Small craft only questions / new to foundry

I have never made anything through the foundry, have no clue what the process even is (yet)... don't believe I even played one of the missions yet...

so, now that I got acknowledging my complete ignorance of how the foundry works, out of the way ... :)

This past week with the freebies being passed out, the one most of my fleet has been having the most enjoyment out of, has been the small craft we got. Most of us have never had one yet.

So, we finally tried out the 2 PvE's designed for small craft, and OMFG we're having a blast! We're even trying to organize a fighter wing or two amongst ourselves to practice tactics and trying out different roles and strategies.

We're thinking it could be a lot of fun to have our wings challenge other fleet's fighter groups from time to time too... which brings me to the Foundry.

We only have the 2 PvE's... and while they're both great fun, it is giving us some ideas of some other things we'd like to do with fighters.

Is it possible to make foundry missions, restricted to small craft only? and, what kinds of limitations do we have when making one? One complaint we have about atmospheric assult PvE, is that the ceiling is too low and we keep hitting it when we're trying to climb out of the battle to heal or set up for another torpedo run. Is the ceiling height configurable?

Also... from time to time I see a comment about the foundry being closed or down... what is the status of the foundry system?

For now, I'm just looking for general information. I'll start skimming the threads here to pick up what I can, and probably start pestering for more help after a few weeks of lurking.

Suggestions for reference material for me to look over would be appreciated as well. :)

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

Let me try to answer as many questions as I can:

    1. You cannot make a foundry mission that forces a player to use a smalll craft. You can politely ask the player to switch to their small craft but the player can come in with whatever he/she wants. You could always force the player to go through a small hole that only a small craft could fit in.

    2. There is a a height limit but its pretty big...you'll reach it eventually but honestly I never have. Note that we can't make a "atmospheric assault" type mission. All of ours have to be in space. You could change back drops and try to put detail objects to pretend you're on a planet though...but it won't be like the Cryptic mission.

    3. Right now the foundry is up and running, 100% for players but there's some annoying bugs for authors.

I have a question for you:

Are you looking into making your own Foundry missions? Or are you looking for ones to play. You say you and your buddies enjoyed the small craft missions, there was a Foundry challenge recently that were solely on small crafts.

Well, you pretty ruled out what I was wanting to do...

I was wanting to try my hand at making some missions specifically for small-craft only, so, yes, players would not be able to join with non-small-craft.

On top of that, being stuck to space only, rules out absolutely everything else I was interested in, so, that's that I guess.

I was particularly interested in making other atmospheric missions, or something else that involved space structures like the vault.

If I can't make anything non-space, well, I just don't see the point of making anything else, since we already have no shortage of space-based missions.

Thanks for the info. If they someday allow more flexibility, maybe I'll revisit the idea. Just putting it back on the shelf and walking away from it for now.
