Tholian Thermionic Torpedo Is it even worth equipping?

I got the Tholian Orb Weaver nearly a year ago just after Christmas I don't really use the ship it's not really my play style but I might use it if I can get the proper build worked out but I've considered equipping the Tholian Torpedo that comes with it on my Wells class so I'd have

Fore: 2X[Spiral Wave Disruptor [Acc]x2 [Dmg]x2] 1X[Tholian Thermionic Torpedo]

Aft: 2X[Spiral Wave Disruptor [Acc]x2 [Dmg]x2] 1X[Kinetic Cutting Beam Mk XII [Dmg]x3]

But the Damage the torpedo does is less than that of the Chroniton Torpedo, it does have a proc 15% chance to Drain -15 Weapon and Engine power for 8 seconds so does this make up for the low damage or is it just really a Torpedo Spread III Light show? and If it is what torpedo would you recommend I have in it's place?

I'd appreciate any suggestions Thanks.

It's a science ship chronitons all the way for me but then again I always run a debuffing machine on my science

Get the romulan torpedo for pure dps

If Rep Torpedoes or Quantum/Photon are best then regarding Damage is the Romulan Hyper Plasma better or is the Omega Plasma more effective?
Or should I consider Elite/Advanced Quantum?

I own both and for pve/estfs the romulan is far superior to any torpedo in game IMO

For pvp can't beat a good old quantum for damage

Both need doffs to match to make tem more effective

But opinions will always be split as people have their own preference and will make up arguments for each

well, rep set is another story. its not about the torpedo alone, its about 3-piece bonus.

PvE rom is the best, omega is one of the worst.

    Quantum is second best

    Photon is third

    Reg plasma is forth

    Forget about trans and chron

I have no idea about pvp but I'd say a transphasics build is best...

    Quantum second

    Photon third

    Omega forth

Rom hyper gets shot down, omega damage just does cut it for shields and high yield gets shot down as well.

I'm an expert for information on pve torp usage, pvp...best estimate is all I got
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

If you are ever in any doubt for a combat situation, and not a super-specialized torpedo boat, the safest choice is:

    Quantums.

    Quantums.

    Quantums.

    Quantums.

    Did I say Quantums?

For most combat situations, Quantums are your best bet. You don't have to worry about the NPCs or players in PVP shooting your targetable torpedoes out of space like they would with HYT plasmas and such. You don't have to worry about enemy made Grav Wells or other assorted AOE abilities wiping out your entire stream of plasmas.

Quantum Torps are fast travelling, they hit the hardest of all "normal" firing torpedoes. There is no gimmick to them that can fail, other than outright missing a target. It does not rely on a proc to make it useful. They are there for pure, hard hitting damage, and they do it well. Give it a shield opening then send those Quantums in for a punishing attack.

A no fuss, no bs weapon. It hits damn hard. Period.

And no, the Thermionic Torpedo is worthless. The base damage is low. For PVE and PVP, just like Polarons, the energy drain proc is worthless. Even if it does proc, the impact to power they have is negligible. If you really want energy drains, you have to go KDF and do a totally dedicated build for it. But these Torpedoes, like Polarons, are worthless for even any Energy Drain build.

    They don't do enough.

Combine that with the very low base damage, Thermionic Torps are a complete fail.

Since I'm not tier 4 on Romulan Rep on my Fed character and can't be bothered to rank up I'm going to go with quantums

But If I do then should I Have Torpedo Spread III or Beam Fire at Will III as my Lieutenant Commander Ability?

It could find use in a specialist drain build to add another layer ontop and the THY version is a 100% chance to drain the target but can be shot down. I know how nice the drain is on the THY as being too near the THY practically shuts your engines down.

Otherwise as others say, quantums, rom torps/omega torp are best. It does depend on what your role will be and there's STILL a bug with the omega torp where it has infinite ammo so fires every 1s.

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.

Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.
