you need 4 other players in your group (and instance) and then go talk to the fleet guy. All the founding players have to have played for 20hrs to qualify as founders, I believe.

FYI, it's not worth starting a fleet if you just plan to do a solo-fleet. You'll never be able to level it up yourself, just too much resources needed. Even small fleets of 5-10 people are complaining about how much is needed for projects.

the other 4 toons can't be in a fleet. You have to be teamed with them. The "fleet guy" is on ESD/Qonos around where you train your bridge officers.

Not sure but i think there is a fleet guy on romulan command as well.

To start a fleet you need to gather 4 players with over 20 hours of playtime and head to the Fleet npc next to Sickbay on Earth Spacedock for Federation fleets. I don't want to deter you from your dream, but as a leader myself, I feel you should be warned about what lies ahead, because founding is easy, building is hard.

To find 4 players you usually announce on zone chat that you're paying to found (players will pay no attention if you don't pay), after which they will usually leave. Alternate methods of finding your founders is to start a thread in the forum recruiting section and specify what you're looking for. That is what I did, which is why it took over 2 weeks to found the fleet after which I'm named, but all founders are still with me.

As for the building part, you need to ask yourself how much available resources you have because it literally drain your bank, and you will need to find reliable support from at least 20 regular players if you want to advance into higher tiers. Harder than building, recruiting is what's going to be the hardest thing you'll have to do on the game. There are thousands of fleets starved for members here, and meet players who don't care for your fleet because you're just t-1 and they want all the perks already. There are more fleets on the game currently than the player base can handle to build. You'll need to grow a thick skin, because majority of players do not want to be invited for a fleet. A fleet leader is becoming a dirty word to players because of the effort leaders put in to try to get members. That lack of support causes member and leader burn-out and fleets usually get abandoned at t2/t-3 unless they're able to spend real money to offset the lack of interest.

May this information help you make the right decisions. Enjoy the game! :)

at this point in time, unless you want the "free" storage having your own fleet gives you, it would be better to find an established fleet..

if you are on KDF you are welcome to come join my fleet. we are just over 10 days from t5 shipyard.
just pm me and we can talk.

I can't argue with any of that. He's right.

Don't start a fleet just to start one. You need a vision, a theme, and a goal and more importantly you will need a core set of friends that share your interest in all three.

You also need to be friendly and outgoing and dedicated and patient and have some extra characteristic that will allow you to attract players to you. That could be charisma, the ability to give away loot, being a really good player who can teach others, your own podcast, etc. Direct recruiting does not work very well... it will most likely get you put on ignore.

You CAN do it alone. You wouldn't be the first. But if you do, prepare to have a hard time getting anywhere with it. That's why you need a vision... otherwise you're going to get discouraged.

    Several things.....

Since you didn't mention your motivation for creating a fleet I find that troublesome.
It is true you will need a strong desire to accomplish this goal.

Also 2 months is not very much time to familiarize yourself with the game. I played for 2 years before I created a fleet.

Finally, since you have trouble figuring out even how it is done I think is the nail in the coffin.

However, I can tell you it can be done successfully even though most people will discourage you out of hand, and you should be discouraged, because it's not easy.

Try to find a fleet that is looking for admibs, take over some of the minor responsibilities to gain their trust. eventually you may get into the inner circles with almost all priviliges a fleet has to offer.

That way you learn the ropes and who knows, you may inherit the leadership some day, if you do a good Job.

    To start a fleet:
A team of five people without a fleet in the Same instance
At least twenty ours played on all chars
Founder must have either have at last one zen, be a gold member or have bought zen in past.

Building is harder. I created my current fleet about six weeks ago. I did this with an inname friend. Had I done it alone, we would not be finishing tier two starbase, tier one embassy and halfway to tier two mine.

Getting members is even harder. Keep in mind that each player is different and will focus on different things in this game. Soms will five themselves to the fleet, whether its recruiting, communitybuilding or grinding resourses.

Although fleet leasing can be extremely tough, it also gives great joy to ssee everything going good or beter as expected.

Wow way to discourage someone. Does a fleet have to be only about advancing up the tiers. Shouldn't it also be a place to find people you like to game with? Or a place for friends who already know one another to game together?

It's just maintaining a realistic perspective. If you start a fleet, this is what you're in store for. I started a KDF fleet with a couple of friends and I have no illusions as to what progress would entail.

If he has friends to team up with, progressing will be easier. Fortunately I've got a few long-time friends who are interested in playing STO, and a couple other prospects. But he may not have that. In which case, he might be suited towards joining another small fleet rather than soloing it.

I totally get why people want to start their own fleet. They should just be made aware of what starbase progression is like and thus make an informed choice.
