Hey all
I'm playing as a Romulan and I'm on the "Frozen"/"The Chase" mission. I can't seem, for the life of me, to defeat the one Romulan ship I'm facing. I've tried using walk throughs and looking through these forums to see if anyone has any tips for defeating it, but I've come up empty.
I just spent like a bajillion Energy Credits buying a new sheild, new weapons and everything for my ship (It's a D'deridex Warbird Battle Cruiser) and I'm a Commander (level 33) so my level is appropriate for the mission...but EVERY time I try to go after it, its life remains 100% while it quickly sends 3 torpedoes at me and boom! I'm dead.
I've been trying to defeat this thing and get to the next part of the mission for TWO DAYS now! I'm really irritated by the fact that I have no idea how to kill it. Not since "The Last Stand" have I been so frustrated by this game.
I'm having so much fun with STO but times like this make me wanna ram my head through the wall :c Any help?
First, heavy plasma torpedoes travel slowly, distance is your friend when you know an enemy might fire one at you. Since Beam arrays don't lose damage over distance, standing off at longer ranges gives you time to target a plasma torpedo and neutralize it.
Second, the Tactical Boff ability Fire at Will, will fire your beams randomly at all targets in range. Especially useful when an enemy fires multiple torpedoes at you.
A question though, what exactly is your weapon loadout? Does it complement the almost complete lack of maneuverability of the D'deridex?
Yes, knowing your layout would help a bit. Although I would like to add that your Bridge Officers can help too. The one's you have at your ships stations specifically; the one's that give you abilities to put in your hotbar. Not to mention that any you have for your Duty Officer Roster - Space can help here too. Not only can they give you abilities but they also have traits which can help too. Try cloaking well before an attack and then move in, uncloak and immediately attack. You should see a difference in the damage Here's one trait I'm talking about: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Trait/boff
If you scroll down a bit to "List of traits" and under the heading "Space" you'll see the traits I'm talking about. Specifically Subterfuge. I maybe a bit wrong but that trait on that BOff will give you a bonus to attacking when coming out of cloak for a short period of time. So if you're coming out of that neb without a cloak, then your missing out on a bonus to attack or damage.
As for the DutyOfficers look here: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Category:Duty_officer_specializations
Scroll down and check out: "Specialization: Projectile Weapons Officer"
If you've put one of these DOff's in your active space duty roster then you'll be able to reduce the time that it takes to fire torpedoes... Which translates directly to DPS. IE: For a given amount of time - with this ability you can fire more torps than you can without one of these DOff's.
Couple quick checks. Is it he kills you too fast or is he not taking damage at all? If it is the latter then you need to drop the mission and retake it to clear the issue.
If you just need a way to kill him faster. The moment he appears, cloak. Run out past the 10km range and line up an attack run with overloaded torp and weapons. Decloak around 4km range and let him eat a hammer. After that hope you have fire at will or spread torps. That shuts down his torps and gives you room to keep pounding.
