Far as I know, ideas so far over the recent years have been:

Animated Series in Late 25th Century
    Enterprise Season 5
    Abram TOS TV Show

And for us we got STO on TV, which CBS might be interested in, if Defiant and the Defiant MMO does well.

Personally, the best case would be an Enterprise Season 5. Because if CBS wanted STO to pull a Defiant, I don't think the Devs could keep up with the TV show. :P

Well, a continuation of Enterprise can be done with a new cast and a new ship. It doesn't have to be Archer and crew...

Indeed, there likely would be a new crew.

You got the Enterprise supposed to be undergoing the refit, and tensions growing with the Romulans, the Enterprise crew's experience would've been valuable on other ships. Maybe they would end up commanding their own? Archer became a diplomat and helped found the UFP. So that would likely mean an entirely new cast, and Archer taking on the role of Admiral Forrest.

And if the story is done right, the action might be enough to pull in the youth. Which is what CBS really wants.

The problem with Trek is that the fan-base is fragmented. Even on this forum there are fans who hate DS9, or Voyager, or Enterprise - not to mention the JJ-verse. Two Trek fans will never agree on anything Trek-related any more, and that's why no series will do well. The fans are too hypercritical and only care about the Trek-type that is their most favorite.

That fragmentation comes from the fact that Star Trek leaves much interpretation, so everyone can see something different in it.
It's hard to even hard to reduce it to a common denominator, even if it's the peaceful exporation aspect, because some hate it and would like Star Trek to become more like Star Trek: the 10000 year Galactic War, lol.

I think rather than to hate each other, ST fans should focus on what unites them.
But i think someone with the wisdom of Surak is needed to find out what this little thing might be that truely unites them. :D

Just look at STO, even a group of people (cryptic) who have archieved to get the license to make a Star Trek game, have radical different opinion about Star Trek than most of the fans.
    (not counting the MMO people)
Althrough they should have made their game much more moderate and way less extreme war driven.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--" - (TNG) Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie

Maybe the NX-02 or something? It'd be a pretty easy way to make a whole new ship. Same era, but maybe with a few new bits of tech that the NX-01 didn't have? After all Archer's ship was made using the bits of crud the Vulcans felt like sharing. A ship made using more Vulcan tech would be far superior. Maybe a few bits of tech from other races? Oh, and Shran. :D

Yeah JJ Trek would make a great TOS series! It would be so much fun, even with lens flare!
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

    Wouldn't be "Enterprise" with the NX-02. :P

Though if they can't pull off "Episode 5", and can start off a new series where Enterprise left off, I could see a new ship. Maybe with a familiar name like Reliant. ;)

And I could see Shran as a Starfleet Captain during the E-R War. But Enterprise canon says he disappears in 2156 and doesn't reappear til 2161. So he would have to be seen as an underground character, we know who he is, but the cast wouldn't know who he is.
