Undine Faction?

similonsimilon Member Posts: 0 Arc User
So, firstly: Yes, an Undine faction is a ridiculous and unfeasible concept.
I do not expect it to ever happen, nor do I believe it could be done well.

That aside, I had an... interesting idea!
Following a conversation with one of my siblings about Undine ships, and how a regular folk couldn't use one (since they're kinda linked to an individual captain). We realised this could be problematic but it does allow for something I've always wanted from any game.
Something you can become attached to!
You know, like the SCAR you carry all the way through Crysis, or that pretty marine you intentionally don't run over in Halo. A nice object you grow very fond of.

His idea was You have a ship. And It grows as you level. +5% with each level up. And as the more astute among you will have just thought, This baby gets big.
You start off with a nice little 100m long ship. Barely a third of the length of a miranda. To match that takes you until level 22.
Now, by level 35 you're twice the length of a Miranda and by Level 50 you're over a kilometer long.
Which, to be fair isn't as big as it sounds - The Sovereign is a respectable 790m and the Scimitar is just under 900.

This would kinda limit everyone to colossal juggernauts, which aren't quite the traditional Undine Image.

The obvious solution would be to "grow" it in player specified ways, or just have traditional ship systems. But that's no fun!

I would be much more comfortable with playable Undine than playable Borg.

Cryptic has stated they don't want to do an "evil" Faction. Thus we have New Roms rather then Tal Roms as a Faction. So based on that I don't see Undine coming any time soon - but Cryptic's plans 2 years from now could be quite different then they are now. :)

As far as the ship idea, what Cryptic really wants is for people to spend Zen and buy new ships. They don't want to give you a ship that just grows with you. They want you to spend that $25.00 at end-game to get the T5.5 bestest ship.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Undine ships and faction might not be possible. After all, how can Cryptic sell Undine costume items when they don't wear clothes and they all look the same and C-Store Undine ships would be limited since the Undine seem to focus on only one style of ship.

However, an organic ship that the Captain forms with an attachment with would be interesting. Especially, if it grows every level or a specific period of time for people that bought it at level 50. There are some organic ships in Star Trek like Tin Man.

They're not evil! They just want to cleanse all species if impurity. Which just happens to include being another species... They're doing us all a favour ;)

That's one of the main things I was referring to in my first paragraph - But I'm sure they could find some way to bleed you dry anyway. :P

They've mentioned playable Liberated Borg...not playable Borg.
