He forgot to mention that you basically HAVE to be a tactical captain. No place for engineers or science in a winning team. Just like there is no place for cruisers or science ships.

No win scenario highlights the key problem there is in this game. Damage > everything.

I got Krik's protege on 2 engineers.. its all about the team.
We done it with science , enineer & tac's.

Nyah. That build looks pretty right. The entire point is AoE, and large amounts of it. And that's exactly what that build is set up for. If you want to act like you know what you're talking about when discussing a build for a very specific niche you should probably actually know about that niche.

You know, so you can laugh at a build because you actually understand what it's trying to do and what its failings are instead of just looking like an idiot.

Hopefully this hasn't been asked and answered. I saw something mentioning the KDF queues and something else about getting with a community of players but, is there a channel who's purpose is to organize serious NWS groups?

I simply cannot find that "community of players." I want to, I have a Mobius on standby with all the right powers. I've even managed Wave 8 once with a pretty good group but finding one happens so rarely.

There's a lot of talk of strategy, which is all well and good in theory but until there's organization, like on an STF level, putting it into practice seems to be a hit or miss (mostly miss) proposition. Trying to find a team on EliteSTF is a no go. PublicElite nets you some pretty poor players and EliteEvent is often dry as a bone.

Doubtful that a suitable answer to my first question is forthcoming, let me ask this: Where do all the pros hang out so that I can get with them? And I'm not talking about until I beat NWS. I'm seeking a more permanent relationship.

Do it with 5 sci, 5 tac and 5 eng. If you still think engs are wqually suited, fine.

I agree with those that think engs are not very well suited for NWS. Who cares if the eng can tank, while the npcs destroy the freighter. You want a lot of Damage fast to start chain popping those npcs. Outhealing the incoming damage seem a lot more difficult, then just popping attackers.

    1) The player you're talking to already has the accolade.

    2) He probably knows more about min/maxing ship builds than 99.9% of this entire game's player base.

    3) There are quite a few skill layouts that will have absolutely no issue with NWS.

I've known Silverwings for a long time.

He's one of the smarter players in the game. I love that his blog post includes a controversial tactic, it strikes me as very Trek. Well done to Cryptic for nodding approval (or apathy) for that creativity.

Congratulations on the blog post. Thanks for the tips. Ignore the haters.

I would like to see a single player version of the no win scenario that way everyone has an equal chance to beat it without having to wait for a pug to start

    1. I've been debating whether I wanted to say anything here or not, but I'd like to ask this:

So how do we end up with a guest blog about a fleet mark event with a shout out given to a player who has been a member of an Objectionable fleet notorious for leeching?

The reason I don't see this fleet anymore ... they probably achieved what they were after.

Acquire ill gotten marks under fleet X, donate to fleet Y, or rename fleet and sell high level access very early on and make bank.

    Quite interesting.

U know, with a name change you shake off most people like me.

Anyhow, just wanted to say I find this to be in bad form.

Research may have been in order.
    If I'm wrong,
    U know I'm
    Sorry. (:

all cannon build + replacing Particle gens with Lobi consules should work better I think ..
plasmanoic leech , and new elachi Rift consule are useful too
at least that's what I'm using .. same build on Eng and Tac.. you can kill your side and almost always there is time to help other sides

anyway NWS is definitely very easy now and only thing left in the game where you can get some fun- at least by doing record speed runs .. :)

of course ground STFs are not bad too :)

Soooo, am I to understand that eng and tac cruisers AND pugs are just sol if they want to complete this? Ok, well I guess that makes sense if you wanna alienate half the playerbase. Its good to know that my time is better spent NOT doing this misison. Way to cater to the ones who already spend way too much time playing.

I won this in an engineer Odyssey, against breen. It's not impossible you just have to know what you're doing.

Congratulations to the latest achievers (both above and in general). Yesterday I saw a group of 3 beat it then less than a minute later another 3. The Hall of Fame has grown so much in 1 year and will in all likelihood grow just as much in the next year with tac consoles and more power creep. I've been on a few runs to help and if I'm on voicechat interesting to see how the winners react (often with surprise like in that one above screenshot). I've yet to find a reaction quite like my team's first though :P.

The blog never says (that I recall) "don't bring X" or "don't do Y" it only says this is how it has been beaten. It's kept loose so people can use varying means of achieving the strategy without having to have c store consoles that require real money but at the same time defines a distinct strategy that a team can follow to beat it or give them ideas of their own.

There are definitely ways of getting cruisers and sci to beat NWS though I wouldn't choose to use them given what else I have at my disposal but this will obviously vary for others.

You can win this with almost all, if you have 4 people that can do there own side..
We from kirks_protege sometime team-up (4 of us) and queu-up and take a pug with us. He will get his accolade no matter if he's helping or suck TRIBBLE.

I got the accolade on one of my toons while beeing afk from the start of wave 8. If the team consists of 4 experienced players you can handle most enemies with ease. And that was before Dyson Rep and Spire consoles.

Thanks for that blog. NWS was one of the reasons why I did return to STO. I dont like unfinished missions;)

NWS is without doubt the most challenging PvE mission in game and I do really respect the first players beating it. I know how hard it was for me and my team to practice every day, with the knowledge of various tactics until we beat it the first time. Its still not comparable with what the first group did.

As it does fit on this topic... I just joined one of the NWS channels yesterday, because my usual team was not available for farming. As I did not find an explanation, what do the terms sal and shadow refer to, when somebody is searching for a NWS team? Thanks in advance.

I did take a side to myself. It only got ugly at wave 10 (as it often does).

And by the way, I'm aware. I am in the channel too :D

Well maybe depends on P2W, because every single PUG I have been part of doing this quest we always failed after the 5 of the 6th wave, we never managed to pass the 6th wave. Always the freighter gets destroyed. No matter we are targeting the ships attacking the freighter, those ships ignore us and only concentrate on the freighter.

The problem with pugs...they are never prepared.

I have no idea how people build their ships so terribly and wonder how other so so much better.

The right tool for the right job would be a fantastic model for wanna be gamers.

We aren't at a point where we can use do a sledge hammer to a nail for nws. And pvp will rarely become this.

That's the problem with pugging nws and pvp, too many people don't know how to build their ship
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

The problem is also that those who know how to build and equip their ships properly do not share the information with anyone even in their own fleet.

Problem is that the people who know how to build and want to share their knowledge (better team; faster, blablabla) hit a wall because people want to keep their own shinies and/or are just plain reluctant to adjust their build or playstyle.

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.
