    New icons are horrible.
    They look really cartoony (like from a comic book) and do NOT blend well with the other icons that represent engines, sheilds, weapons etc.

    For example all other icons have a black background.

    I like the idea to try to clean up consoles - (eg all the sci consoles never changed after the revamp - for example photonic becoming part. gen and still looking like a holodeck). But homogenizing the tac consoles (energy weapons/torps) was wrong as the icons telling you the type is just too small even when viewed on a 32 inch TV screen. Implementation is a fail.

    Obviously the art department dont fix bugs, but time could have been spend on making zones like the academies suitable for jetpacks or making new maps for new missions.. who knows...

    The icons were a problem and should never have been changed.

    that was the whole point. :cool: these are tac/sci/ and eng consoles and are colored accordingly to differentiate.

    I like the designs they are going for, they actually look like pieces of equipment than random bits of plastic you'd find in a Kinder Egg. Especially the science ones.

    But I agree that they should have more variation in the design. The tac consoles are exactly the same in shape and design, they just swapped some colours around and changed the beam/torp icon on the face of it.

    So yeah, I like the new designs. I hate that they cut corners.

    It wasn't "cutting corners" in any way.

    Eh, we'll get used to it. I like the new science consoles. The tac and armor consoles are now/still far too similar.

    The point of icons is to represent different ideas simply and easily.

    If you're going to make them all the same with subtle differences in colour and shading, what's the point?

    I wasn't a fan of the old ones either, but at least I was able to tell the difference between a Phaser Relay and a Phase Modulator. Now I can't, especially if I was colour blind.

    This is a lesson cryptic really needs to learn.

    If they employed more people on the bug fixing side and a little less on the artistic side.......I think this would be a much better game.

    I picked up a rare warhead yield chamber mk X that lists 17.5% torpedo damage buff twice. Can anyone verify if this is another tool-tip issue or were generics buffed?

    They are not duplicated on the dedicated consoles I have equipped.

    Edit: Directed Energy Manifolds and Prefire Chambers do not appear to have duplicated tool tips either.

    I've got several items that list their percentages/pluses more than once...
    (both Space and Ground ones)

    I've just assumed that they are all tool-tip goofs.

    I don't think some of you really realise how much work Thomas put into these icons, and how things work with bug fixing, and also how lazy you all are in having to learn the new icons.

    I think they're a massive improvement.

    As it is now I don't have a clue what's what without squinting and mousing over the icons.. I'm hoping it's just an adjustment phase and that I will eventually be able to recognise a console on sight. :o

    honestly i have no idea what anything is anymore without mousing over stuff, the backgrounds themselves make it rather hard at a glance to tell there rarity with the colored backgrounds

    I think they're a massive improvement.

    Try differentiating the icons with only 70% good vision in both eyes.

    These new console icons literally look all the same to me. It looks like a Cryptic "Artist" held their 3 year old a bunch of crayons and then scanned the image in.

    The alloy, armor, and hull plating are all so similar, I really don't see how much work went into that one. Looks like a cut and paste job with a few minor changes. Honestly my 7 year old son could of photoshopped a better icon for these.

    The others I can live with, but those are terrible. If he did put a lot of work into them it was time wasted. I don't think there is 1 post on this forum asking for the old icons to be changed.

    Weapon 'coils' - space blunderbusses
    rcs - solar panels
    armor - circuit boards?
    alloys - space onions
    torp consoles - look like a space minigun held in an fps view
    particle - hey, they look like a proper component!
    flow caps - technologically advanced radiator valve caps
    eps - badly plumbed in water softener unit thats made the water a rusty red

    you got a point on what 1 individual on this whole post can like lol ? but ... to pay the designers money and time to waste that other employees that fix stuff instead is a waste of time and money and stuff is still broken in gameplay !! what isn't important and should be left alone is things that look better and is not broke !! leave it all on the back burner for some rainy day is dumb and put this gross graphics that waste time money and players enjoyments being online playing trek vs 1 lil player that likes foo foo colors, Obviously designers dont fix problems THATS why the Problems are Still Here lol and ugly colors as well

    I guess I'll be in the minority and say I actually like the new icons. Sure I'll have to memorize what the new icons represent (oh noes), but visually I think they're a step up from what we had before.

    Soon they will redesign any remaining 'old' icons to visually match the "new & improved" bunch , and after their super duper "new player" demographic will point to a severe lack of understanding the console art , they will turn about and redesign it all over again ... .

    I want to ask one simple question.

    What in the name of all that is sane was the graphic designer thinking? Had it ever crossed his mind that there might be partially sighted players, like me, playing this game?

    Obviously not.

    Now all of the tac consoles looks literally the same.

    Thanks for making STO more unfriendly to partially sighted players than it already is.

    They might look pretty in a cartoon kind of way, but I don't like them, I prefer the old icons, they look more futuristic and much clearer in which is which.

    Now I have to hover my mouse over them just to see what they are, i can't really tell which one is which especially if they are all purple. Horrible really, especially if you farm Consoles.
    Now found frequenting MWO short term and then Star Citizen long term. Raged Quit PVP long ago

    I will add my voice here. i don't mind that they were updated. However, I DO NOT LIKE the new designs. they are very hard to tell one item from each other at a glance . too many candy colors. the images are too "mushy" i have no idea what many of them are trying to be. Everything looks very "kiddie" now.
