Lets not derail this into yet another thread devoted to the galaxy or even a thread about how weapon consoles work.

I want to focus simply on how these 3 ships are very limited by their bridge officer layouts. Simply put the defiant cannot be an all cannon build. Nor would you use it as an all torp build. It could however use some survivability. The galaxy could really use the universal ensign to help with some healing through sci skills that wont be limited by global cooldowns or by some tactical punch the ship could badly use. The intrepid could use another eng or tac power to give it a little more of a diverse role by adding a tac team or fire at will or even a torp highyield. Or even in the engineering route by adding another emergency to shields or weapons.

I want these changes simply because these are some of the most iconic ships we have access to. These iconic ships simply dont stand up with their counterparts even at the fleet level and those of us that fly them do so simply because of nostalgia... not because they are good ships.

I would love the devs to at least consider this change on the fleet ships to put them more in line with their other fleet variant counterparts.

I don't know if this would be possible game engine wise, but would be really cool is if the Galaxy not only had a universal ens slot but also a universal console slot, that is you could put any console in the slot.

Well technically they have universal consoles not console slots. This only limits you from putting weapon consoles and armor consoles and the like from where they dont belong. However since most people run at least a few universal consoles from c-store ships or the lock box consoles this isnt much of an issue. Also if this ship had a universal console everyone would probably just dump a phaser relay or disruptor coil etc etc in to boost damage a bit more. So that wouldnt really make it terribly universal since everyone would use it to boost its tac layout more.

Federation ships have their advantage over roms. They don't have cloaks, but their power levels for sub systems are better right off the bat. In addition, warp cores offer better mods than singularity cores. They don't have gimmicky powers, but what they do have are useful [W->S] mods and the like that give you even more power to a subsystem depending on the mod. For a ship with maxed weapons power, getting a % of that added to another subsystem can make your power levels pretty well rounded.

A Universal Console slot may as well be a Tac Console slot.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.

This is true, but theres one major reason why this doesnt play into most fights, atleast in PvP.

Yes Feds have more power distributed into more subsystems. Which is an advantage in a long term fight. But since the cloakers stay cloaked, strike quick, and then disappear again, the engagements are rarely long enough for that extra subsystem power to matter.

I can lend a 1/2 support to this...

...Until such time as all 6 Trek Eras (Ent, ToS, TMP, TNG, Voy, DS9) have their "iconic, hero ship" available at T5 endgame...

Since this is not the case, I see Cryptic's belief that if you want the "iconic hero ships they'll bother putting into the game", you have to take a hit in the BOff slotting - particularly ensign level. You want a "better BOffed" ship - invest in a non-iconic ship (like us Ent/TOS fans have to)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

To rob a line: [quote: Mariemaia Kushrenada] Forum Posting is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever. However, opinions will change upon the reading of my post.[/quote]

Yes but the 3 ships Ive posted about ARE available at end game. They just arent very good. As far as Ent, ToS and TMP goes those ships are much older than the 3 Ive posted about so I can see from a storyline standpoint why they shouldn't be given an end game variant. But I mean the excelsior is a better and stronger ship than the galaxy and its much much older.

The Galaxy is supposed to be one of the most versatile ships ever made... its clearly not in sto.

The defiant is supposed to be the testbed for every federation escort that has followed. It stands to reason in 20-30 years it would have some of the upgrades and changes that its testing brought to the other ships.

The intrepid spent 7 years on the wrong side of galaxy proving it was a bad-TRIBBLE. In this game its one of the weakest and least used sci ships.

Its amazing that Starfleet exists. I mean the best BOFF officer setup is on escort ships. Huh does that make sense. Then TNG - DS9 and Voyager should of all used escorts only then during their war periods. ALL Fed crusiers need to be revamped on the Bridge. Especially Fleet and Battle crusiers. Example The Tactical Odyssey Crusier. They took out 2 of its consoles so you gotta buy 2 ships to get them back. LT Com is the best your going to get on a slow base turn ship thats the biggest ship in Starfleet. Odyssey Tactical Cruiser with a lousy tact setup.

Now Fleet Dreadnought Cruiser (Galaxy) Four tact spots but a LT Com. gotta make you say huh????. Yeah its got eng boffs to protect. But like in any fight. You can roll up in a ball and be safe but if you got no offense. Well then your just a big fat ship going to respawn at the shipyard with repair units from shipyard at ESD

Most of All missions in Starfleet were pvp. Right? So why should the be any different. If this was Battle of Wolf 359 with the bridge setup we have now on cruisers, I think the junkyard would have 3 times the ships in it.
