I started playing this game in February 2012. Since then a lot has changed. On the forums, the general behaviour towards devs is negative. Lets see what they did the past 20 months or so.
GOOD THINGS
- Fleet Starbase System
- Fleet Embassy
- Fleet Dilithium Mine
- Made MACO and Omega set realistic for everybody to aqcuire.
- Omega Reputation System
- New Romulus Reputation System
- Nukara Reputation System
- Free Breen Chel Grett Cruiser
- Free Support Cruiser Retrofit
- Free Risian Corvette
- First Contact Day, including a rerun
- Reruns of Featured Episodes
- Romulan Playable Faction
- Improving KDF playable faction
- Ever-increasing endgame content
- Free Item give away
BAD THINGS
- Making Dilithium needed for too much stuff
- Nerfing Tour the Universe
- Reputation system requires too much of a grind to unlock access to the higher items
- Focussing too much on Escorts and Carriers
- Making LoR Tribble Test Reward available for everybody
- Still a lot of bugs and lags in the game
There are also things that have mixed feelings, such as the changes to dilithium in foundry missions. These are therefore not included in the list.
In total the list of GOOD THINGS has 10 more items than the list of BAD THINGS. Therefore I say: Thank you Cryptic. The team of Developers is doing a good job with this game. I feel confident that the list of bad things will decrease in the future.
People: don't make this thread into a complain, please only comment if you are happy with the devs. There are too many other threads in which you can complain.
And to defend for example reputation system: nobody is forcing you to do every bit of content, and it is not needed. Exchange gear can be as good as rep gear, as long as you know how to use it.
I do agree that overall the good definitely outweighs the drawbacks. It's a good game that I enjoy playing.
Please keep in mind that your list is a little subjective. I could easily change things to make it look different such as mentioning all rep systems as one point. Or put the tribble on the positive side (for me personally). On the negative side on the other hand you forgot bad communication and lack of customer service. On top of that it misses some weighing. The tribble for example is a minor thing while the bugs are a major issue.
- Made MACO and Omega set realistic for everybody to aqcuire.
- Adding more Fleet Events
- Free Breen Chel Grett Cruiser
- Free Support Cruiser Retrofit
- Free Risian Corvette
- First Contact Day, including a rerun
- Reruns of Featured Episodes
- Romulan Playable Faction
- Improving KDF playable faction
- Ever-increasing endgame content
- Free Item give away
- KDF leveling from 1-50
BAD THINGS
- Nerfing Tour the Universe
- Reputation system requires too much of a grind to unlock access to the higher items
- Focussing too much on Escorts and Carriers
- Making LoR Tribble Test Reward available for everybody
- Still a lot of bugs and lags in the game since Launch
- Fleet System, embassy system, mining to much of a grind.
- Tribble testing bugs reported before LOR went live not fixed
- No reward for beta testers of LOR
Due to the fleet and rep grind I have adjusted what I believe is the good and bad things with the game.

The new traits might be helping Sci and Eng. Maybe not as much as APA/APO (I am guessing from forum banter) since trait bonuses are additive, not multiplicative. But I don't have a Tac so I can't be sure. I just feel inferior yet improved. Like Nog.
Oddly I was intending on creating a thank you thread of my own today but found yours.
Poor guys at Cryptic put thousands of man-hours into an addition to the game and hop on the forums to get some feedback and find hundreds of posts of people nit-picking and whining about every little thing. Must be very discouraging.
The huge threads about the grind recently is particularly annoying to me since there isn't a game on the planet...none....that doesn't run out of content. If it wasn't for the grind there would be nothing to do.
Thank you Cryptic for providing me with an amazing amount of entertainment over the past couple years.
These nit-pickers might be able to find a wife that doesn't have any bugs, lags, or make you do too much work...but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Agree with the dilithium nearly everything takes it these days.
Grind up to tier 5 gonna get some nice rep gear but wait its 32k dilithium per piece finally get the fleet shield production plant well its gonna be 32k dilithium per shield.
On the forums, the general behaviour towards devs is negative.
That's just human nature.
People who are offered the chance to complain, will complain, those who are happy will just be silent and enjoy.

So it's 3-4 days with half an hour of ingame time on those best-in-slot items. Better not ask players of any other mmo out there how much time, $$$ and especially skill it cost to procure theirs...
- Making LoR Tribble Test Reward available for everybody
because logging in for an hour on tribble and going afk was so hard before...
Hey OP,
You forgot stealthily nerfing the mail system,
...Which ate everyones attachments for a few weeks, and they still can't fix the problem with disappearing items returned from the exchange, or vanishing payments for sold items.
Requiring an additional piece of bloatware to be installed when the game installs.
'accidentially' lost a mission (salvage dispute) by breaking the datachip drops in the daily mission
Somehow broke the uniform slots
inability to log-on, rubberbanding and drops have hit an all-time high
This is just in the last 3 months.

To each its own...and this is your view only. I would like to add the following:
NOT SO GOOD:
- Fleet Starbase System (So much grinding)
- Fleet Embassy (Did I say So much grinding)
- Fleet Dilithium Mine (another grinding)
- Made MACO and Omega set. UN-realistic to acquire. It wasn't broken why fix it (ooh yeah thanks to the whiners and complainers). Not even account wide and so much harder to level per account. The old way I got all sets for 8 different toons. Now cannot even keep up with a single rep.
- Omega Reputation System (same as above)
- New Romulus Reputation System (who likes grinding...probably a TRIBBLE)
- Nukara Reputation System (still SOOOO much grinding...it hurts)
-Nerf ALL SCI abilities on YR1. Yes for those who weren't around much. SCI used to rule till it became ESCORTS online prior to going F2P.
-Nerf "Breaking the planet" some used to run this "solo"..now its virtually a forgotten place.
-Deleted Starbase 24 GROUND....fun mission to get some great goodies...Its now just a memory.
-Deleted Fleet Action DS9- Great ground PVE...was supposed to have been fixed but now its been deleted completely.
-Deleted Terraform- Another being so called "worked on" going the DODOO bird way
-Nerf Foundry for so called EC exploits....
-Nerf Foundry for so called Fleet mark exploits
-Nerf Foundry for so called DIL exploits
-Nerf Foundry for timeframe for so called exploit (now required 15 mins at least to give rewards)
-Nerf Cryogun for PvPs
-Nerf Static gun for PvPs
-Nerf Nukara mines
-Nerf party ball from Risa event (MOST Ridiculous nerf)
-Nerf KDF slaver pets
Shall I go on...don't even have started with the list of real fixes for STO.
Plus what you mentioned:
- Making Dilithium needed for too much stuff
- Nerfing Tour the Universe
- Reputation system requires too much of a grind to unlock access to the higher items
- Focussing too much on Escorts and Carriers
- Making LoR Tribble Test Reward available for everybody
Not a complaint but a response to the number of issues ongoing with STO for 3 yrs. Still hoping they really think about the base players before this entire game becomes a deserted empty place. I think they had the latest numbers that cause alarm of the exodus of people leaving STO and they were so scare they decided to run the free stuff week...perhaps a bit too late....I hope not and their addiction to money could still be cured if they rectify their ugly ways :D:D

There were already so many dilithium sinks ingame did we really need another they could have made it EC or maybe marks that you get from grinding rep imagine that.
I do have to say I am impressed with all the strides-changes STO has made this year. As a player since beta and a LTS, I played heavily for about a year, took a 6 month lull from the game... then came back and have never looked back. Having played SW:TOR, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, and a host of other MMO's... STO calls me back every time without disappointment. Having seen the changes and improvements that have been made since release... the game has growth substantial. Kudos Devs!
On a different note, does anyone know any stats on active players of STO? Would be curious to know active player comparisons next to SW:TOR. I find it interesting that Bioware invested millions in that game and it tanked within 6 months. I think the consensus was SW:TOR was going to be the WoW killer.
The game has good things but also bad. Everyone has their opinion on if the good outweighs the bad.
Some of the bad is really bad like bugs that have been around for a long time. It should not take years to fix some bugs that I have heard people talk about.
When LoR went live their was a ton of bugs some that had been game breaking prevent people from even playing missions using the Queues. Weeks went by before the problem was fixed. Their are still a number of bugs that had been introduced when LoR went live that are still causing annoyances. How long until they are all fixed? I do not know but I am guessing it will take a long time.
Making a change in the mail system that a lot of people hate but to make it worse the mail system was bugged after the change with people losing stuff. From what I hear their are still people that are effected by bugged mail. They need to better test any and all changes before implementing it into the game that effects everyone.
Also not enough new endgame content. Yes their was new content but the Romulan and Nakura stuff only is played by people to get to tier 5 and for any gear from the rep. Once they have what they want from it the only end game content still played a lot of Borg STF missions because they are a good for getting a lot of Dilithium. Their needs to be more end game content that awards Dilithium and marks.
Erm, don't get me wrong, I do think the game is fun and they did a pretty good job with the addon, but.. just comparing the number of good and bad points is pretty naive and doesn't say anything.
Let's just assume there was only one negative point, and that point was something like "crashes every 5-10mins due to unknown reasons" or "runs at avg 5 fps even on low settings and high end PCs".
That would out-weight everything on the positive side.
Since there actually are quite a few bugs and performance/server issues left, I wouldn't give them an uncontested thumbs up.

you forget the orion slaver nerf under bad things.
plus the "- Made MACO and Omega set realistic for everybody to aqcuire." is misplaced.. it should be under bad things.
all it did was make something you could have easily gotten for free really really really expensive and very time consuming..
my first few chars i got the xi KHG space and ground set in one weekend.. try to do that now.

I have the wish to contribute something into this discussion, even thou i feel that i am not in the possition to do so.
I have played this game for a year or so some time ago, after it went FTP. I had ****loads of fun with it- bad stuff, like server downs - were outrun easily by the amount of joy it brought me when online. I was tiered of the game after some time. GW 2 came out and consumed most of my time. Manly because i played (and play) it only with real time friends. Any game is cool with good friends. But not the point.
So, i recently returned to ST:O to give it a shot. Within the year or so since i last realy played there is SO MUCH NEW STUFF added to the game! I can`t say anything about the quality of it since i havn`t played enoth to realy have a valid oppinion on that. But for the quantity: you just have to give some thumbs up to the devs.
And, as a result of that i`ll do it like i did it when playing last time: if i have enough fun with it i'll for sure spend some real money, just to give them a reward. That is the beauty of the FTP Modell: you only pay if you think it`s worth doing so. Of cause, there are numerus "tricks" to make you pay more and more, but it is still up to you if you fall for them.
P.S.: Sry for the awfull splelling- thou i speak english in an aceptable manner my spelling it just bad.
REALLY? Are you complaining about the FREE C-Store giveaway this week too?
Not really. I just happened to move around my real life for LoR testing weekend. A little appreciation would have felt better than: and now, for everybody! Just a feeling of being special.

Too broad, specifically,Making Dilithium needed for the Dilithium Mine
Disagree, this is balanced by making it available to everyone, as you noted in your Good things.
REALLY? Are you complaining about the FREE C-Store giveaway this week too?
During my tour here, what I really disliked was the stealth mail nerf.
