Xpadder question

Hello all,
I am completely new to the game and I know that there are some out there who use the xpadder and the xbox controller. I guess I would need help with a good layout. I know using a controller is not optimal for MMO's but the space combat feels very "wonky" to me using mouse and keyboard.
Can anyone help?
