, and the game is so nice in 3d, lol.. i used to be one of those players that said, the next season is gonna fix it.. or the first expansion is gonna fix it.. well.. everyone got bored waiting for the season (which still isnt coming) to fix it all, and their first expansion was a flop... oh well. back to my corner.. lol...
the creators of sto, never invisioned carrier type ships in the creation of trek, (as we never saw it..)..
I'm getting old, but I don't choose to speak about what the "creators" wanted - as far too much of that has been whitewashed into history since Gene has been dead.
I'll simply say what I always say: Trek was written by Hollywood writers, not scientists. Trek's ships were created by artists, not engineers. Trek is whatever any given writer wants to make it in any given episode, all entirely dependent on budget for that episode. Thus when ships went CGI rather then model you started seeing things like Peregrines being used - because no one wanted to make 50 Peregrine models and have to black-shoot them pre-CGI era.
And finally I'll simply point out that CBS had to approve the use of Carriers in STO. Cryptic can't just do what they want. CBS gets to vet everything added to this game: every mission, every uniform, every race, and every ship. So if STO is turning into Carriers Online that's as much CBS's fault as it is Cryptic's.
May I remind you that the carrier craze first started with the angry Feds who got owned in PVP by the Klingon carriers and who then begged the devs for a fed carrier. After the atrox and the heavy escort carrier were released, it was only logical that the Romulan fans would also beg for their own carriers. So here we are today with people begging for carriers and Cryptic satisfying that hunger but it all started with the Feds whining about it.

lol you called it true...those 3 pack ships barely sold , i think about 1 guy in the 3 fleets im in actually got them ..such a bust .
i think this is the first time ever they actually add a feature to a ship after its even being handed to the testers.
now plz cryptic can i have my full blown 2 hanger carrier ? :P
