I'll make a few more specifics about the mission I was thinking of here.
This mission is in no way meant to be a requirement to return to the alpha Q.
Similar to the NWS event
- There would be 10 mission maps just like in NWS, or possibly even more? more than ten maps would be good this way it's not the same predictable scenario. also some sort of ratio would have to be worked out so that no one could get all fighting maps, or no one could get all diplomacy maps, etc etc. you'll see what I mean later
- A player or players would enter the event either solo or with however many others they want to do it with.
- Enemies would scale to increase damage output and survivability as more maps are progressed through.
- Not just killing enemies upon enemies. Diplomacy missions, malfunctioning ships systems, etc etc, you get it, would be just like a short voyager journey.
This is how I see the mission going
1) A random premade map would be selected by cryptic servers to start on
2) Players would interact with any NPC's on the map and attempt to beat this "wave"
3) if successful the team is transferred to another map, also randomly selected, enemies (if any :P ) would increase damage and survivability.
4) go back to number 2
once 10 maps have been completed the team would be successful in "reaching home" and would be rewarded with a title like in NWS. Maybe a special warp drive could be rewarded for beating 10 maps?
This is something I think is important to get right almost right away. While the OP was somewhat right that Delta Quadrant content shouldn't take away game systems, it's important I think to do more than just a single mission like that. So my idea is to do a kind of mega FE, that takes part of the reputation system and uses it in a long term exploration mission into the delta quadrant. None of the other game systems would be affected by mail, but the missions would be a seperate partition that could be done, somewhat like when someone is doing a Foundry mission. There could be a Foundry mission in the Delta Quadrant and none of the game systems would turn off. (Not that that's what I'm suggesting here.).
So basically it would be a new type of mission, a Long Term Mission, or LTM. After all the Enterprise would get 5 year missions at times.
It's also important to keep in mind that Delta Quadrant missions ares probably Season 9 or later. Right now we're just waiting on Season 8, where the Dyson Sphere is probably in the DQ and is most likely going to involve Transwarping to it and back.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Yes it is a season away, and 8 should be interesting. Yet, for anything that could involve new game systems, which the Delta Quadrant almost surely might have to have, it's better to give feedback early, so that if nothing else we might spur the developer's imaginations. I'm sort of big on new game systems as opposed to content, not that content is necessarily easier to create, but new game systems usually take more time and more ideas from players I think.
I don't think you read my post fully. I do NOT want it to be a mission you have to complete to return. That should be some other mechanic. I was thinking a mission like NWS but instead of continuous waves of enemies coming after a transport, you travel through space encountering different species with different tactics and weapons etc etc.
You would be able to quit anytime, but it was not meant to be a requirement for anything.
Also I just realized I took a huge assumption in thinking that the poll we took a while back meant we were getting the delta Q. But if we aren't, then oh well. but if we are, I think this would be fun.
I'm sorry but the way you made your post surely didn't make like that was the case. Even if you said it didn't count a Delta NWS, nobody would approve of having to clear a storyline just to get back to Earth and do their normal business.
Am I missing something by thinking being stranded in the Delta Quadrant isnt exactly a problem that would nessacarly be encountered by the.current level of tech in game? In Voyager it is said that Quantum Slipstream velocities would bring them home in weeks/months add in the fact that all factions have access to Transwarp hub technology. Idk being stranded while a good idea, seems very gimmicky.
Yeah, in STO, your ship would have to be half destroyed by the trip to the Delta Quadrant to be in bad enough shap not to be able to make it home under it's own power.

alright, forget about being stranded in the delta quadrant for this event. lets say your stranded in the ZETA quadrant if it even exists, no your in another galaxy. point is, your REALLY far away from known space.
would it not be fun to have a voyager style event with similar mechanics to the NWS event?

Such an event would take a lot of time to finish so that means you can't hang out with any friends or do fleet related content while you do it. If it doesn't take a week to finish, then it is not really a Voyager style event. Some people could play content without the chance of meeting another person, but not everyone. Either way, you are confined to finishing the event and not able to do anything else or quitting the event halfway through.
As someone else pointed out there's the Talaxians AND Neelix WAS left in the DQ Specifically to be the Ambassador for the Alpha Quadrant and Federation. So it left the potential for traveling to the DQ wide open as is technically travel to the GQ though that MIGHT cause some irritation with the dominion again however if we're playing with the Voth then I wouldn't be shocked to see tensions with the Dominion rise again. Maybe we can kill Odo in the future? not sure how I'd buy that but just a random though. Anyway there was obviously plans to find and establish routes to the DQ at the end of Voyager so it's not out of the realm.

So you are somehow transported to another galaxy. Being able to easily get back to the Alpha Quadrant defeats the whole purpose of being sent to another galaxy. So upon defeat, you somehow get transported to the Alpha Quadrant. Sorry, but that makes no sense. If you are sent to another galaxy, then it should be an ordeal to get back instead of being completed in an hour.
Calling someone a troll just because they don't agree with you is against the forum rules and is likely to get suspended or banned.

I just wasn't sure if you disagreed with me or not, but now I see, thanks.
and yea I would like for it to be a big ordeal to get back as well, but like you said earlier no one would want to be so cut off from everything else. any ideas?

NP. If we are to institute something like this, then I would imagine it would involve doing one mission after another with some breather areas to relax and purchase items. Maybe have a unique currency so having any type of current currency is worthless while doing this. There would be a Q power that can be used to send us back to the Alpha Quadrant, but doing the event again causes it to reset, but you won't be able to get the rewards again for the content you have already done. So if the first mission drops an ultra-rare dagger, then you can't get another one until you have finished the content. I see this as regular content so anyone can finish it. Just that they will be temporarily indisposed seeing how they contact the Alpha Quadrant. So no public queues, no contributing to the fleet, there is no other Captains to talk to so no Zone chat, and no mission content until they complete it or give up. Of course, other channels like Fleet would work and you can do the content if teamed up with someone, but they have the choice of quitting or leaving you behind.

If we had this no one would ever find me :P
I believe the NWS only rewards a title for beating wave ten? ( not sure I have never beat it )
but I feel that for what you suggested we would need absolutely unique rewards. Things like BOFFS, weapons (space and ground), certain ship systems.
for instance some items could be bought with the unique currency from stores in between missions. but BOFFS ( say a Tholian for example ) would be very unique reward for getting past a certain amount of missions.

Waves 5 to 10 reward an accolade for the first time beating it and Waves 7 to 10 reward an accolade and title for the first time beating it. Waves 8 to 10 even have an onscreen message for everyone that beats it for the first time.
