honestly prefer engi as a healer...you can only heal other most efficently when you are yourself out of perril.

in PVP teams tend to focus one ship, which gets healed heavily then turn instantly onto the healer. if the healer had all heals spend on the target he is basically dead. an engi has sufficent self heal go dish out ALL his grp heals and still have enough left for himself.

as a science you get 2 dmg mitigation abilities (science fleet, and the resistance field which needs proximity)

anyway the ship choice is simple: starting by the starcruiser (and its mirror variant) up to the recluse which is considered the best support/heal ship in pvp.

Go with your first thought. Despite the way cryptic present the classess and ships science is only for healing on the ground.

In space an Enginear in a cruiser with a lt.Com science slot beats anything else as a pure healing boat.

    @baudl & @pwstolemyname

I was thinking that but i post in pvp build thread: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=427091&page=90 and here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=850391

In both thread i understood (maybe i was wrong) people said that eng in real pvp as healer is death weight

My new sci captain is in level 5 i can delete and create my eng as my first intention... please someone can clarify the ideas...

    - Eng as a healer in pvp are work fine?

As i already mentioned in the other thread, it depends on how you want to fly it. For all these ships there are builds in dontdrunikimshoot's thread.

Since your starting out, just try a sci ship and then a cruiser while leveling, see which one you like better. Feel free to join pvp boot camp, and you ll get a through introduction to pvp space healing.

as a sci healer you can go:

    a) cruiser: starcruiser, Mirror assault cruiser (should only be a few 100k ec from exchange) for RA and any of the oddy's for VA. sci is great, tac is great, eng is maybe ok, tons of healing coming from all of them. Fleet cruisers can work to, just stay clear of the galaxy, and maybe excelsior for primary healing.

    b) carrier Atrox (ra), or Recluse (i know its expensive but it is the best healer in game, period)

    c) Sci-ship: nebula (ra) or deep-space sci vessel, probably a few fleet models i m forgetting.

Each has its own flavor. but the gear required (besides the hangar pets) is interchangeable. With a primary function healer, you can still go various routes for your secondary function. Either cc (pets or sci skills) or spam cleaning (cruiser beam boat, sci torp boats).

and yes in space eng healers are dead weight. They do no damage worth a damn, and without being shot at they can't even use their self only heals. If there is an eng simply ignore it, and score some kills. They are tanks as in self heal only, which does not help you team. Sci has lower healing numbers overall, but can assist your team with kills. Sub Nuc rules all other skills. Never have there been teams in the history of STO with more then one engie max on their team. Yet 5 man sci teams were common and are on the unofficial ban list because sci captains just rock that hard in pvp.

In the end go with what makes you happy. Seeing that you already have two engies and start from scratch, I gave you my opinion. But as you can see, as far as ship choices (and builds) are concerened healers are pretty much the same no matter the captain class.

i'm not so convinced on the "deadweight" argument, rather then having a team with one subnuke shorter than the other.

Ok first off. Sub nuke is fantastic. I love it. But it isnt for heeling. The question being asked is who makes the best healer and it isnt a science captain in a science ship. End of question.

Now wether a dedicated healing ship is a worthy use of a spot on a team is another question entirly. One I would answer no.

Why is an enginear a better healer then a science captain?

Science captains get no inate healing abilities. They get two damage resistance buffs, good ones cirtainly, but one requires your team stay in a bubble and the other does not stack with itself. If some one else is running the same science fleet buff at the same time you get no benefit.

Enginearing captains also get a team wide resistance buff that does not stack. But insted of a bubble they get power managment abilities. why does that matter? There are three kinds of heals in sto. Those that are not effected by your power levels but prevent running tac team. those that run off of auxilery power and that which runs off of shield power (extend shields).

Enginears can most easily over cap both those power levels at once and so most easily heal. futher more they dont have to run minimum weapons and engine power to do it.

A dead healer is a useless healer, so running with no engine power and thus no defence is a bad idea, having mirical worker is also a very good thing as when the oposing team switches to firing on the healer because they couldnt kill the escort with extend shields on it the enginear has an extra second to recharge those heals he was putting on others and use it on himself.

I must disagree. This game is all about resists when it comes to healing. It's not about simply repairing their hull and shields but throwing effect heals that add resists to shields and hull. How does someone stay alive during an assault? Resists. Why is AuxSiF more important than ET? ET has no resists. Why is TSS used more to shield heal than ST? ST has no resists. Now they have there place in a healers arsenal for clears but not the main line of defense.

And I've seen science captains do incredible healing out of science ships. Nebula, Vesta, WELLS.

As for who is better I would have to say it depends entirely on the situation and group make up. Ever heard the old saying "A great Offense leads towards a good defense".

Killing quickly means less of a struggle to heal.

Also both Engineering and Science Team interfere with Tac Team. But your right that the resists make the other heals far superior too. Although I very much like to have a Sci Team in PVP incase somebody uses something on you that needs to be removed.

@ekxib could you please use DeepSkyBlue over Blue as it's much easier to read on a black background. It's 2 down on the colour chart.

Thanks to all of you for your recomendations (incluiding the color font jeje)

    I try to resume all:

-Engineer: good healer, good defense, poor dps against other people (but i can read in other articles: Engineer can hit against other people susteined fire for his transfer power rate). Ships recommend: Ody and star cruiser

-Science: good defense, good debuffer, medium healer
    Ships recommend: Atrox and Recluse

I hope that information is agree... if i need change something please tell me

The Nebula (Sci) if you got the freebie is a good Sci Healer ship with it's Lt.Com Eng and Universal Lt. It also comes with a decloaking console.

The Vesta is of course the best possible Sci ship in the game.

Healing it has a Uni Lt.Com and Ensign for more Engineering or Science, it can use DHCs for DPS and you can use Shield Repair drones or Runabouts for more healing or CC.
