Strange Structures on Ships

I've seen ships with tendrils coming out of the deflector dish, and I was wondering what the do, what they are, and how to get them.

    Sounds like the Borg deflector.

    Is that what you're seeing? If so, that would be the Assimilated Borg set. You can get the pieces from the Omega rep system.

    Funny, I was planning on using it based on stats. What about the one on one nacelle?

    That would be the Borg subtranswarp engine. The ship picture I linked above is the full Borg set. Shields, engines, and deflector with the assimilated console as well. If you keep the visuals on, that's more or less what you're ship will look like. There are a few differences between the various ship models though, but that's about what it will look like.

    actually, they changed it so that the assimilated console isn't part of the Borg set anymore, now it's part of a different set with the borg weapons

    you can always "disable visuals" if you don't like the looks
