Dan said you would fly an ancient alien carrier related to the Iconians in combat... TO me that reads we will fly it in mission but not get it as a reward so I think all this hoo haa is all over nothing.

We'll keep the settings on stun and talk about the exclusive new alien ship that we are working on as a special reward for completing the new Feature Episode releasing in September.
It's already known the Iconians were destroyed by a coalition of species, what used to be their slaves, or conquered species or whatever. They destroyed the Iconians worlds 1 by 1, and ended up by destroying Iconia. It seems they used orbital strikes to do so.
This is probably the main reason why the Iconians try to destabilize the Quadrant, and make sure we can't make a coalition. They know they can't win if we work together, they already tried and failed.
As for the member of this coalition, we don't know who they were. Maybe the T'kon empire was involved. Maybe the species that build the com relay the Hirogen use. Who knows ?
I'm not sure if it's really important, no matter who they were, they are not here anymore.
As Bioware would say : "lots of speculation".
This is actually a really cool idea. That could even lead into the "Voyager update." Maybe the Dyson Sphere was one of the last strongholds built by the Iconians, it contains data on the coalition that defeated the Iconians in the past, and now the mission in the Delta Quadrant is to find and study (or gain control of) artifacts created by the coalition that defeated the Iconians.
We already have access to the Alpha and Beta quadrants, and starfleet is scouring sites looking for relics, but the far flung frontier of the Delta Quadrant is an unknown, and only the best and brightest (players) are being tasked with the search.
This could actually be good for two seasons, or at least another story arc, as we could then in the future use the Bajoran Wormhole to go to the gamma Quadrant to continue the search.
It would be especially cool if the story chain began with an epic best of both worlds style trouncing by a single Iconian warship, and the players finding some last ditch method of driving the ship off (maybe sucking it into subspace using stolen Elachi tech or turning the Dyson Sphere's defenses on the Iconians). This prompts starfleet and the klingons to redouble their efforts and send the players on a quest to find tech.
Maybe the Voth are the only survives of the past coalition, or even the organizers of it, but when it felt apart and lead to bloody war without the common enemy of the Iconians, the Voth became their more modern xenophobic selves.
My speculation on the carrier is that it will have a commander engineer as they've already done several sci com carriers and a tac and a universal carrier. I doubt they intend to do another commander tactical carrier and eng hasn't been done... so... yeah.
They could go with:
Ltc. Tac
Ltc. Sci
Lt. Eng
Com. Eng
Or if they really want to make it unique:
Lt. tac
Lt. universal
Com. Sci
Com. Eng
*gasp!* the first ship with two commanders?! no wai! Yes, I know that's unlikely, but they like to spice things up now and then. And with two commanders it might be too versatile to give it a universal... so maybe two lt. tacs or a lt. tac and a ensign tac with two commanders:
En. Tac
Lt. Tac
Com. Sci
Com. Eng
This way we sacrifice one boff power to gain the extra com.
I'm guessing it will have a typical 3/3 weapon layout, but they may pleasantly surprise us with a full 8 and make it the first cruiser-equipped carrier. If they do, it will probably be absent the typical built-in subsystem targeting. or they may do a 3/4 with the four in the back instead of the front... to be different. Could be used for mines. But this would probably only be if they gave the ship a special mine.
On the possibility of more than two hangar bays... I'm thinking not, with hangar cool doffs, you could be relaunching things every two seconds, unless they put in some universal minimum... and with all the complaints over pet spam, I doubt they are willing to take the flack over the most super spammy carrier yet, but you never know, and that would be pretty awesome, though I bet the carrier itself would then be unique in that it's completely unarmed with epic shields and hull and uses the pets to fight... or just one weapon slot fore and aft for targeting subsystems, lol.
p.s. to the spam complainers, you can go to your options to turn off the ability to target player created entities, you won't be able to tab/easy target mines or heavy torps, but you can still click on them and fire at will/scatter volley/torp spread/tractor repulsers/etc will still hit them to take them out. It makes it much easier to stay on the primary enemies, so maybe give it a try. I think you can turn off showing pet names and health bars too which will make it easier visually to track the primary enemies so... there's that.

I doubt we'll ever see a ship with two commander slots...especially those two builds. If they do end up fixing GW 3...could you imagine the havoc you could cause with the combo of Gw3 and EWP 3?

Didn't people say that about 5 Tac console ships too? :P
Change is inevitable. the game has been migrating steadily away from the trinity model and as such many ships can only be categorized as Eng/Sci/Tac based on the Boff seating. It's just a matter of time until we get multiple commander seats. (probably at the cost of haveing less bridge stations)
It needs to look like Home 1. Period. End of Line.
What is "home 1"? I tried googling it and didn't come up with anything. Wait for it... if I do "Home One" I get the star wars reference, lol.
Anywho, NO! it must look like SDF-1! The hangar pets will be fighters that transform into giant robots. In this form, they melee the TRIBBLE out of unshielded targets, and/or 80% shield penetration on their melee strikes. Muahahaha!
But actually it's gonna be a Glorious Heritage class warship with slip fighters for hangar pets. In the mission we must salvage her from the event horizon of a black whole and fight to rekindle the light of civilization by driving back the iconians/voth/elachi/whoever else. On the Andromeda Ascendant, hope lives again! :P
The Featured Episode that will be coming out pre-Season 8 will not be out this month as originally thought. While it could easily ship this month, we're working to add something special to the episode that requires a little more time.
You will start to see a few teasers about the episode here and there as we lead up to its release, starting with screenshot that is linked in this thread.
That kinda sucks...I was looking forward to the Carrier...but since they're working on the episode maybe we can get some details on the Carrier this week...

The carrier is the reward for the episode, so we'll probably get details on it when we get details for the episode.

I hope those details include a nice turn rate... I know, I know, big, hulking ships are supposed to be painfully slow, but a base 6 or 7 would be really nice. Perhaps the cruiser can have some massive engines on it to justify the turn rate or whatever >>
Also, more speculation/what I want without being too "out there":
Ltc. Tac
Lt. Sci
Ltc. Eng
Com. Eng.
With the earlier wished for reasonable turn rate of 6/7 so that it can actually move to be able to offer support with those eng abilities. Oh... with not too much inertia too... don't wanna be drifting around like an ody, lol.
Maybe, and I'm not too fond of having few tac or few sci consoles... but MAYBE
5 Eng
2 Sci
2 Tac
If fleet or c-store variant came out, it could gain a tac console to reflect the slightly heavier tac over sci in the boff seating.

Sorry, I hope for a science carrier. My Romulan liberated Borg scientist needs a science ship. Preferably one that is not hollowed out and that has a proper matter/antimatter-warp core. God, if only the temporal science vessel would be as cheap as the S'golth.

Oh god I hope not! Who wants a ship where you would be insane not to go a2b but at the same time gimping yourself a bit with slowing of fighter launch. Especially if the thing doesn't have frigates it could hurt.

Since it's not going to be a romulan ship, I highly doubt it will be anything other than matter/antimatter. And I suspect the devs don't want to give romulan core powers to some random alien species and then give that ship to everyone fed and kdf, that would be a rather quick diffusion of romulan uniqueness.
It could very well be science based, or even tactical based, I just have a feeling it could be eng since they haven't really done one yet and the devs don't seem to be too fond of putting out the same boff seating/console layout.
Oh god I hope not! Who wants a ship where you would be insane not to go a2b but at the same time gimping yourself a bit with slowing of fighter launch. Especially if the thing doesn't have frigates it could hurt.
Eh, I don't see why one would have to go aux to bat, especially since that screws aux and would take out aux to structural and hazard emitters and transfer shield strength, etc, etc, as viable powers. One COULD go aux to bat and maybe get some pretty epic awesome going on, but could just as easily not.
Like you said, aux to bat would be particularly sucktastic if it doesn't have frigates. One of the reasons I am not fond of single hangar ships is that launch cool doffs don't work properly on them.
I think it would be interesting to have frigates that do decent damage but who's skills are support rather than beam overload and whatnot... like hazard emitters or transfer shield strength or something. It would be nice to have support pets that don't pop if they get too close to a bright light. Or if they made fighters more durable/have a ridiculous high evasion stat... I'm sure there's some epic game balance reason why that shouldn't be done... but it seems lame that if you go into battle against a faw spammer, you will pretty much have no pets at all if they're fighters or shield repair drone/anything other than a frigate. Even if you can relaunch your fighters every 7 seconds, it's just constant instapop.
Side note: I remember there being talk of the devs trying to make a ship with port and starboard weapon ports rather than fore and aft... I also seem to recall something about the tech not being available or it being too difficult to make happen... but I'm not sure about that... so if they did manage to work that out, maybe this carrier could have side-mounted weapons? beam arrays that overlap fore and aft? Dual heavy cannons off each side? Could be interesting... or could fail miserably.
Yep, a player posted it was a "Voth Carrier", which was speculation (because it's not a Voth Carrier), and thus, one of the Mods edited the thread's title because it was misleading (and ultimately false)
